Please join me for this grounding body connection meditation using a tree visualization. Learning to be connected and grounded in our bodies is integral to feeling peaceful and calm in our everyday lives. We often do not get taught how to be grounded and our culture encourages busyness which fosters a sense of being ungrounded. When we have trauma in our lives one of our protective coping strategies can be to live more in the head. This meditation will help you to get back into your body.

If you're ready,

I invite you to just close your eyes and start to settle into your breath.

You can choose to either sit in your chair with your back straight and your feet on the floor.

Or you can also lay down.

And if you lay down,

You may fall asleep.

And if you fall asleep,

Just forgive yourself for that.

That's okay.

So starting to breathe in,

We're going to take a nice big deep breath in and hold it for the count of two.

And then exhale.

Getting in,

Holding for the count of two,

And then exhaling.

And one more breath like that.

Take a nice big deep breath in,

Hold it,

And then exhale.

Now coming into a nice easy settled breath,

I want you to start to pay attention to the soles of your feet.

And imagining the breath just coming in through the soles of the feet,

Breathing it in,

Up into the body,

And exhaling.

Breathing the breath up,

Up through the soles of the feet,

Up through the legs,

And letting it go.

Breathing in,

Pulling the breath all the way up to the abdomen,

And then releasing the breath down the legs and out the feet.

Now breathing your breath up to your heart space,

Expanding that heart space,

Feeling it grow bigger and bigger,

And then exhaling down the body.

And then on the next breath,

Bringing it in,

Bringing your breath up to the top of your head,

And letting it back fall back back down the body.

Breathing in through the whole body,

And out.

And you start to imagine that you're walking barefoot through a field of beautiful wild flowers.

And the temperature is just perfect,

Just like breeze,

Birds are singing.

And there's a beautiful oak tree up ahead in the distance.

You start to walk through the wild flowers,

Brushing your hand over the top of them as you start to approach the tree.

You reach out your hands to feel the bark,

Feeling the texture,

Hearing the rustle of the wind and the leaves.

And then you sit down at the base of the tree,

Feeling the strength and beauty of the tree holding your back as you look out on that field of wild flowers,

Feeling the sun on your face.

And start to embody the immensity of this beautiful big tree,

Feeling the roots holding you to the ground.

And feeling the leaves and the branches reaching you high,

High up.

And starting to breathe with the tree,

Breathing up the roots,

The trunk,

Into the branches,

Into the leaves.

And breathing back down the length of the tree,

Back down into the roots.

Feeling yourself dissolving into one of the tree,

Breathing up the roots,

To the very top,

Back down again.

Feeling your body anchor,

Feeling your relaxation.

And breathing any nourishment you need from the tree,

Breathing it up through your body.

And then releasing on the expo,

Inhale anything you don't need back through the roots of the tree.

Inhaling joy and abundance and contentment,

Releasing worry and anger and resentment.

Breathing in beauty and inspiration and joy.

Breathing out anxiety and overwhelm and frustration.

And now using your own words,

Breathing in something you'd like to invite into your life.

And exhaling something you want to release.

Exhaling the invitation,

Exhaling the release.

Starting to feel one of the tree,

Just breathing with the tree in your own time.

And the inhaling and the exhalation.

And starting to come back to the sound of my voice,

Taking a nice big deep breath in,

Letting it go.

You feel gratitude in your heart for the time that you've spent in this beautiful place.

Start to stand up from the base of the tree,

Soaking in any last minute moments of beauty you'd like from this place.

And you start to walk back through the meadow,

Back through the wildflowers.

Starting to become aware of your body again,

Taking a nice big deep breath in,

Fill the lungs.

Becoming aware again of your body and room,

Maybe wiggling your fingers and toes,

Maybe shrugging your shoulders or rolling your neck.

And slowly start to blink open your eyes,

Maybe taking a nice stretch.

I welcome you back to this space.
