Hello,
My name is Hillary Lafon and I'm so grateful you've joined me today to explore Finding Your Why.
Now what does this mean,
Finding your why?
Very simply,
If there was one sentence,
I could offer it as,
Why do you get out of bed every day?
Maybe you're still in bed as I'm talking.
Maybe you're sitting upright in a chair.
Maybe you're walking around.
But before we continue,
Let's get ourselves comfortable.
Let's focus on our breath.
Allow the mind to quiet so we can listen to our heart to explore finding our why.
So if you can,
Close your eyes.
Allow your body to soften as you take deep,
Full breaths.
Let's do a couple of breaths together.
So exhale all your breath out.
Inhaling deeply through the nose for the count of four or five.
Exhaling two,
Three,
Four,
Five and exhaling completely for five or six,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
Two more times,
Inhale through the nose,
Feeling your chest rise and your stomach expand,
Drinking in the delicious oxygen and air.
And then exhaling slow,
Long and letting something go,
Whether it's tension in the body,
A negative thought in the mind.
One more time together.
Exhale through the nose and exhale through the nose or the mouth.
Noticing how just three breaths can relax our body.
Maybe it's even helping with the stream of thoughts become less incessant.
Even if your mind is racing or busy,
That's okay.
Just notice it without judgment.
Breathing,
Softening,
Settling.
Allow the muscles of the face to relax.
If you're grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw,
Create some space,
Softness.
Notice the muscles around the eyes,
The back of the head,
Everything melting,
Becoming more relaxed with each breath.
Let your stomach be loose,
Noticing your hands and your feet if there's any tension in these areas.
Take a breath and release.
And now as you breathe,
Consider the idea of finding your why.
What makes you get up out of bed every day?
And if you don't know that just yet,
Allow this exercise to plant the seed that will help you figure it out.
What is important to you?
What are your values?
These are great questions if we're trying to consider and figure out what our why is.
Where do you want to see your life in five years?
Only you can answer these questions and they don't need hard answers right now.
This practice helps open the dialogue,
Open the door.
Maybe the window has been shut for many years.
Open the window,
Let fresh thoughts in.
Breathe,
Soften,
Settle.
If you're not sure what your why is,
Consider three things.
What is more important to you?
The welfare of the planet,
Humans or animals.
Starting with those three topics,
Picking one that calls to you,
That you hold dear to your heart,
And then realizing what it is that you are drawn to.
Maybe your why stems from wanting to help other people or help animals or help save Mother Earth.
How does it make you feel in your body when you think of these areas or you think of purpose or what your why is?
Why do you get out of bed every morning?
If anything is tensed or tightened,
Take a few deep breaths.
Maybe after our time together,
Spending a few moments journaling,
Saying something out loud,
Taking a walk while thinking of this topic,
Talking with a friend or mentor.
All of these things can help you find your why.
When you're ready,
Open your eyes,
Come back to the present room.
Thank you so much for allowing me the precious gift of your time.
Until next time.
