Okay then so hopefully you're sitting comfortably.
I'm using the word sitting there,
Not lying down on your bed.
That's cheating because if you do fall asleep you'll just be pausing your energy and then you'll just unpause it when you wake up.
The idea of this meditation is to observe your thoughts,
To detach from them,
To dissipate them.
So you go to bed or go to sleep or finish the meditation feeling a lot more connected,
A lot less fuzzy.
So I'd recommend sitting up,
If it is late at night,
With the light on and let's begin.
So the idea of this meditation is just to watch your thoughts,
Watch your body,
Become the observer of you.
So we're going to say those magic words which are mind,
You are free to wonder.
You want your mind to wonder,
You want it to talk so you can observe it.
And then do just that.
Become the observer of what you're thinking.
What are you thinking?
Is it?
Where are the thoughts?
What do they look like?
Do they have colours?
Do they have sounds?
Are you feeling certain things?
Where are they?
What do they feel like?
That's all we're doing.
We're becoming the observer of what we're thinking and feeling.
You're not trying to do anything,
You're not trying to push anything away or make it bigger or smaller or lighter or brighter.
You're just becoming the observer.
Because by becoming the observer,
The ego and all that jitter chatter will naturally quieten.
And you'll naturally feel more peaceful.
And what will happen is you'll start to feel that connection.
It might as well be peace.
It might be warmth.
I don't want to put words into your mouth but you'll feel something different.
So just observe what you're thinking and feeling.
If your mind goes quiet,
Focus on that nice feeling,
Whatever that is.
Other thoughts may come in,
You're not judging thoughts,
They're not good or bad,
They just are.
You're just observing what you're thinking and what you're feeling.
Maybe your mind's still racing,
Absolutely fine.
Just observe your mind racing.
What's it saying?
What's it doing?
Where is it?
What's it look like?
I'm not trying to make you overthink it,
I'm just saying observe it.
And it will dissipate.
It will get quieter.
It will naturally get quieter.
And throughout the meditation you'll flick between peace and a thought might pop in.
You're always going to have thoughts.
We're human.
Just observe it like the cloud in front of the sun and let it go.
By not trying to let it go,
By just observing it.
You might get an idea,
Pop in,
Brilliant.
You'll know it's an idea because it will feel different.
You won't forget it,
Don't worry.
It'll be there when you come round,
Just observe it.
For the next 10-15 minutes just observe what you're thinking.
When it goes quiet,
Put your attention into that warm feeling,
That peace.
Whatever you feel when you're not thinking.
Make that your touchstone.
You may hear noises outside,
Car alarms,
Dogs,
People walking down the corridor.
It doesn't matter,
You can do it whenever,
Just observe it.
If you get annoyed by it,
Just observe it.
Observe everything that you're thinking and feeling for the next 15 minutes.
You might drift off,
That's fine.
Your head might nod,
That's fine.
But just become the observer of you.
With no judgement,
No outcome,
Just the observer.
