Source Awareness Meditation - The Unfettered Lake
by Bobby Cobb
All Source Awareness meditations are designed to give you the embodied knowing, "We are Spirit, having a human experience". Meditators and Spiritual Seekers love the quote we are not human beings that have an occasional spiritual experience rather Spiritual Beings having a human experience. However, an intellectual understanding of these concepts only gets you so far. Through these guided meditations One can developed an embodied understanding {a gnosis} of this understanding. The realization is subtle, and in this case, subtle is all it takes. Experience the small hinge has it swings the big door!

Welcome to this Source Awareness Meditation Journey.
I'm Bobby Cobb and I will be your guide.
Before we begin,
Find a comfortable place that you can relax and get even more comfortable.
As this program progresses,
You can be seated in a comfortable chair,
Seated on the ground,
Or lying down.
Whatever your intuition is telling you in this moment will allow you to relax and release into this powerful and profound journey.
Once you're in that position,
Allow your attention and awareness to center in completely and solely on your breath.
Eyes can be opened slightly,
Gazing into a fire,
Or closed completely,
If that's more comfortable.
As we take conscious control of our breath,
Of all of our bodily functions,
The breath is the most effortless to turn completely over to autopilot or to take conscious control of,
As we will be doing in the beginning of this program.
Allow your breath to deepen and slow.
Let each exhalation be a little heavier than the last.
Let your body sink into the support beneath you,
Releasing any tension that you may find.
That's right.
Easily and effortlessly breathing out tension,
Stress,
And strain from your day,
Your week,
Your month,
To just effortlessly fall away.
As you begin to notice a warm sense surrounding you,
Suffusing you,
Melting away stress and worry.
With each inhalation,
Realize that you're breathing in light,
Love,
Oxygen.
With each exhalation,
Simply relax into the idea of releasing and relaxing,
Going deeper,
Knowing that the deeper you go,
The more relaxed you become,
And the more relaxed you become,
The deeper,
Deeper down you continue to go.
With each inhalation,
You bring in chi,
Prana,
Shakti,
Christ consciousness.
And with each exhalation,
You release stress,
Strain,
Impurities.
And tonight,
We will be releasing some of the conditioning that no longer serves us.
Breathing in light and love.
Breathing out,
Worn out mental models that no longer serve you.
Breathing in prana.
Breathing out,
Mental static.
Breathing in shakti.
Breathing out,
Debilitating thought loops.
As you follow your breath,
Just see each exhalation as a release of that which no longer serves you.
As you are born again,
Into each inhalation,
Bringing in purity,
Bringing in unconditioned love.
Breathing out,
Worn out ideas that are no longer serving you.
In this evolution of your realization that we are spirit,
Having a human experience.
Breathing in,
Seeing the mirage.
Breathing out,
Ideas,
Assumptions,
Beliefs that are foundation on the mirage.
What is the mirage,
You ask?
The mirage is the perceived reality of the perceived human experience.
The sun rising in the east is a mirage,
For the sun neither rises nor sets.
The sun has no beginning and no end.
However,
In the mirage it looks like the sun sets each day.
In the mirage,
The earth does indeed look flat.
Stand on the beach,
Look at the sea,
And you will see.
Those that thought Columbus might sail off the edge of the earth were making a well-founded assumption based on the mirage.
Time,
Too,
Is an illusion.
For example,
How long have we been together in this process?
Five minutes?
Ten minutes?
Fifteen?
Do you really know?
Do you really care?
As we go deeper and deeper,
You can just set the intention that the illusion of time,
The mirage of time,
Is something that we need not take on this journey.
For this journey that we are embarking on together is one that occurs outside of time.
It occurs beyond words.
As we continue journey together,
I want you to relax into that center of being,
The authentic you that was never born and will never die.
The part of you that does and will transcend the body,
The mind,
And the story of you.
That's right.
You can let all of that go for now.
For the journey on which we embark is one.
There is no need to pack everything that you need on this journey.
Your imagination,
Your intuition,
Your well-being,
Your resiliency are all part of the original equipment installed at the factory by the manufacturer.
Part of the original equipment.
And now just relax into the understanding that the idea that you would have to build those up or find those that you could lose them,
That you could ever be separated from that which is your essential self,
That too is a mirage.
For in this space that we are entering now already,
We're already making our way there.
