Ogun ye! In this meditation, we go into the forest to find Ogun's treasure. In the Yoruba Ifa-Orisa spiritual tradition, Ogun is the great hunter warrior who works ceaselessly like the heart. He challenges us to move toward our goals with strength and integrity. He along with Esu, Osoosi, and Osun (not to be confused with the river deity) make up the “warriors,” those energies meant to protect us as we walk the path.

We're going to begin by taking nine deep cleansing breaths.

In through our nose.

And out through our mouth.

As we take these breaths,

We're going to allow all imagery to fade from our minds.

To become paler and paler.

Fainter and fainter.

Until we are left with a brilliant white in our mind's eye.

As we continue to breathe deeply,

Holding this field of white in our mind's eye.

A spot of green appears in the middle of our white field.

This deep,

Rich green begins to spread and spread.

Growing wider and wider until it has completely engulfed the white.

And we are now holding a field of deep,

Rich green in our mind's eye.

As we continue to breathe,

Holding this deep green in our mind's eye.

A scene begins to emerge.

We are standing in the midst of tall grass,

Taller than you.

You are completely surrounded by this tall grass and unable to see any direction in which to move.

After a moment of standing in this spot,

You take your hands and part the tall grass and begin to move forward in whatever direction feels right.

You continue to walk forward,

Parting this grass with your hands as you walk.

Parting the grass,

Parting the grass,

Parting the grass.

As you glance back,

You notice that the grass that you pushed out of the way has re-closed behind you,

Such that you're always surrounded.

But you feel no fear.

You feel no hesitation.

You just continue to move in your chosen direction,

Parting the grass with your hands as you go.

Parting it,

Moving forward,

Parting the grass,

Moving forward.

You begin to move a little more quickly and with a little bit more confidence,

Faster and faster forward.

Parting the grass,

Parting the grass and moving ever forward,

Ever faster.

You've almost broken into a run and as you part the grass for one final time,

A clearing opens up.

You're now looking up at the beautiful night sky.

Stars are glistening and you're in a large clearing of rich black soil.

You choose a spot and kneel down and with your hands,

You begin to dig into this rich,

Dark soil.

You dig and you dig.

You feel the softness of the soil.

You smell the richness of the earth as you continue to dig deeper and deeper,

Deeper and deeper still until finally you feel something.

You reach down and you pull out this item.

What is it?

Take a moment to regard it and to look at it fully.

After a few moments,

You stand up with this item and you carry it with you to the edge of the clearing where the grass begins.

But this time you don't have to part the grass with your hands at all.

As you step forward,

The grass opens to allow your passage.

And with every step you take in whatever direction you take it,

The grass opens to allow you to pass through.

You continue to walk with your item.

You walk,

Glancing up at the sky ever so often.

And finally,

As you continue to walk through this grass with your item,

The scene begins to fade.

It becomes paler and paler,

Lighter and lighter,

Until you are left with a field of brilliant white in your mind's eye.

Hold that white in your mind's eye as you take nine more deep cleansing breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.

.

.

When you're ready,

Open your eyes and take a few moments to journal about the images you saw during this meditation.

Though I’ve never encountered that kind of landscape in my waking life, the imagery (along with the strength of your voice) felt strangely powerful and resonant. Thank you!

An intriguing—and fairly brief—exercise. Totally accessible but I would recommend having at least a basic familiarity with visualization first. Suitable for repeat listening with potentially different “results” each time.

Interesting. Different. And absolutely beautiful!! Surprised by my object, a flat piece of wood carved around the edges, so smooth I couldn’t resist touching it. I saw and felt it all. I was there. Thank you Iya!! 💕

Excelent exercise! My clearing was an old dormant volcano crater and the soil was warm. My item was an old animal bone which I needed to play my drum.

Thank you!! That was very interesting. On the left of my dark fertile soil was a beautiful river with mountains in the background and on the right was a beautiful brown and green forest with tall trees. I pulled out 3 large gems from the soil - one white/clear, one whitish with beautiful pink on the end, and one clear with lots of deep purple. When walking back, I never pulled a baby out of the soil, but I was carrying the gems in my left arm and a baby with my right arm. What does it mean? Was beautiful.

All that tall grass. I became a large snake, pushing through. Fairly often I am a snake, but sometimes I am the grass.
