In episode 42 of the Biz Alchemy podcast, Jacquelyn explores the different terminology used in business and how the language creates an even stronger yang energy in your business energy body. She discusses the importance of incorporating more yin energy in your business to bring a balance with the yang, and gives examples of some alternative terms that will bring a stronger receptive energy to your business. An energy much more aligned with female business owners.

With the equinox just a little more than a week away,

The spring equinox for me and for some of you it'll be the autumn or the fall equinox.

We are moving into a time of balance.

The equinox is about the balance of light and dark and it is a beautiful time to revisit that balance within ourselves and in the case of what my podcast is all about within our business.

Now I'm sure you have picked up in my previous episodes about how I identify that the yang energy of business is much stronger,

You know,

It's much more present than the yin energy when it comes to business.

But like everything in life it is about balance,

It is about harmony and part of the reason that we as women can struggle in business is because of the predominantly yang energy of business which ties in with what has been a patriarchal model.

But we as women in particular really need the balance of yang and yin in our lives and yet we've grown up in a society that is very much about the yang.

It's very much about what the output if you like,

The action and it honors that much more than the going in,

Than the stillness,

Than the receptivity.

So coming up to the equinox this is a perfect time to explore this.

Now you might be saying Jacqueline I have no idea what you're talking about,

What do you mean by yin and yang.

That's the term I use for what you might say is the masculine and the feminine and the reason I much prefer the use of yin and yang is it takes the gender out because they're not gender principles,

They're energetic principles,

They're a part of a cycle.

But we are just so used to living lives of yang energy that we're a little afraid of the yin or we don't even know what the yin looks like.

So I'm actually going to have a little bit of fun with you in today's episode talking about the yang language of business and I'm just going to throw some terms out there but it's about just getting you to think,

To think about the language you use as I'm sure you're aware language is really powerful.

Each word has an energy,

Every single word you use has a vibration to it and when we're in business and even if we're aware of oh my gosh I want to bring more yin energy into my business,

I want to bring balance to the yang that is so present in the business environment,

Well language can be a great way to start.

In episode seven I did talk about harmonizing the yin and yang in your business and I gave some examples there but today I really will focus in on the language and something I talked about in that episode and I've probably mentioned since is one of the changes I made that really shifted my energy was calling my sales page a sales page.

That is such a yang energy.

I mean just listen to it.

How does that make you feel when you hear sales page?

Do you feel a little manipulated?

It feels like here I am herding you into this place to read this page to convince you to sell to you.

It's a really icky energy and yet are you using that energy?

I have switched that around because sales it is a very outward pushing energy and I call mine an invitation page and if you can just feel the difference with that,

It's receptive.

Yes,

It's sharing information but just by the nature of its name,

It's receptive.

It's inviting you in rather than coercing you in.

So simple things like that.

Likewise,

I would never ever say I'm having a sales conversation with someone.

For me,

I'm having a conversation to connect because as you've heard me say throughout this podcast,

The way that we truly attract in clients is through connection.

It's about our relationship with our clients.

Now I'm not saying the terminology is wrong but what I invite you to do is to be aware of how you feel when you're using this terminology because it can be just used without us tuning into our body and feeling the effect of the language.

So if you are calling them sales calls,

You are setting up sales pages,

How does that feel for you?

Can you find your own term for that?

And so I don't want to say,

Oh,

I call it an invitation page.

This is what you should call it.

Not at all.

Not at all.

Okay,

Your unique business,

You do it your way,

You find what works for you and maybe sales page does great but have some awareness around the terms that you're using.

So here's another one,

Launch.

I'm doing a launch for this product.

I'm doing a launch for this program.

Can you feel the energy of that?

I mean,

Launch,

You think of a rocket,

Don't you?

It's just vroom.

It just puts energy straight out and it's a very strong energy.

And if you're at the other side of that launch and you've got this energy coming towards you,

It doesn't really invite you in,

Does it?

It almost like pushes you away a little bit more.

So even that,

Is there something else you can call it if it doesn't feel aligned for you?

I will often refer to it simply as my opening period or my invitation period.

I have always struggled with the term launch even before I looked at it this way in terms of the yang and the yin.

And even if you do use launch,

You know,

I'm having a launch but then some of the other terminology you may change a little bit to bring some more yin energy in.

Another term that's very yang for me is the funnel.

You're having a funnel,

A business funnel to funnel those clients in.

Oh,

I do struggle with that one.

How does that make you feel?

Like even using that just makes me go,

Oh my gosh,

I would prefer to be taking my clients on a journey.

Okay,

So they might come in at one point in the journey and then I'm taking them on a journey through,

You know,

Maybe two more intimate work with me or whatever it is that my journey looks like,

But I certainly do not funnel clients in.

And another term that sort of links a bit with that is upselling.

