Hello,
I'm Carina and today I'm going to share with you a few tips on how to avoid procrastinating.
Procrastination is a habit,
Which means that it will be hard to change it overnight.
It needs conscious effort and awareness.
Most of us procrastinate in the attempt to avoid doing things that we don't really want to do.
Procrastination is a form of inner resistance and the reasons behind it might be that you don't feel in alignment with your goal.
Your inner voice says that you will do it later or tomorrow but first you have to do something else.
You don't feel good enough about yourself so what's the point?
You are afraid to make decisions in case you might be wrong.
You are afraid of failure.
You want to avoid mental,
Emotional and physical pain.
We haven't invented procrastination.
Human beings have been procrastinating forever.
Procrastination is when we decide consciously to delay or postpone a task or a set of tasks.
But how to identify the cause of your procrastination?
First of all,
Become aware when you are more inclined to procrastinate.
Is it early in the morning when you have to exercise or late at night when you have to go to bed but instead you choose to spend a little bit more time on social media?
Become aware of how many times you have procrastinated the same thing.
If you are honest with yourself,
You might even know when you are most likely to procrastinate next the exact same thing.
Figure out if your goals are truly yours or they have been passed down from your parents or other members in your family.
So many times we want to please other people but because our goals are not truly ours we can't find the energy to do it.
Ask yourself the question what do I need to stop procrastinating?
And my suggestion is to just begin by having a daily routine.
If there is something you don't want to do,
Begin your day with that exact thing and get it out of the way.
Break it down into smaller actionable pieces.
If you'd have to eat your daily meals in one go,
You'd most likely collapse.
You wouldn't be able to digest all the food.
Before falling into the procrastination well again,
Ask yourself the question which pain is greater,
Doing the work or not doing the work?
Commit to work for 5 or 10 minutes at a time.
If after 10 minutes you still got energy,
Just carry on.
Visualise how you feel once you have completed the task.
And after completing the task don't forget to reward yourself.
Have a nice bath,
Watch a nice movie,
Go for a walk,
Whatever your heart desires.
And as I was looking for ways to maximise my own productivity,
I came across the Ivy Lee method,
Which I'm going to share it with you.
The Ivy Lee method is a simple daily routine that involves the following steps.
1.
At the end of each day,
Jot down the 6 most important tasks you need to accomplish the next day.
Do not write more than 6 tasks.
2.
Arrange these 6 tasks in order of their importance.
3.
Begin your new day by concentrating only on the first task,
Work on it until finished before moving on to the second and so on.
4.
At the end of each day,
Move any unfinished tasks to a new list of 6 tasks for the following day.
5.
Repeat this process every day.
6.
When the next day rolls around,
Do those things in order of importance.
Well,
I do understand that we might not be able to eradicate procrastination completely.
But my desire is for all of us to feel inspired,
To set an intention,
To take action that's in alignment with our true self and then procrastinate less and less.
