On this journey, we’re going to Obatala's Mountain. In the Yoruba Ifa-Orisa tradition, Obatala is the orisa who was commissioned by Olodumare to craft the first human beings and who continues to craft them in the womb. Obatala challenges us to be patient, and to always consider the bigger picture and scope of things.

We're going to begin by taking eight deep cleansing breaths in through our nose and out through our mouth.

As we take these breaths,

We're going to allow all imagery to fade out of our mind's eye.

To become paler and paler,

Fainter and fainter,

Until we're left with a brilliant white in our mind's eye.

Let us hold this white for just a few moments as we continue to breathe deeply,

In through our nose and out through our mouth.

As we continue to breathe,

A scene begins to emerge in our mind's eye.

You are standing in the valley of a tall hill.

Take a moment to allow the hill to rise.

How tall is it?

Is there grass or is it dirt only?

Are there flowers?

Are there animals?

Take note of everything that you see around you as you continue to breathe deeply.

After a few moments of surveying your surroundings,

You begin to walk up the hill,

Slowly,

Deliberately,

One step at a time,

One foot in front of the other,

Walking,

Climbing,

Walking,

Climbing.

As you move higher,

Take a moment to look back and survey the land from the height you've now reached.

Make note of the surroundings.

What do you see from your new vantage point?

What do you see from the sky?

After a few moments,

You continue to climb,

Walking up one foot in front of the other,

Walking,

Climbing.

It's getting a bit difficult,

But you continue.

You feel your body growing tired,

But you continue.

One foot in front of the other,

Walking and climbing.

And finally,

Just when you feel your body can't take another step,

You make the final step onto the top of the hill.

Stand and look around.

What can you see now?

How does the valley look from the top of the hill?

You remove your shoes and allow yourself a few moments to feel your feet on the earth.

You then lay down on top of the hill,

On your back,

Looking up at the sky.

Take note of the sky.

Is it blue?

Are there clouds?

How does it look to you?

As you watch the sky and feel your body supported by the earth,

The scene begins to fade.

It becomes fainter and fainter,

Paler and paler,

Until you're left with a brilliant white once again in your mind's eye.

Hold this white in your mind's eye as you take eight more deep cleansing breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.

As you catch your breath in and out through your gaze,

You will crystals and chalalahne You When you're ready,

Open your eyes and take a few moments to journal about the images you saw during this meditation.
