This meditation is a guided practice of connecting with, and tending to, the inner flame that lives within each of us. Created as part of my December restmas offering, I believe it is a beautiful practice on its own as well. If you are feeling depleted, overwhelmed, burnt out, or just disconnected from your inner spark, this meditation is for you.

Within each of us there is a flame,

Sometimes it dwindles to mere embers,

Other times it flares into life,

A veritable conflagration of passion and creative energy.

But no matter its size,

Its shape,

Its potency,

It always exists within you.

If you have been feeling drained,

Overwhelmed,

Burnt out,

This meditation will help you connect with that tiny spark,

That ember within you,

No matter how faint it may be,

And breathe some life back into it,

Allowing its warmth and energy to suffuse each and every cell of your body.

So find a comfortable place to be for the next 10 minutes,

Gently close your eyes or take a soft gaze downwards if that's more comfortable for you,

And allow your breath to guide you into your body,

Feeling your lungs expand with each inhale,

Feeling your body soften with each exhale,

Allowing yourself to be held by whatever surface you have chosen to rest upon in this moment.

As you breathe and allow your breath to bring you inwards,

Allow your mind also to begin to explore the internal landscape.

Imagine your mind's eye turning inward at your third eye,

So your awareness rests inside your skull,

And allow this awareness to drop down along the energetic channel,

Along your spine,

Down through throat and heart,

Through soul or plexus,

Until it drops into your pelvic bowl,

Your womb space if you are in a female body,

And in this place of the sacral.

Rest easy,

Held by the comforting walls of your pelvic girdle,

And feel the energy that pulses and flows in this space.

As you sit in this place within your body,

Begin to imagine the gentle light of a flame glowing in the darkness within your creative centre.

To begin,

Just notice how this flame appears,

Is it the soft glow of a candle?

Is it the whisper of a spark,

That dull black-red glow of embers?

Perhaps it burns a little brighter,

Stronger.

For this moment,

Simply observe the flame,

Without any judgement,

And if your flame burns brightly,

Your job here today is to simply sit with it,

And bask in its glow for the next few minutes,

And if your flame feels faint,

Flickering,

Mere embers or the tiniest of candle flames,

I want you to breathe gently into the flame,

As though you were breathing on tiny embers,

So delicate,

So precious,

Trying to kindle a fire,

And allow your breath to be infused with love and compassion.

Feel the energies of the universe holding you,

Co-mingling in your breath,

And as you allow your flame to rest gently at the stage of candle light,

Or if it's feeling good and you desire,

You can continue to blow,

Sending energy and love into that space,

Until your inner flame is crackling merrily,

And when your flame reaches the desired energetic output for this moment,

Take some time to feel this flame,

This warmth,

This creative life force,

Emanating its energy and heat from the space of your womb,

Of your pelvic girdle,

That cradle of your pelvic bones,

Outward,

Gently,

Softly,

Through your entire body,

Allowing each cell to be bathed in its warmth,

And to receive its gentle nourishment.

No matter what the external circumstances,

While you are breathing,

This spark always exists within you,

And you can always turn inwards and tend to it.

Notice how your body is feeling in response to fanning this creative flame,

This inner fire,

And before you begin to bring yourself back into an awareness of the room around you,

Take a big breath in and place your hands over your lower abdomen,

And allow yourself to feel that energy,

And to feel that warmth,

And to offer yourself the sweet gesture of protecting this inner flame,

This life force,

Your soul's steady light,

And bring a smile to your lips,

And allow your breath to bring you once again,

Back into your own body,

And in an outward awareness now,

Instead of an inward awareness,

Taking sweet and gentle time to open your eyes and reacquaint yourself with the space that you are in.

I hope that you walk away from this meditation with just a little more energy,

And return to this place,

This space of sacred flame,

And tend to it as often as you need,

And trust it will always be there for you,

No matter how faint.
