You may want to be in either a seated position or standing for this meditation.

And once you are in your chosen position,

Make sure your feet are flat on the ground,

Placing one hand on the belly and the other on the chest,

Feeling the rise and the fall with each breath,

Feeling the belly and then the chest,

And then exhaling and allowing the chest to sink and the belly to relax.

And continuing to feel that rise and that fall,

Focusing on the movements,

Focusing on the texture of your clothing or your skin,

And how that feels with each rise and fall.

And paying attention to your breath,

Letting that go while you continue to breathe and bringing your awareness to your feet,

Feeling them firmly on the ground,

Feeling them root into the earth and feeling that rooting moving up your legs and into your hips.

And if you haven't closed your eyes,

Doing so now,

And the first tree that comes to mind,

Envision that tree.

Envision that tree.

And now stepping into the tree,

Repeating to yourself,

I am the tree and the tree is me.

I am the tree and the tree is me.

Feeling your feet root,

I am the tree and the tree is me.

Feeling your toes each touching the ground one by one by one by one by one.

By one.

I am the tree and the tree is me.

Feeling your feet and your toes pushing into the earth,

Reaching down from the floor that you are standing on,

Whether it be the ground floor,

First,

Second,

Or higher,

Pushing down through the building,

I am the tree and the tree is me.

Pushing down,

Pushing your roots down,

Down into the earth,

Past the grass or the flowers.

Or the moss,

Into the soil,

Deep,

Deep,

Rich,

Nutrient-rich soil.

Pushing your feet down,

Down,

Maybe passing some moles,

Worms,

Other insects or animals beneath the soil as you move your roots down and into the water table.

Now you are drinking deep,

Drinking deep from the nourishment of the earth,

From the minerals and the resources filling you up energetically as you push down in.

I am the tree and the tree is me.

I am the tree and the tree is me.

I am the tree and the tree is me.

And as you continue to root deep into the earth,

Grounding and stabilizing,

Bringing your awareness back to your breath,

The rise and fall of your belly and your hands and your chest,

And now releasing your hands and reaching them up,

Up,

Up into the sky,

The branches of the tree,

The other half.

We need to be grounded to reach upwards,

To branch out,

To reach out,

To reach our higher and wider selves,

To reach the upper realms.

We need firm grounding.

I am the tree and the tree is me.

And now maybe you begin to sway a little in the wind,

Just a gentle sway.

Trees are pretty solid beings.

But maybe you find yourself reaching towards the sun to face that warmth and that sunshine,

Or up to the rain to feel the water coming down from above while your roots are receiving the water from below.

And now just being here for a moment as the tree.

I am the tree and the tree is me.

And if you haven't already done so,

Bringing your arms,

Your branches,

Your hands,

Back down,

Placing them gently on your belly and your chest again,

Feeling the rise and the fall,

And bringing your awareness back to your roots,

Back to the deep grounding and receiving back to the deep grounding and receiving from the earth,

The exhale that you feel as a tree releasing,

Allowing the earth to receive and compost.

And maybe pulling your roots back up a bit,

It can be rather hard to walk around as a tree,

But still leaving that connection,

The energetic bond and groundedness that you received as you thank the tree that greeted you,

That you became for a little while.

And remembering,

I am the tree and the tree is me as you continue on with your day.