And each time that you make your way there,
The path becomes a bit easier,
A bit more familiar,
And a bit more effortless.
As we journey into that space that we alternatively call awareness,
Or consciousness,
Or pure being,
Or infinite mind,
Or Christ consciousness,
Or Buddha nature,
All of those are synonyms for this space that we can call true self.
In this space,
There are no boundaries.
There are no limitations.
As we relax into infinite mind,
Into source,
You will notice that the limitations of the body and the mind are quickly and easily transcended,
Still with us,
Still a part of who we are,
As is that character that we play each and every day,
All of the roles that we gleefully adopt in the human experience.
You might already be imagining,
At least on some level,
What it will be like to fulfill those roles of a being,
A human being,
Or as a husband,
Or a wife,
Or a lover,
A mother,
Or a father,
A son,
Or a daughter,
A brother,
Or a sister,
A boss,
Or an employee.
Think how much easier and more effortless it will be to relax into any of these roles,
Knowing that you can ground back into this place of pure awareness,
Not accidentally,
Not occasionally,
Not haphazardly,
Not when one of the few moments that we still can become awe-inspired from.
Birth of a child,
An animal in nature,
A beautiful sunset,
Connecting deeply with a loved one,
Looking across the table at a beloved.
In the mirage,
Those experiences seem unique and rare,
But as we go down deeper,
Become more relaxed,
Release ourself from the fetters and the encumbrances that bind us into this illusion,
You may begin to notice those awe-inspiring moments becoming more common,
More frequent,
More ordinary.
For on one level,
The simple beauty of watching a bird land on a branch,
Or a flower bloom,
Or snow falling,
Or the sun rising,
Each and every one of those experiences is as miraculous as every other experience.
And as we begin our journey into the source space,
In whatever of the 10,
000 words it is known by,
That space is known by all,
Visited by all.
For many,
Those occurrences are haphazard and accidental.
For us,
As a being that has realized our true essential self,
This is a place that we can,
And should,
Return to,
Anytime we are guided by source,
That which we might call intuition,
Or inner GPS,
Or inner guru,
Intuition,
Aha moments.
I invite you to notice that awareness is calling you back into this space,
All day,
Every day,
Gently,
Persistently,
And lovingly,
Inviting you back into this pool of tranquility,
Where the heart is strong and powerful,
Yet simultaneously still and at rest,
Where the mind is clear.
Into this place where the inner critic cannot travel,
Mind becomes quiet,
Thoughts arise and fade away,
Mere occurrences inside our atmosphere,
Clouds appearing inside of awareness.
Now,
In a moment,
I'm going to invite you into a comfortable seat in this center of authenticity,
This place of pure being,
This space inside of which all things occur,
This space through which all things are known,
And this space of which all things are made.
The nature of the mirage is being revealed to you right now.
This mirage is not the mirage that you've been taught of.
This mirage is not the one that you see thirsty crawling across the desert,
When off in the distance,
You see a pool of water with which you intend to quench your thirst,
And you know that that mirage is real.
It appears to be water,
But the essence of a mirage is not sand and water.
The essence of the mirage is heat and light,
Energy.
The essence of the mirage is energy.
And as we continue this journey,
The nature of the mirage that is the human experience will be revealed to you totally and completely.
Now,
In the space of being,
In this perceived place that you're located right now,
Whether that's a specific image that Source has offered up for you to inhabit,
Or whether or not Source has invited you into a space non-local with no apparent firm matter in your awareness at this point in time,
Know that you are in the exact right place for you to be on this journey in this moment beyond time.
As we prepare for the next phase of our journey,
A journey we'll be taking by riding our breath.
And as we ride our breath down to the deepest states of pure being,
Beyond all illusions,
Beyond thought,
Beyond words,
Into our true energetic essence,
That energy that we call love or awareness or Christ consciousness,
I would like you to practice a simple breath.
So simple it is known as one,
Two,
Three breath.
The one is the inhalation.
So as you breathe in,
Count.
Count the number of beats on your inhalation,
Whatever that is for you.
The first couple of breaths,
It may be five,
Six,
Or seven seconds or beats or counts for that breath.
Whatever that number is,
Five,
Six,
Seven,
Four,
Eight,
It doesn't matter.
We'll turn that into our one.
And then at the top of the breath,
With our lungs full,
We will double that count.
