
Becoming Your Authentic Self
"To become your authentic self, you have to let go of what everyone else is doing. Stop comparing. Stop following the crowd. Stop being a people pleaser. You are uniquely you, nobody else, and nobody else is you, because they are uniquely them." In this podcast, Rebecca inspires listeners to become their authentic self. Includes a short self-reflection task and a monologue from one of Rebecca's clients, Stephanie Lyons, who now lives consciously awake and in full flow with her authentic self.

From birth we are conditioned to think a certain way,
Act a certain way,
Feel a certain way and even look a certain way and we suppress some of the things that are naturally a part of us.
Our true selves are often hidden away and we create a mask to suit the society that we are born into.
This society is high pressured and those pressures are carried by us into adulthood where we either continue to carry them or we become awakened and we drop the heavy load.
I'm so glad I did that.
Think back,
When we are growing up all we want to do is fit in with those around us.
If we don't this attracts negative attention from the outside and makes us feel stressed on the inside.
If we do we then have a continuing pressure to uphold that status.
As we get older we also want to fit in but in different ways,
Usually to follow the traditions of past generations.
We think to be happy we need to go as far as we can in mainstream education to then get a good job,
Work hard,
Get married,
Buy a house,
Have children,
Save money,
Go on nice holidays,
Make sure your children do well,
Make sure your children have everything and then the cycle continues.
These things are seen as the way but they are not the only way.
Constantly trying to meet the expectations of society actually causes us stress.
I wonder how many of you are in a so-called good job but you don't get any satisfaction from it.
How many of you thought that the big house would bring you the ultimate happiness and actually it didn't.
How many of you are constantly looking ahead not living in the present moment,
Always looking forward to the next thing,
The weekend,
The holiday,
The new furniture or car or clothes or gadgets.
It all sounds very exhausting and that's because it is.
We are the creators of our external world and this then has an impact on our internal world.
To become awakened sometimes people need to experience an epiphany moment to snap them out of their conditioned state of mind.
Others kind of have a knowing from a young age.
I fall into this category,
There were no epiphanies as such for me,
Just a lot of moments in my life where I thought I was on another planet and this was all madness.
I never conformed and even when I tried to the universe had a way of putting me back on my own individual path.
This is the way for me because it is my way.
It will never be the same as any other person's and this is where you have to realize that to become your authentic self you have to let go of what everyone else is doing.
Stop comparing,
Stop following the crowd,
Stop being a people pleaser.
You are uniquely you,
Nobody else and nobody else is you because they are uniquely them.
You also need to let go of judgments.
The reality is certain people will judge you no matter what you do.
So just accept that that is their energy and not yours.
Have you ever found yourself following and admiring someone on social media and inside you feel disappointed that you can't be like them?
Have you felt inadequate when it seems like their life is better than yours?
Have you felt low because you don't look a certain way or fit a certain mold?
When you live in alignment with your authentic self you become empowered,
More confident and true to yourself.
This then helps you to make decisions outside of what is expected of you.
Decisions that could lead you on to a happier and more content you.
It can be difficult to just switch your mindset but here is a little task for you.
In your mind's eye take away all the material stuff,
All the things that you feel attached to,
The things that you feel define you.
Take away social media,
Any thoughts of people judging you or any negative judgments that you have about yourself.
Take away any self-limiting beliefs and take away anything in your life that does not serve you in a healthy and joyful way.
One by one let everything disappear for a moment.
Now there's nothing to distract you,
Define you or limit you.
It's just you as your purest stripped back self.
How do you see yourself?
How do you feel?
Have you maybe lost a sense of value or importance?
Do you feel a sense of relief and freedom?
Are there any thoughts of what you could become?
When we become so attached to the external things and what we believe is expected of us we simply forget our true potential and who we were born to be.
Now think about the different paths that you have chosen to take in your life because you felt pressured to or because you thought it was the way to success or happiness,
It was the way you were supposed to go along with the crowd.
Think about how often you've made a decision to avoid what you think could be seen as a failure.
Think about the times when you haven't followed your heart,
What stopped you?
Remember that pressure isn't necessarily felt because of words spoken directly to you,
It can be from learned behaviours,
Education,
The media or just the way society is in general.
We can sometimes feel under pressure because of expectations from external sources but think about where exactly the pressure you feel comes from.
Is it really from the external world or is it from you?
Are you thinking freely and tuning into your authentic self?
Are you living the life you have chosen because it is your way or have you followed society's unwritten rules and maybe reached a dead end?
When we choose a path to become our authentic selves we live with a greater sense of wellbeing and we live with more freedom because we're living for ourselves and not to meet somebody else's or society's expectations.
