Mettā is a Pali word which in Sanskrit is Maitrī, meaning active good will towards all. It is one of the four states of mind called the “Brahma-viharas” or “four divine states of dwelling” also known as the four immeasurables, four infinite minds, or heart practices. Metta is a practice of inclining our minds and hearts towards unconditional friendliness and love. "Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone. It has to be made like bread; remade all the time, made new." ~ Ursula Le Guin