So if the inhalation was five beats,
We'll hold for 10.
And after we have held for 10,
We will release slowly out of our mouth for three times the original count.
We can practice at once to make it clearer.
So wherever you are in your breathing right now,
Exhale all of the air out of your lungs and just pause for a moment so that we may begin together.
And for the purposes of this,
We'll use four as our inhalation count.
Four will be our one.
Eight will be our two.
Twelve will be our three.
And as you exhale for three times the count of your inhalation,
Hum or sigh or ah,
Or tone slightly,
Just enough to stimulate your vagal nerve,
Which runs right through your voice box.
And we can stimulate that nerve,
Sending messenger molecules to our brain and instructing it to release a dose of relaxation.
As we relax,
We release certain neurotransmitters into our bloodstream and the neurotransmitters of peace and happiness and bliss are easily accessible to us anytime that we desire on purpose and by design,
Always in the exact right dose.
And in this case,
Dose is an acronym for dopamine,
Oxytocin,
Serotonin,
And endorphins.
A wonderful drug trip,
Psychedelic in nature,
That you can release anytime you need,
Want,
Or desire on purpose and by design through accessing our one,
Two,
Three breath.
So again,
Wherever you are on the completion of your next exhalation,
Just pause for a moment so that we can begin together and begin inhaling for a four count one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Four,
And hold,
Hold for an eight count one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six,
Seven,
Eight,
And exhale to a 12 count 12,
11,
10,
Nine,
Eight,
Seven,
Six,
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Inhale again.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Hold.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six,
Seven,
Eight.
Exhale for a 12 count 12,
11,
10,
Nine,
Eight,
Seven,
Six,
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
And on that exhalation,
Exhale through your mouth,
Inhale through your nose,
Hold it in your lungs.
And on the exhalation,
Remember just a light tone,
Whatever you're inspired to do.
And if you find yourself stressing or straining,
Allow that to be a signal from source to shorten your inhalation.
Or if you notice that you could go deeper,
Recognize that as an invitation source to do exactly that.
And just remember the one,
Two,
Three pattern.
If you breathe in for six,
You'll hold for 12 and exhale for 18.
Slow and steady,
Stimulating that vagal nerve,
Nerve,
Tapping into that dose of pure tranquility,
Allowing yourself to go deeper and become more and more relaxed,
Less and less encumbered,
Less and less constrained,
Less and less imprisoned by a cage of our own making.
Tonight,
We release all of that over the course of the next 10 rounds of our breath.
I'll keep track of the rounds for you.
You merely need to focus attention on your breath and open your heart and your mind to receive the guidance that I am offering from source.
Think of me as the hole in the flute that the breath of consciousness flows through.
Open your heart to this music.
I will count down the levels from 10 to 1.
And as you descend into deeper and deeper levels of being,
At each level,
Relax a little bit more,
Release a little bit more,
And realizing that through each step of the way,
You're releasing some of the fetters,
Some of the encumbrances,
Some of the ingrained habit patterns that hold you back,
That lock you into the illusion of the mirage.
And as you continue into this process,
You will feel a sense of relief and liberation.
Let's begin.
The first level is called the haven of rest.
Begin your breath now and notice a gentle wave washing over you with each inhalation and with each breath hold.
Feel the hold carrying relaxation deeper into your body.
Notice your muscles soften,
Tension draining away like sand through your fingertips.
And with each exhalation,
Release a burden,
A worry,
A thought that no longer needs to hold you.
This is the first step.
We are entering the threshold of inner peace.
And as we go down to the first level,
Release the fetter of self-identification.
Realize here that you are not a fixed or separate entity,
But rather a dynamic interdependent process.
You are not defined by your name,
Your body,
Your personality,
Your thoughts.
Those are things you have.
Who you are is that and so much more.
Begin to focus now on the wholeness of your being.
Recognize that this is whole and you are whole.
And thereby coming to the realization that this is all you.
And as you realize this,
Feel a wave of compassion and connection wash over you as you let go of the illusion of self.
The next level is nine.
And as we step down into this level,
Notice how the mind craves.
The mind reaches for things like a thirsty tongue seeking water.
Now picture a lotus flower blooming before you,
Its petals radiant white.
Gently place each desire,
Each longing like a dew drop falling onto the lotus.
Watch them float away,
Carried by the breeze of your calm breath.