We may need to go through a process to unravel or undo past conditioning or heal emotional damage that has made us become stuck.
To become what you are always supposed to be you need to remove the layers that have built up over time.
This is where the self-help work comes in.
Only you have the answers.
I often say to my clients and retreaters that the therapies and coaching I provide are only a set of tools to facilitate your healing journey.
How you use the tools is completely up to you.
You have the choice and you have the power.
And today I'm really excited to introduce you to a wellbeing warrior that took those tools and embarked on an inspirational healing journey.
I met Stephanie Lyons on our first retreat in 2019 and I got to know her better through subsequent UHE retreats and events and we are still in touch now.
This lady is an incredible example of true authenticity and strength and she continues to go from strength to strength on her journey.
She certainly inspires me.
I asked Steph to share some of her story to inspire my listeners and this is what she said.
Hi Rebecca it's a pleasure to be here sharing my journey with you on this week's podcast.
I'm Stephanie,
I'm 43,
I'm other to a three-year-old daughter.
I only discovered about 15 months ago an awakening to a different way of living my life.
Previously I felt I had sleep to walk my whole life and now I face my challenges consciously awake.
My journey of unraveling to reveal my true authentic self began when I offloaded a toxic relationship I've been in for five years.
This had deeply affected me both mentally and emotionally and felt like I had nothing else left to give to anybody else.
It took a lot of strength and a miscarriage in July 2019 to finally awaken me.
I went on my first UHE retreat in August 2019.
I really was not in a good place both physically and mentally and I nearly did not go but I'm really glad that I did.
It was the catalyst to a realisation I could not continue the path I was on.
Fast forward to October 2019,
The next retreat with the UHE community came another big shift in my mindset.
I recall so clearly Rebecca a particular sound bath that you did that was just so amazing with a mantra to release blocked emotions.
As a group we all said this together and it was really really powerful.
It was like a light bulb moment and I had a huge release of blocked emotions and the tears just flowed.
It really felt so good.
I was able to have this space without judgment and offered nurturing support.
Finally in the December of 2019 I felt strong enough and had the courage to end the relationship.
As a result of this I felt a great relief,
A huge weight that had been lifted off me and empowered that I now actually had control of my own life,
That I had everything I needed within myself.
I really never thought that I would get to where I am today and this has been achieved by hard work and determination with continual self-development through reading,
Meditation,
Journaling,
Actually trusting my own instinct and listening to my heart,
Lunar practice,
Giving myself self-love,
Setting boundaries,
Surrounding myself with supportive people,
Saying no and ending any relationship that does not serve my higher self and most of all feeling comfortable in my own space and silence.
This journey has not always been easy but I just have to keep going,
Trust and surrender to the universe and it will deliver to me what I require.
I don't force it and I really have no idea what the future holds but I find this really exciting and I really try to live mindfully in the moment.
I'd finally like to end on a small quote that I actually wrote myself a few months back that just flowed through me after some inner reflection and time with myself.
I am becoming who I was born to be from my first breath,
Who I am meant to be,
Bringing the inside out,
The true me,
A feeling of rebirth into the light and leaving the darkness behind me.

Are you ready to get more in tune with your authentic self?
Can you think of any ways to help you to peel back those layers,
Remove the mask and reveal your inner light?
I can promise you that the pathway to your authentic self is a beautiful one,
It's also an exciting one.
I know because I have been on this journey,
I'm on it now and I believe there is no set destination.
I don't know where the road is taking me but I feel no pressure to even have that answer.
I've learned that life can change drastically in a heartbeat,
The rug can be swept from under your feet but when you are living your life consciously and authentically,
You seem to become more resilient and you can adapt better to those changes.
You don't cling on so much to the things on the outside,
Instead you learn how to nourish and protect what is on the inside and that is all we really have control over.
There's no such thing as failure either,
You simply cannot fail,
You can only learn and grow.
Today's meditation practice is a nice short one,
It's something a little bit different.
We're just going to be repeating some positive affirmations.
I recommend you bring your hands into a prayer position at your heart centre and set the intention of sealing these affirmations deep into your heart space.
Believe them,
Maybe you could write them down,
Meditate on them again,
Meditate on them every day if you need to.
So we're not going to do any breath work,
We're not actually coming into a meditation state,
We're just simply repeating these affirmations to seal them into our heart space and move forward to our authentic selves.
I now let go of all self-limiting beliefs.
I love and respect myself as I am right now.
I choose the things that serve me and follow my own way.
I am striving to reach my true potential.
I am becoming my authentic self.
