Please join me for this social connection meditation using a fire visualization. Learning to be connected and grateful for the many gifts that we give and receive from others can expand our influence of compassion. We are often taught to be fiercely independent and sometimes it is better to draw on the strength of those around us.

Welcome to this connection meditation.

As always,

We're going to begin with settling into the breath,

Closing your eyes and either sitting comfortably or if you choose,

You can also lay down.

And take a nice big deep breath in and hold it and then let it go.

And then breathing in again,

Holding and letting go.

And breathing in again and holding and letting go.

Just starting to feel the body relax and settle into this space.

As you feel the breath flow in and out of your body.

And start to imagine those tree roots coming down through the soles of the feet into the earth.

Just grounding us for the time that we'll be in this meditation.

And start to breathe back up those tree roots,

Pulling the breath up the body and then releasing it back down again.

And on the next inhale,

Pull the breath even further up the body and release it back down into the earth.

Perhaps even pulling the breath up as far as the heart space this time and releasing back down.

Pulling it up again perhaps to the top of the head and releasing it back down.

Starting to feel safe and settled in your body.

Relaxing the shoulders and the hands and the feet.

The jaw,

The temples.

Just feeling the beautiful flow of that breath come in your body and out of your body.

And I want you to imagine that you're planning on settling into a space where you're going to be meeting many beautiful friends.

And we're going to be meeting these friends around a campfire.

So as you start to walk along the pathway to the fire,

You can hear the crackling.

You can smell the smoke.

And you walk along a pathway into a clearing that has a beautiful big fire in the middle.

You realize you're the first person to arrive.

So you settle yourself down in front of the fire,

Feeling the warmth on your face.

Hearing the crackle of the fire.

And feeling soothed by just staring into the beautiful orange flickering flame.

And then to the left of you,

I want you to choose a dear friend to come and sit with you.

And this friend settles in in the space beside you around the fire.

And there are no words needed.

You feel accepted and loved by this person.

So comfortable sitting here in front of the fire.

And you offer to this friend something you'd like to give them.

Maybe unconditional love,

Perhaps a characteristic of something they're wishing for.

And you hand that to them as a gift.

And you feel their gratitude in return as they then hand you a gift,

A characteristic or quality that you admire in them.

And they gift it to you and light up in you the area that you need from them.

You feel the beautiful exchange of love and gratitude.

And then another loved one or friend joins the fire.

Picture them sitting there.

And again,

You gift them something that they may need in their life.

And you feel the gratitude flowing back to you as they then also give you a gift in return.

And you feel the flow of love and compassion,

Gratitude and understanding flowing between you.

And yet another beautiful friend or loved one joins our fire.

And again,

You offer a gift to them.

You feel the love and gratitude flow into your heart having received this gift.

You offer a gift in return.

And there's one more space around the fire.

Choose one more person you'd like to invite into the circle.

Picture them in your mind's eye and have them come in.

And you offer them again,

A gift that they may need in the world.

And they offer you a gift,

A characteristic,

A strength.

And you feel that flow into your heart.

And you feel the beautiful gratitude that is flowing around the circle as we sit around the fire.

And everyone organically starts to throw anything into the fire that they may need transmuted or taken away at this time.

Maybe some small reprieve from suffering of whatever sort.

And you feel that fire grow bigger and dance higher as we release and throw into the fire but no longer serves us.

And as you feel the connection of everyone who's throwing their own personal things into the fire that they no longer need.

We also decide to throw into the fire anything from the collective that we no longer need.

Anything from your family that you feel you'd like to leave behind.

Just throw it into the fire now.

And anything from your town or city or community.

Go ahead and throw that into the fire as well.

And expanding out to your country.

Is there anything that your country has been holding that you're ready to throw into the flames?

Go ahead and throw that in now.

And expanding your heart even further thinking about your continent and the world and the planet.

Is there anything on this larger scale you'd like to release?

Releasing the suffering of the plants and the animals.

Relieving the suffering of war.

Relieving the suffering of pain and hunger.

And then imagine not even needing to know what it is but just throwing in anything else that is no longer serving us.

And in one last whoosh of flame the fire begins to die down.

And slowly pop and crackle as you look into the tiny last little flickering flame dancing on the log amongst the ashes.

Feeling a beautiful sense of connection to the people around the fire as well as the entire planet.

And we just intuitively know that it is time to go as the flames die down and only ash remains.

So we get up from the fire.

Like everyone who has come to help in connection around the fire.

Knowing we can come back to this space whenever we need.

And begin to walk back down the pathway that leads back to the room that we're lying or sitting in.

Just becoming aware of our breath and our body in this space once again.

Imagine that breath come up the body in the inhale and release back down on the exhale.

Coming up the body and releasing back down once more.

And if you'd like to drift into a beautiful peaceful sleep then I will leave you here.

And if not then you may want to start to wiggle your toes and fingers.

You rolling your shoulders.

Taking some nice big deep breaths coming back into your body.

Starting to flutter your eyes open once again.

Coming back into this space.

And I thank you so much for joining me on this connection meditation.
