Bones And Breath Meditation
This meditation connects you to the wisdom of your bones through awareness and breath. This brings consideration to how you move from bone rather than from muscle. I hope it brings much insight, the bones are one of the first things to form when we are becoming, particularly the spine from the jaw to the pelvis, the hold of the wisdom of our ancestors, and much more.

So just take a moment to get comfortable in your space,
In your seat,
Wherever that may be today and begin to bring awareness and focus onto your breath.
It doesn't need to be forced in any way,
You're just acknowledging the rhythm and flow of your breath as it is right now.
And to give yourself something to anchor to as you breathe in,
State in your mind,
I am breathing in,
And as you breathe out,
State in your mind,
I am breathing out.
We're going to keep this going,
Just for a minute or so.
Notice the nostrils as you breathe in,
Continuing this statement and flow.
How's the breath?
How does it feel?
And then bring the hands and just wrap them around the sides of your body if that is appropriate and feels good for you today.
Let the shoulders relax.
I'm going to change the kind of mantra to this body is breathing in,
This body is breathing out and feeling the sides of the ribs opening.
This body is breathing in,
This body is breathing out.
Just noticing that expansion in the side body,
What it feels like for your breath to touch the inside of the body.
Take three more rounds of this breath and let your hands,
If they're around your ribs,
Let them relax down towards your abdomen and just gently hold the belly and witness the breath move down through into the belly.
And we'll keep our breath this deep,
We'll keep our breath moving down into our system,
But let your energy rest in your heart,
Your awareness rest in your heart for these next few moments.
Just observing what the heart area feels like today,
In this moment.
And something which has been inspiring my teachings for a while now is the idea of our bones and how our bones support us and how we can move from our bones.
So with this idea in mind,
Just bring awareness to how you're sat right now and feel from your right sit bone to your left sit bone.
S-I-T,
Sit bones.
Our bones hold a lot of wisdom and they can tell us a lot about how we hold ourselves,
How we project ourselves,
What we think about ourselves.
So just for a moment,
Become aware of your posture and how you are sat right now without changing anything.
If you feel like you're leaning over to one side,
Observe that if the ribs are leaning to one direction,
Shoulders higher than the other.
Notice your body in this moment,
Scanning from your feet,
If they're connecting to the floor or a bed or a sofa,
Whatever you're on,
Through your legs and your hips,
Up the length of the spine.
Is the neck guiding forwards or leaning back?
Just in this moment,
In this awareness of how you are sitting of your body,
Ask your bones if there's anything that they wish to share with you.
Bones are one of the first things to form when we are in uterus,
In the fetus,
Becoming a fetus.
Let your jaw relax and see if that has any impact on the rest of your body.
We're going to welcome back that statement,
But again,
Slightly differently to these bones are breathing in,
These bones are breathing out.
Just for a minute or so.
Use these words to help your bones feel alive as if they're vibrating inside your body and bring awareness to the crown of your head,
The bones in your skull,
As if you are breathing in through the crown of the head and emptying out through the bones in the pelvis.
Breathing in from the crown of the head and emptying out down through the bones in the pelvis,
Your sit bones.
So you're just rinsing this breath all the way through your system,
Like a waterfall.
This next breath,
Breathe in through the crown of the head and guide it to the back of the head,
Where the head and the neck meet.
Feel it washing through the brain and the sides of the head,
The sides of the skull and feeling down and breathing into the bones in the chest,
The collarbones,
Feeling it flood through the back of the body,
The spine,
The rib cage,
The shoulder blades,
Breathing all the way down to the front of the hips and feeling it wash through the pubic bone,
The sit bones and the sacrum.
And then if it is possible for you today,
Start to just give a little shake to your body.
So you're just going to have the ability to come up to a standing position and just give a little shake out through your bones,
Then go for it.
If you're seated,
Then just do the best you can,
Just giving a little movement side to side,
Getting some vibrational energy through your muscles,
Through your bones.
You're going to stand up,
Those who are on this secret,
On this call.
So you can do a little bob into the heels,
The knees,
You can walk around.
It's a little bit off piece for meditation because you could have your eyes open for this.
Just let your breath be as it needs to.
Just a few more moments,
Getting a little wiggle,
Jiggle through the bones,
Last little bit of movement,
And then come to stillness.
And just notice if there's like a little rebound effect after some movement and notice how you want to sit,
How the bones are asking you to sit now.
Once again,
Scanning from your feet,
Are they turned in,
Are they turned out,
Are they parallel,
Is there more weight on the outsides of the feet or the insides of the feet,
The toes or the heels,
Feeling up through the ankle bones,
The shins and the calves,
The kneecaps,
Feeling through the thigh bone,
The pubic bone,
The right hip and the left hip.
Does one feel further forward or back,
Higher or lower,
Through to the sit bones,
Is there weight on one side or the other,
Up through the coccyx and the sacrum.
And like you're using your fingerprints just to walk up the whole length of the spine,
Like you're tracing the spine with its natural curve.
You come up to the top of the back and you can start to feel the ribcage wrapping around,
Protecting your vital organs and the shoulder blades at the back of the body.
And just notice,
Feel into the shoulder blades and do they have any meaning to you,
Have anything to say.
And then up and over the shoulder bones to the collar bones,
The top of the arm,
The elbows,
The lower arms and the wrists.
And then feeling where your hands sit,
Where they rest,
The palms up or the palms down,
And just feeling into each of your fingers and thumb.
Back up to the shoulders,
Does one shoulder feel higher than the other,
Can you let them soften now.
And up through the bones in the neck,
Feeling your jaw,
The cheekbones,
The forehead from the right temple to the left temple,
All the way up to the crown of the head,
Down the back of the skull,
And then resting back up in the crown of the head.
And just taking this final few moments to breathe back in through the crown of the head and exhale down through the body and out of the sit bones or the feet,
Breathing in through the crown of the head and rinsing this energy through your whole body.
One more time,
And then just let yourself rest for another moment here with this awareness of your bones,
Your physical structure,
If anywhere feels like it's holding on or clinging,
See if you can soften,
Notice any sounds around you in your space or outside of your space,
Notice the colour behind your eyelids.
When you're ready,
Rub your hands together,
So just feeling the bones in your hands connecting,
Creating some heat,
And then place these over your eyes.
Rub again,
Create some heat,
Some energy in your hands,
And for the last time,
Place them over your eyes and just give a few blinks,
Welcoming back the light and gently take your fingers away.
