In this meditation we are going to be focusing on the five senses.
What you can hear,
What you can taste,
What you can touch,
What you can see and what you can smell.
Mindfulness meditations are powerful because they allow us to be present.
The present moment is the only place that anxiety and stress doesn't exist.
When we generate anxiety within us it's because we are thinking about future outcomes.
What if this happens?
What if that happens?
And when we are anxious and we can't quite figure out why,
Usually it's because in the background we have a little voice which is thinking about what can go wrong,
Why we're not good enough to do something.
It's always about thinking of the future.
So when we focus on our five senses it brings us into the present moment because our five senses only exist in the present moment.
What you can smell right now,
Focus on that for a moment.
Is there any aromas that you can pick up on?
Can you smell yourself maybe?
Can you smell something in the room,
Something in the air?
Just focus on that for a moment.
What can you taste?
Maybe you can taste what you've just eaten or eaten an hour ago.
Maybe you can taste around the edges of your gums.
Maybe you can taste what's on the edge of your lips.
Just focus solely on that.
Put your focus 100% into what you can taste right now.
Now take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.
What can you feel right now?
Where are you sitting?
Notice if there's any aches,
Any tensions in your body.
Notice if you're feeling very comfortable.
If you do notice any aches or tensions in the body right now then I want you to focus on that area and relax it.
Because I find that when I focus on a pain that's in my body I'm able to be less tense in that area.
I'm able to relax the surrounding muscles a bit more because often unconsciously we tense those areas usually through stress.
So allow yourself to feel free and nimble for a moment.
Now what can you hear?
Is there anything that's making noise in your environment?
Maybe a fridge?
Maybe you can hear something going on outside your window or whatever is in your immediate environment just try and pick up on the sounds even the smallest ones.
Now it's time to focus on our final sense.
What can you see around you in your environment?
Just appreciate everything that's around you.
The colours,
The textures,
The differences in shapes.
Just 100% solely focus on this for a while.
Thank you for being here today.
By shifting our focus then we tend to release ourselves from the burden of the mind.
The mind although a powerful tool can actually work as a hindrance when we overuse it,
When we overthink.
So it's important to just focus outside of the mind from time to time and just concentrate on our immediate environment.
That way we can be more present and we can appreciate everything that's around us.
Thank you for being here.
