Hello,
My name is Hillary LaFawn and I'm so grateful that you join me today to explore disappointment.
Disappointment can be really hard.
Stops us in our tracks.
May feel as a big rain cloud is just following you around.
But you're not alone.
We all go through it.
And hopefully this meditation can help you accept it,
Let go,
And grow.
So wherever this meditation finds you,
Allow yourself to become fully present.
How do we do that?
We start with the breath and the five senses.
Take a deep,
Long breath.
And allow yourself to soften with the exhale.
And as you breathe,
Bring some awareness to the body's sensations.
If your eyes are open,
What do you see?
What's around you?
What do you hear?
What do you smell?
What do you taste?
And what do you feel?
These can be physical sensations,
Cloth on the skin,
Shoes on the feet.
And they can also be emotions.
Anger,
Sadness,
Disappointment.
We're not trying to change anything today.
We're just trying to acknowledge and accept so that we may let go and grow.
So as you breathe and settle,
Notice what arises for you.
Feel the sensations.
Maybe there's a heaviness.
Maybe there's a lightness.
Maybe you feel warm or cool.
Maybe there's pressure in the chest.
A tingling in the belly.
Maybe you might find tension behind the eyes or the jaw.
And although these feelings are not ones of joy and happiness and delight,
Our lesson is how to sit with them without trying to change them.
Without trying to mask the feelings by eating,
Shopping,
Over-exercising,
Using substances.
The exercise is to be here now.
Maybe you were passed up for that promotion.
Maybe you've applied to 35 roles this year and make it to top two and have not been selected yet.
Maybe there's been a loss in your life.
A loss of a job,
A family member,
A dear beloved pet.
Whatever it is,
You're okay.
This is part of life.
The old saying that life is 10,
000 joys and 10,
000 sorrows.
And sometimes it feels we have all 10,
000 of those sorrows in a few months or a few years.
But what does this time in your life have to teach you?
And are you brave enough to listen and learn?
I encourage you to breathe deep and offer yourself compassion and love.
Remind yourself you're doing your best.
You show up each day to the ones that are closest to you,
To your co-workers,
To your community,
To yourself.
This too shall pass.
You will not always feel this way.
So again,
Come back to the breath.
Allow your body to soften.
Ask yourself,
Can I accept this?
Can I let go so that I may grow?
Let's end our time together with three deep breaths.
Inhale deeply through the nose and exhale completely through the nose or the mouth.
Two more times,
Inhale deeply and exhale completely.
One more time,
Inhale and exhale.
Thank you so much for the precious gift of your time.
Until next time,
Be well.
