Hello and welcome to the Daily Insight.
My name is Hillary Jakendoff and today's five-minute meditation is a simple practice inspired by yoga nidra,
Almost like a yoga nidra warm-up that fine-tunes the awareness to be able to sense and feel the body in a new way.
Take a moment to get comfortable lying down with the feet about hip-width apart and the arms and hands alongside you.
Let your whole body soften.
Feel that you are supported.
Feel held.
Consciously give yourself permission to let go of all effort.
Let your eyes softly close.
Let your lips too.
And simply allow your awareness to perceive whatever experiences are arising.
Noticing sensations,
Sounds,
Smells,
Tastes in the mouth.
Be aware of the sense of sight even with eyes closed.
Begin to gently drift awareness to the right arm,
The right hand,
Observing sensations here as your awareness lands on your right arm and hand.
Notice if the muscles can soften even a little.
Now the left arm,
The left hand,
Welcoming in sensations arising in the arm,
The hand,
The fingers,
The palm.
Shift attention back to the right arm and hand.
Now back to the left.
Feel into the whole right side of your body in the same way.
The whole left side of your body.
Now shift attention to the back of the body,
The back of the body.
Now to the front of the body.
Now simply sense and feel the entirety of your physical body.
The entirety of your physical body held in awareness.
Be aware of your physical body within the room,
Sensing the space you occupy and preparing to move back into your day,
Carrying with you this feeling of presence and knowing that it is always available to you.
Thank you so much for practicing with me today and I hope you'll join me for a 10 minute or a 20 minute yoga nidra later on.
Have a great day.