The ninth level is letting go of attachments.
The first fetter has been loosened.
And as you descend down to the next deeper level,
Release the fetter of doubt.
Notice that you can trust your own wisdom as you have been doing through this process.
Let intuition be your guide.
Have confidence in the path that you are following.
Even though the next bend is unknown,
Do not let uncertainty or confusion cloud your mind or prevent you from taking action.
If confusion arises,
Let that be a cause for a pause to come back to this space where you can have a knowing beyond faith in yourself,
In yourself,
In your connection to source,
In your connection to infinite mind.
And as this fetter is released,
You can feel a surge of clarity and courage as you let go of the hesitation of doubt.
And as you release down into the next level,
The eighth level,
As you do release the feather of attachment to rites and rituals,
Understand that you are the source of happiness and liberation.
Anytime that you imagine that you are separate from your true authentic self,
That can merely be a signal that the trickster of the mirage is back to their old tricks,
Seducing you back into the illusion,
Back into the human experience,
Back to lose yourself once again,
If you should so desire,
Or you might see it as an invitation to continue on from this perspective into those daily roles.
And as you recognize that nothing is missing,
You can greet the awareness that there is no need for any external or formal practice.
You're free to do those as you are inspired to do them,
But you no longer rely on any superstition.
Any dogma,
Any doctrine,
No need to follow rules or regulations blindly.
For at our essence,
We are flexible,
Adaptable,
And use our own experience and reason to guide us.
Feel a burst of creativity and freedom as we let go of the rigidity of rites and rituals,
Dogma and doctrine.
In the next level,
We are alighting from ill will,
Releasing ill will.
Feel as your breath slows,
Feel any anger,
Any resentment simmering within you to begin to cool.
Imagine a warm fire,
Crackling but not burning.
Its heat is a comfortable presence.
From here,
We can drop any grudge,
Any bitterness into the flames,
Watching them turn to wisps of smoke dissolving effortlessly into the night sky.
This eighth level is the level on which we shed hatred,
And the next fetter is unchanged.
And as we continue our one,
Two,
Three breath,
We relax into the next level,
And we release the lock,
The habit of sensual desire.
For we need not be driven by cravings for pleasure or aversion to pain.
For we are not attached to any form,
To any sound,
Smell,
Taste,
Or touch.
We are content and grateful for what we have,
And we know we need not seek more than the wholeness of what we are.
We are mindful and aware of our senses,
And we use them wisely and skillfully.
With them,
We feel a stream of joy and satisfaction as we let go of the greed of sensual desire.
And in this state of of slumbering awakeness,
Our thoughts that were once restless,
Swarming,
Begin to settle.
Picture them as leaves rustling in the wind,
And then releasing the grip of fall,
Slowly descending to the ground as they land on a bed of soft moss,
Visible through the moonlight.
Their hushed movement is serene.
A wave of calm and tranquility ensconces us as we release the next fetter,
And as we continue deeper and deeper still on the next level,
We can release the habit of laziness and sloth.
For we are not weighed down by laziness,
Dullness,
Or boredom of mind.
We are not distracted,
Nor procrastinating,
Nor wasting any of the moments that we perceive as time.
We are energetic and alert.
Our mind is clear and sharp.
We are focused awareness,
Focused attention,
Focused intention.
And as we follow the path laid out for us by source,
We can feel a spark of enthusiasm and motivation as we let go of lethargy,
Of laziness,
And of sloth.
And we find that each individual activity can and should be its own reward.
And as you continue following the breath,
Following the guidance,
We go to the next level.
Breathe in light and love on this level.
And as you hold your breath,
Feel the need for rigid opinions,
Opinions,
Views that you're stuck to,
To simply dissolve.
Feel the rigidity starting to soften.
Soft edges become smooth.
See them like clouds in the sky,
Constantly shifting,
Morphing,
Never fixed.
As your perspective loosens,
Notice awareness is expanding.
You embrace the vastness of pure possibility,
Letting go of the rigidity.
The next fetter dissolves.
Deeper still,
As we go down more,
Release the habit of restlessness and worry.
For we are not ever agitated or anxious.
We are never restless or worried.
We have no need to travel through the illusion of time into the past or out into the present.
For we are firmly ensconced at the seat of a center of our authentic self,
Resting effortlessly in the seat of the divine I am in the eternal now.
