They say that pain is our greatest teacher, but no one wants to learn from him. When we learn to lean into what causes discomfort in our lives we realize that much of what blocks our growth and causes pain is simply misperception. When we notice that what is keep us stuck is not real we can shed beliefs and free ourselves to grow with ease as we were intended.

Isn't it fun how life is perfectly designed for us to awaken?

I find it so fascinating how it's constantly nudging us to notice,

To become more present,

To become more awake to every moment that's passing us by.

So much of the time as we grow up,

We start to feel discomfort,

We start to feel pain,

And we don't know how to cope with it.

From a young age,

We start to experience anger and sadness and these strong emotions that are overwhelming at times.

And so we learn to figure out a way to escape them because our inner child,

Our young beings aren't exactly designed to take on all of the intensities that this world and this life throws at us.

So we learn to numb,

We learn to close off,

We learn to close off our hearts,

We learn to filter through whatever is too overwhelming or whatever we can't deal with.

And we learn to close off from the world,

All these lower disturbances that we don't want to experience.

But as we close off to extreme anger,

Sadness,

Guilt,

Shame,

We cut ourselves off from these feelings,

We also start to cut ourselves off from the higher feelings.

And what I've learned is that there's really no free lunch.

You can't close yourself off from experiencing things like anger and disappointment and frustration and shame and not have any effect on the top run.

It seems that as we close our hearts from experiencing these lower things,

We also cut ourselves off from feeling these higher things as well.

But what's beautiful is that life is always pointing us toward the truth.

And it does so through the pain of experiencing our misperceptions.

What I've noticed is that our minds will create all kinds of beliefs that we think are truths.

And it will run these truths.

Sometimes people call them limiting beliefs,

Things like I'm not good enough,

I'm unlovable,

I don't deserve to be here.

These things that stop us,

That block our growth,

That block our progress.

They will,

They'll block our progress,

They'll keep us safe,

They'll keep us contained.

But what we find is that as we continue to try and progress,

We have this life force that's trying to come through us.

That's trying to create,

That's trying to expand,

Have us grow.

And when this life force that's coming through us bumps up against all these miscreations of the mind that are meant to keep us safe,

That are meant to keep us protected,

We experience a deep level of anxiety,

Stress,

Depression.

And I really do see this as a plant that's trying to grow.

And as this plant's growing,

There's an invisible box,

A glass box that's placed over the plant.

And this plant that we are is trying to expand,

It's trying to grow,

It's trying to bloom and blossom and procreate and just keep on expanding outward.

But as it hits this invisible box,

It starts to get cramped,

It starts to feel contained,

Feel stuck,

Feel stagnated.

And although it knows,

Its individual or universal intelligence knows that it can grow into a huge plant,

This gap between what it knows itself to be and what it knows itself to be capable of and where it finds itself,

It's in that gap that so much frustration,

So much anxiety,

Stress,

Depression,

It comes from that gap,

That perceived gap.

And when this life force is trying to come through us,

Gets blocked by the mind,

It creates disturbance.

And it can be overwhelming when we don't know what's going on,

When we just feel this intensity within us,

When we can't go to sleep at night and we wake up having all these negative thoughts.

The mind,

When it comes up against this internal friction,

It feels overwhelmed,

It feels stuck,

It feels blocked,

It feels like,

For lack of a better word,

It's like crap.

And it's meant to.

This is where I think that we have misperceived what's occurring within us.

It's meant to feel like crap when we can't expand,

When we can't grow,

When we can't become what we're meant to become.

It's meant to cause pain and disturbance because when we can take a closer look and lean into this pain with courage and begin to look at what's causing this blockage of this life force energy from coming through us,

We can realize that so much of it is just limiting beliefs,

It's miscreations of the mind about ourselves,

About our loved ones,

About our communities,

About the world and how it is.

So much of these misperceptions or misinterpretations are created by fear.

Now fear is a really important thing.

