Today I'd like to share a bit about medicine and please remember this is only my opinion and I just want to voice this because of bringing awareness into your choices.
When I was giving a retreat last week,
One person had quite a heavy headache and one of the other persons came to me asking for some painkillers,
Mentioning a very common painkilling name medicine,
Whether I had that.
So my first question was like,
Okay,
Rewind,
What is happening?
And then of course I had to ask the person himself,
But what turned out,
He had a serious headache and from like a default response asked for this certain brand of medicine to kill the pain.
By stopping him and asking what is happening and zooming out,
I felt and saw that it's part of his process,
During the retreat things start moving,
Energy starts moving and with that you can experience physical symptoms.
It doesn't mean they are less painful just by having this observation,
But at least it gave a context of the process he is going through and that that might cause symptoms.
The second part of this is that we are by default so used to putting medicine in our system to numb what you feel.
For me the body is so wise,
The body gives the signals,
Signals about what is going on.
If you have intestinal problems,
Then something is difficult to digest.
You can see this from a physical point as in the tangible digestion,
What foods,
What maybe way of eating is not serving you,
But digestion is also the things that happen to you in a daily situation.
You have to digest what you see,
What you feel,
Your emotions.
Looking from that perspective,
It circles back to the retreat,
He was processing something which he found quite difficult and he was not really ready to release yet,
Hence the headache.
That is what I got from talking to him.
That already gave him a different perspective that it is part of the process.
If you numb it with medicine,
It releases the pain,
Yes,
But it also takes away the signals of your body guiding you in what to do.
He was helped by getting some rest,
Sleeping some more,
Skipping one session and he was helped by some essential oils which I gave him to release a bit the pain of the headache in a more,
Let's say,
Organic way.
I am not here to advocate one way or the other.
I am here to bring you awareness of,
Ok,
Do you see what is really going on in your system?
What are certain symptoms telling you?
It is not that I am against western medicine,
But I am against just numbing everything by just putting in medicine without going to the root cause.
And to start searching for the root cause,
You need to bring awareness in your situation and be willing to start looking at,
Hey,
What is actually going on?
What is the process I am going through?
And in this case I could bring a first level of awareness into that with both my guest who had a headache,
But also the one who started to ask for the medicine in the first place,
Because she wanted to help him.
So again I realized how much we are in this system of just grabbing something to kill the pain and continue with what we are doing.
That was also how he felt,
He needed to be present at all the sessions.
Well one of the first things I always say in my retreats,
There is no session obligatory.
Just I appreciate if you let me know if you will not be there so that we don't wait for you,
But feel what your body needs.
And if your body needs rest,
If your body needs a walk,
If your body needs something else that is not offered at that moment,
Either ask or go and find your own way of giving what you need.
So this brought again awareness at so many different levels,
That it is okay to take care of yourself and your own needs,
It is okay to feel,
It is okay to experience physical symptoms,
Although uncomfortable,
And of course you can find ways to relieve the pain,
And that might be very helpful as well.
It is also good to stop and really give your body rest.
And actually it was I think 3 or 4 hours later,
I was about to ask how he was doing,
And then I looked at him and I realized already,
His pain was gone,
He was chatting and he was joining the conversation and he was having a different look on his face,
And he had been able to release it,
His headache didn't come back.
Just by being present with it,
Just with a little bit of self-care,
He probably didn't even know why he had a headache,
But he started seeing that because he was there,
He could learn something from it.
And yeah,
That is in my retreats one of the things,
Well maybe even the biggest takeaway,
That bringing awareness into whatever it is you are facing,
Makes you always realize that everything is already there,
The signs,
The signals,
You just have to look,
To see,
To listen,
And everything is provided.
And sometimes it is uncomfortable,
Yes,
That is what he experienced as well.
With this learning process,
You gain inner wisdom,
You start trusting,
You find your own guidance,
Your own support,
And with that,
You grow,
You grow tremendously.