And I actually just looked up the definition of upselling and it said a sales technique used to get a customer to spend more by buying an upgraded or premium version.

So even just listen to that terminology to get a customer to spend more.

I mean,

Really what you're doing is you're inviting them to go further into their journey,

You know,

To get a customer to spend more.

It's like,

Really?

And okay,

That might be too more appropriate in a business of product,

But regardless,

That term is still used.

So if you're using that term,

Just be sure that you're aligned with the energy.

Another phrase that's similar is converting,

Converting them into clients,

Converting them from a lead,

There's another one,

Into a client,

You know,

Or into a paying client,

Like that conversion.

Again,

It has a manipulative energy to it.

You know,

Conversion is often connected with religion and in which case it's like someone coming in and saying,

I have a better way,

My way is the right way,

I'm going to change your way of thinking to my way.

You know,

That's what conversion is.

So using conversion in a business sense,

Just be mindful of the energy behind that,

That energy of manipulation and coercion that goes with that word.

And as I just hinted at there,

Another one is leads.

You know,

How many leads you have.

They're not leads,

They're people.

I mean,

Oh my gosh,

I just really shudder with that term,

Or even lead magnet or lead generation.

It's just horrible.

It completely depersonalizes the process and a bit like conversion,

There's a sort of a manipulative energy.

It sounds like it's all about numbers and that another podcast in itself about quality over quantity.

But again,

You might like using those terms and that is fine.

Just be aware they've got a very yang energy.

It is an energy that pushes out rather than an energy that invites in,

Which is the yin aspect of business.

Another term that you'll hear used is hook.

I thought,

Oh,

I'll look up the definition of that in marketing.

Makes an audience receptive to your message,

Gets your foot in the door,

Makes an audience receptive to your message.

Again,

There's an energy of coercion there,

Of manipulation of the way NLP can be used in its negative state.

You know,

You can feel that,

Can't you?

Like hooking someone in.

It is so the opposite of everything I talk about here,

Of attracting in clients,

Of you being energetically aligned so you attract in rather than pushing out to hook in.

Oh,

One more I wanted to just mention is also traffic,

Driving traffic to your website.

What the?

Really think about that.

Doesn't it really just give you the creeps?

Like your whole body,

My whole body goes into a retraction just hearing these words.

So think about how your potential clients are feeling if this language is ever used in your business.

Because even if you don't use it to them,

If you're using it in your business,

The language is sitting in your business and it does not invite in.

So these are simple tweaks that you can make just to help bring a Yin energy into your business.

Because as I said,

Yin is about receptivity.

It's about stillness.

It's a going in.

Now,

Just because you go in does not mean that energy isn't attracted into you.

In fact,

Often it's more powerfully attracted when you go in into the Yin space or your business goes into a Yin space rather than being in a Yang space where it's pushing out.

Because it's much harder to receive when you're in continuous pushing out,

Continuous giving.

Now,

One last term because it comes up in conversations with my ladies in Bizalchemy playground,

With my clients,

It comes up all the time.

And that's the word business.

Now,

Obviously,

Business is a Yang word.

I mean,

Busy,

The fact it has busy in it and busy is a very mental energy,

A mental state.

It's a very active Yang energy.

And how many times we've had this discussion in the playground about what else to call it.

And there's been some beautiful names suggested.

And some of the ladies use those names.

And then recently,

We've been talking more about the fact that really it's not so much a business as maybe being your path of service or however else you want to look at it,

However else you want to refer to it.

I have not yet found a term other than business that works for me.

I would love if you've got a term,

Please let me know.

I would love to know.

But I think again,

This is a very personal thing.

You call it whatever you like.

I use the term business because it's widely understood by my audience.

Whereas if I would start to use another term,

I would be constantly clarifying.

So,

At the moment,

It helps unite everyone in some ways in understanding what I'm talking about.

But again,

Think about it for you.

What term would you like to use if you're uncomfortable with business,

If you don't like the Yangness of business?

So,

This is such a minuscule part of bringing harmony to the Yang and the Yin of your business.

But it's a really obvious part.

And starting to make changes like this automatically recalibrates that beautiful balance between Yin and Yang.

It really starts the process happening.

So,

I hope this has got you thinking about the language of business and what you can do to bring more Yin to balance the language of your business.

Until next time,

Have an alchemical week in your biz.

Love it! & makes so much sense... I never felt aligned with the whole 'business-y' side of things & felt repelled by it, yet hadn't yet found a way to integrate the money-making side of Life with what I wanted to offer to the world... This makes perfect sense to me & Beautifully brings the 2 together ~ Thank You! At long last, a way to do 'business' that makes sense 🙏🌺🌿✨

I loved this episode! There are other dehumanizing words and expressions that make me cringe, such as ‘Human Resources’ and ‘headcount’... yikes! They say much about how workers are treated.