It has been a very,

Very important thing and it'll continue to be a very important thing.

And while fear used to be such an important thing just not too long ago,

You go back a few hundred years and you look at the medical system we have today,

You look at the police force that we have today,

You look at the laws and regulations and safety factors that have been put into buildings and into systems in our society,

Safety has greatly increased around the world.

And while we still have a long way to go to even out a lot of places in the world,

What I think we're seeing right now in our more modern civilizations is that we've designed these places of safety,

Of security,

Of abundance and we have now moved into the future with this safety,

These civilizations built of safety and abundance.

And the challenge is that our minds still think that we live in the jungle or out in the savanna where mountain lions and tigers and all kinds of things are going to come and get us.

So we have fear and we have this deep,

Deep fear that's meant to keep us safe.

But now instead of being used to perceive lions that might be actually going to attack us in the jungle,

Now this fear is being used to stop us,

To slow us down internally by perceiving threats all over the place.

When you look at some of the top entrepreneurs these days,

Some of the top more successful people,

They have gotten there because one,

They either have a lower amount of fear or they've learned to overcome their fears and they've learned to be big,

They've learned to take big actions,

To take big risks because they know that they're not going to die if something goes wrong.

If they fail,

They know that people might judge them but they don't relate to that judgment as if it's something that can actually kill them.

And so they're able to flourish,

They're able to create on a very,

Very big scale,

On a massive scale where a lot of people aren't able to do that.

We are stuck,

We get stuck in our fears and our misperceptions of the mind that slow us down.

But going back to the plant that's trying to grow,

As it bumps up against that invisible box,

It has two options.

It can either just accept it and deal with that frustration,

Deal with the anxiety that builds up as it grows more and more and pushes more and more up against that invisible layer.

Or it can notice that there's something here and pause for a second and look at what is this that I'm bumping up against here?

What is this that's slowing down my progress?

And a lot of times when we look deeper,

When we look underneath whatever the fear is,

Whatever this force that's stopping us is,

So much of the time it is a misperception.

And it's something that was built into us to keep us safe from the past.

That now that we're adults and we're capable of so much,

It's now time to shed whatever this belief is about ourselves,

About the world.

And so that it opens up the possibility of us being able to create again with ease,

Knowing that we're safe,

Knowing that we're supported,

And knowing that even if something goes wrong,

We're not going to die,

Even though we might perceive it as that way from the belief.

So that is my perspective on life and on awakening,

Is that it really is this process of continuing to expand.

And when we notice that our expansion is being blocked,

To really lean into it with courage and to notice what is this?

What is this invisible thing that feels so real?

What is it?

And let's look at it.

Let's pick it up.

Let's look at it and understand it.

And oftentimes as we understand it at a deeper level,

It's kind of like the man behind the curtain.

All of a sudden this big scary thing like in the Wizard of Oz,

All of a sudden turns out to be just an ordinary thing and it actually isn't that big and scary after all.

So as you continue on with today,

Take a moment and just notice if there's any intentions that you've had recently that are feeling blocked and ask yourself the question,

What story am I telling myself about this?

What is it that's being misperceived?

And if you can notice from a higher consciousness perspective,

What it is that's blocking you,

Then just like that,

It'll open up a space for you to expand with ease.

Have a great rest of your day and take care.

Dan, thank you. Right from the very start of this important pod cast, I had captured what you are conveying, and it was so important to hear it and remember. I live my life with no fear, and most people around me say I am reckless. I smile, and know, they are just not there yet. But, you are right, sometimes my mind waivers, but it is lovely people like you that remind me and get me back on track. Yes, life keeps nudging me to greatness. Thank you!!

Thank you for your thoughts and words. You have a lovely, resonating, musical voice. The foreground music accompanying your words overplayed you. I first heard the annoying piano strumming and high pitched flute and then tried to find your thoughts. I find your voice to be melodic enough, and interesting.

So true. And it amazes me how slowly this process was/is for me. But I'm getting there!
