Breath,

Our great vehicle to new states of being,

Has been used from the earliest wisdom traditions to the newest scientific developments in wellness.

Today we will explore the breath technique that has been shown to optimize performance.

This simple technique is designed to bring your heart and your brain into a state of coherence meaning you have the greatest access to your executive function.

Scientists at the HeartMath Institute have shown that doing this short breathing technique can bring your major physiological systems into energetic balance.

We will use conscious breathing to regulate our autonomic nervous system and we will generate a renewing emotion to regulate our hormonal system.

Before we begin,

Let's bring to mind the resource we will use for this exercise.

Think of someone or something that gives you a sense of gratitude,

Joy,

Or appreciation.

This will be your resource.

Reflect on what you love about your resource,

What your favorite thought or memory is about your resource.

Keep your resource close in mind as we will be accessing it again shortly.

Slowly bring your attention to your breath.

Witness it as it comes in and leaves again.

Notice as your breath becomes a little slower and a little deeper than it normally is.

And with each inhale,

Imagine your breath is traveling down to your heart.

And from your heart we will exhale as well.

Repeat with this slow,

Deep,

Rhythmic breath for just a minute.

Markers of kindness guide shting your focus.

You continue to keep your breath in rhythm,

Bring to mind your resource.

All the love,

All the gratitude,

And make a sincere attempt to feel the feeling that resource has provided you.

Allow it to fill every cell of your body.

And sit in this pleasant comfortable space for just a minute longer.

Bring your attention back to your environment.

Notice the quality of your sight.

Notice how things may sound a little clearer,

A little crisper.

The quality of this meditation may have changed.

The chatter of your mind has calmed.

This is the power of coherence.
