Welcome to my meditation for chronic illness.
Begin by finding a comfortable position.
Sit or lay down in a way that feels supportive and gentle to your body.
Feel free to take any position that is fine with you.
Allow your eyes to close gently.
Take a moment to feel the support beneath you.
Sense the earth holding you.
The stability beneath your body.
Now bring your attention to your breath.
The air flowing in and out of your nostrils.
Breathing in,
The air is cool.
Breathing out,
The air is warmed up.
Slowly guide your attention through your body.
As you move from your toes to the crown of your head,
Acknowledge any areas of discomfort or pain.
As you notice these sensations,
Offer them a gentle,
Compassionate awareness.
There is no need to change anything.
Simply observe with kindness.
Recognize that living with chronic illness can bring a range of emotions.
Frustration.
Sadness.
Anger or fear.
Fear of the future.
How do I manage all of that?
Why me?
As these feelings arise,
Allow them to be there.
Observe them with a gentle curiosity.
Not as enemies but as part of your human and life experience.
With each inhale,
Imagine drawing in compassion and warmth.
Breathe in kindness for yourself.
For your body with all its complexities.
Let this compassion fill every cell of your being.
As you exhale,
Imagine letting go of any tension,
Worry or resistance.
With each out breath,
Release any tightness,
Allowing a sense of ease to permeate your body.
Now go with your thoughts to your heart.
Your heart is a steady presence.
Remind yourself of your basic goodness,
Your worthiness,
Despite any limitations your illness and pain may bring.
You are more than your illness.
You are a vast loving presence.
Imagine your awareness expanding outward.
Connecting you with others who are also experiencing challenges.
Feel a sense of belonging to a larger home.
A community of shared human experience.
You are not alone in this.
Offer the following affirmations to yourself.
May I be at ease.
I do my best and my best is good enough.
I go my own pace and I do what is good for me.
I am not defined by my pain.
My pain does not define me.
I am strong,
Capable and confident.
My inner peace is more powerful than my pain.
I choose what is good for me.
Extend these wishes to all beings knowing that you're not alone in your journey.
As this meditation comes to a close,
Take a few more deep breaths.
Bring some movement back to your body.
Wiggle your toes,
Your hands if you want to.
When you feel ready,
Slowly open your eyes.
Returning to your surroundings with a sense of peace and compassion for yourself and your journey.
I wish you all the very best.
Thanks for your time.