Now,
Who you are is never anxious,
Never agitated.
Who you are is never troubled by regret or guilt or fear,
Never pulled by anticipation.
Who you are is calm and serene,
Naturally stable,
Effortlessly balanced.
We are present and mindful,
Mindful,
Living in a place called here.
But we can see now that this is a place without a center,
Stretching on into infinity,
No edges in space,
And rewest in the eternal now,
Fully present and mindful.
And as that realization comes to the forefront,
We can feel a breeze of tranquility and equanimity as we let go of the turbulence of restlessness and worry.
In this space,
We can embrace change.
For we can see these appearances for what they are,
Ephemeral appearances happening inside of us,
Not defining who we are any more than the last meal defined who we are.
The present moment is a dance of light and shadow,
Ever-changing,
Ever-new.
Breathe in this flux and let it permeate your being as we untie ourself from the next feather,
Fully accepting the impermanence of the objects that arise inside of us.
And with our next series of breaths,
Let us explore the craving of existence,
Which creates the fear of death.
And as we release that,
We come to the realization that we are not our thoughts.
We are not our body.
We are not our breath.
Rather,
We are the vast ocean of consciousness,
Limitless,
Infinite,
Limitless,
Eternal.
Feel this vastness within you,
Notice the expansiveness of the space holding all experiences,
Transcending attachment on every level.
And through the next series of breaths,
We will release the habit of ego.
Ego,
That container in which we hold thoughts and ideas and conditioning,
Automatic processes,
Limiting beliefs.
Ego,
Too,
Arises within us,
Essential only in this game of life that we play every time we enter back into the human experience.
For it is the container that holds the character inside of which we play this eternal game of hide and seek,
Pulling a veil over our true essential self like clouds on a winter's day,
Hiding the sun from our ability to perceive it in the illusion,
But forever inviting us back in to this space beyond judgment,
Beyond attachment to any identity or role,
Beyond praise or blame,
Beyond the need to be humble or confident.
From this place,
You now have an accurate view of yourself.
And as you relax into this awareness,
You'll feel a glow of gratitude and humility,
A sense of awe in it all.
And with our next breath,
We are ready to release the binding of the final fetter,
And that is the fetter of ignorance.
Ignorance,
The knowledge that we once held on to so tightly,
Now appears as scattered stars in the cosmic void as we embrace the mystery,
The unknown,
And the unknowing.
As we stand on the precipice of the field of all possibilities,
Opening our heart,
Opening our mind into the essence of pure potential that lies beyond ideas of right doing and wrong doing.
And as we release the fetter of ignorance,
The fetter of the known,
We awaken to true wisdom of source as we release the habit of ignorance.
For you are neither ignorant,
No,
Or unaware,
No longer deluded or confused by the mirage.
You're not bound or blinded by any mirage,
Any illusion,
Any distortion,
Or by any attachment or any aversion.
You are wise.
We are awake awareness,
Have achieved a state of union with source.
We realize that we are inseparable from source with the freedom to enjoy the human experience,
That thing we call life,
The game of life,
The ancients called lila,
Or divine play.
Today,
We have the ability to make our way through the perceived reality unencumbered by any of the limiting beliefs,
Debilitating thought loops,
Worn out mental models,
Conditioned boxes that have held us prisoner for too long.
And as we realize that those encumbrances are leaving us now for the final time,
For we have the ability to cross back in between these two worlds through a portal called the gateless gate on a journey with no destination following the non-path right here.
For even as you are lost completely in the illusion,
If wisdom were to tap you on the shoulder and suggests that you step into yourself,
You realize what a fool's errand that would be.
Would be for there simply is nowhere to go,
Nothing to achieve to arrive back here on purpose and by design.
So in a moment,
I'm going to invite you back into the divine play of life.
We call Lila and then invite you to return no more quickly than you can reenter your body,
Reenter your room,
Reenter your mind with the wisdom that you cannot be separate from this space.
So when you're ready,
Take in a nice deep breath,
Breath appreciating the beauty of the majestic miracle that is our true authentic self.
Breathing in again,
Realizing that we can return here anytime that we want or need to.
Breathing in again,
Knowing our thoughts and feelings will never again perform the illusion of making us think that it's telling us about our circumstances,
Rather an invitation to return here.
And on your next deep breath,
Allow your eyes to open as you come back into the room.
