Welcome to Boosting Your Brain Waves.
In this exercise,
I'll share the effects of mindfulness on two of our brainwave frequencies,
Stimulating a relaxing,
Calming,
And even creative state of mind.
Recent scientific studies behind mindfulness tell us amazing things about the brain.
Numerous studies have demonstrated that mindfulness meditation changes areas of the brain that are associated with memory,
Compassion,
Anxiety,
Stress,
And fear.
Using neuro imagery on the brain,
Recent research shows that mindfulness stimulates the parts of the brain responsible for stress-reducing neurotransmitters.
When you meditate,
You're generating higher alpha and theta brainwave signals,
Which helps stimulate the prefrontal cortex in the brain,
Which improves your mood,
Decreases pain,
Incites relaxation,
And boosts your immune system.
It's also an added plus that alpha and theta waves are both associated with high levels of creativity,
Intuition,
And insight.
These side effects are a lot better than opioid side effects.
Do you agree?
By simply closing your eyes,
Even when you're awake and not meditating,
Your brain slows down to the alpha state.
Alpha brainwaves are associated with being in a relaxed,
Non-aroused state of mind.
This is why closing your eyes throughout the day instantly helps you feel more relaxed,
Because it slows down your brainwaves.
Theta waves are associated with deeper levels of meditation,
And they also can produce feelings of relaxation,
Which are more intense than those experienced in alpha.
So let's see if we can stimulate your alpha and theta brainwaves by doing a guided meditation practice with our eyes closed,
Feeling super relaxed and at ease.
Make sure that you're in a comfortable position,
And that you will not be disturbed for the duration of this session.
Bring your focus to your breath,
And really pay attention to how your lungs expand and contract when you inhale and exhale.
Just allow your breath to flow however it wants to right now.
Notice your jaw,
And if you feel any tension here,
Just notice it.
You don't have to change anything or do anything about it.
Now breathe into the sensations in your jaw,
And as you exhale,
Allow it to release a little.
Inhale again.
Imagine that you're breathing in new life,
And when you exhale,
Let all fear completely fade.
Just let it go.
Taking another breath in,
And whenever you naturally exhale,
Feel yourself letting go of any worries.
Notice how relaxed you're becoming right now.
Allowing another breath to come in naturally,
As you imagine a bright future,
And as you let it go,
As you exhale,
Notice how depression eases and fades with the breath.
A gentle wave of relaxation sweeps over you as you continue to breathe in and out.
Just allow your breath to flow naturally.
Allow yourself to feel calm and peaceful.
You deserve this wonderful feeling of serenity.
You're now open to receive new thoughts,
And you open more and even more with each breath you take to new and fresh energy.
Notice how new ideas begin to present themselves to you.
Intentionally bring up and cultivate a feeling of abundance,
As if you have so much that your cup pours over,
Just overflows for others to enjoy the abundance that you have created and brought forth.
Imagine that you are energized,
And you have a zeal for life,
And even if this isn't true of your present self,
Imagine it vividly and with as much detail as you can.
See yourself full of energy and optimism,
Light and joy.
You can imagine it as if you're watching a movie of yourself,
If that is helpful,
But see the colors brightly and watch yourself full of inspiration,
Taking intentional steps towards your greatest yet to come.
And stay with your breath,
Allowing your intentions to remain positive,
Even if you don't feel positive in this moment,
You can still imagine what being joyful is like.
So breathe into this joy that you're now creating,
And notice how you are consciously shifting any depressed or anxious thoughts.
You're doing that right now,
Shifting them into peaceful feelings instead by following your breath.
Breathe deeply,
And allow your exhalation to completely relax you.
Any thoughts that previously held you back become smaller and smaller.
Watch negative thoughts diminish,
Little by little,
As if you're riding away in a car and these negative thoughts are sitting along the roadside,
Shrinking into the distance.
As you ride away with ease and grace,
And as you see them go and disappear into nothingness,
You are freed from their grip.
If you have any other negative thoughts that arise,
Drop them off on the side of the road,
Just drop them.
By any creative means that arise in your imagination,
Drop them and ride away,
Watching them grow smaller until they're consumed by the horizon and gone.
Allow yourself a few moments to simply be,
And notice and feel changes from this moment right now,
And the difference between how you felt before you began this meditation.
Your new thoughts find a new home within your inner being.
Return your focus to your breath for a few moments,
And in your own time,
Whenever you're ready,
You can slowly blink open your eyes.
Excellent.
Very well done.
So to recap,
When you meditate,
You're generating higher alpha and theta brainwave signals,
Which helps stimulate the prefrontal cortex in the brain,
Which improves your mood,
Decreases pain,
Incites relaxation,
And boosts your immune system.
By simply closing your eyes,
Even when you're awake and you're not meditating,
Your brain slows down,
Becomes more relaxed,
Connects to a non-aroused state of mind.
I hope that some of this has been useful for you.
Thank you for your mindfulness.
