This is your reminder that motivation doesn't just happen.
Remembering why you started and taking action will be what gets you to your goals.
I'm here today to help you to tap into that deeper purpose and inspire you to take steps towards your goals today.
But first,
Let's take a moment to settle in.
Get comfortable,
Whether that's seated on a chair,
On the floor,
Or maybe even lying down.
Close your eyes or take a relaxed gaze onto something neutral like the floor or the ceiling if you're laying down.
Take a deep breath in through your nose and sigh it out of the mouth.
Let's take two more breaths like that on your own time.
In through your nose and out through the mouth.
One more time.
Now let's check in with your thoughts.
You're probably here today because you're not feeling motivated to exercise or maybe you're just feeling unmotivated in general.
What tape are you playing in your mind about taking action?
Are you too tired?
Too busy?
Don't feel like leaving the house?
Maybe you don't wanna change into your workout clothes or leave the comfort of your bed.
Whatever your thoughts about today's activity are,
Let them just exist in your mind.
Then notice what other thoughts are surrounding your thoughts about your activity today.
Are these thoughts encouraging or are they judgmental and nasty?
If you're having negative thoughts about your motivation,
Maybe calling yourself lazy or unproductive or whatever that might be,
I wanna help you to change that thought.
Consider this.
Do you think you're the only person who's ever felt unmotivated?
What would you say to someone else who is maybe experiencing this?
Probably some more encouraging words,
Right?
Now tell yourself that same encouraging positive message.
You can do this.
Once you'll start,
It's gonna be way easier.
You'll feel much better afterwards.
And just keep repeating these messages to yourself or any other words of encouragement that you've thought of.
Now that you're in a bit of a better head space,
You'll be able to think more clearly about your motivation.
Let's get to the bottom of that lack of motivation.
Think about why you plan to exercise today in the first place.
Did you set a goal?
Did somebody tell you that you should exercise?
I want you to notice the language you use here.
Is it because you should or you have to?
Or because you want to or get to?
When we use words like should and have to,
We put a lot of pressure on ourselves and those words create a lot of resistance in our body.
When we want to do something,
We end up just doing it.
So your lack of motivation could be coming from the language that you're using or possibly from some external expectations.
So think about what reasons do you feel like you should or have to exercise today?
Now,
What reasons do you want to exercise today?
Or do you even want to exercise today?
I want you to consider the reasons why you want to exercise,
Not at some external reason,
But your reason.
Take a moment to consider a time when you experienced positive benefits from your exercise routine in the past.
So this could be during a session,
This could be after a session.
So maybe experiencing something like a runner's high or maybe you just felt like an absolute beast when you did more reps or lifted way more weight than you thought you ever could.
Or maybe you just felt super energetic and pumped up when you're done a workout and you drove home with the windows down and the tunes cranked and sang as loud as you could.
If you're new to exercise and you don't have a positive experience yet,
Imagine that you're that person at the gym that you admire or maybe an athlete that inspires you.
Whatever that moment is,
I want you to pull it into your mind and experience it fully.
Imagine your surroundings.
What did you see?
What sounds can you hear?
Are there any smells?
And what sensations do you feel in your body?
What kinds of thoughts are going through your mind?
I'm gonna leave you some space here to fully experience that moment and visualize it for yourself.
These moments when exercise makes you feel strong,
Confident,
Joyous,
Happy,
Whatever that looks like,
Remind you of the reason why you exercised.
As you savor this positive memory,
Remember that there was nothing really that special about that particular day.
You just simply showed up,
Did the work,
And felt fantastic.
And that day could easily be today.
Dreading or procrastinating on this workout is robbing you of the opportunity to make yourself feel really good.
Feel free to continue to enjoy your memory for a little longer.
When you're ready to wrap up,
Allow these images to drift away,
Leaving behind the positive feelings in your body.
I'm gonna leave you with one question to think about.
What choice will you make today?
The choice to do something positive for yourself or the one that will keep you stuck in the place that you are right now?
That choice is yours.
