Okay,

So we have a bonus day today.

I wanted to do something that I haven't done before and bring my friend Kara into the conversation.

So bear with us as we figure out all the audio situations for this conversation.

I have my friend Kara here,

Who is my,

We met at a yoga teacher training in 2022.

We're gonna talk about intuition on one microphone and we're gonna share the microphone.

I like to butt in when she's talking and I have a hard time waiting my turn.

But maybe this will teach me patience and to save my thoughts and not talk over my friend.

Yeah,

We had to go to Mexico to meet,

Even though we've lived in the same city our whole lives.

Sometimes you gotta go outside of your comfort zone to meet new people.

Okay,

So this is about intuition.

And I've talked about my experience connecting to intuition,

But I'm curious,

What is your experience?

We didn't even plan this.

So this is on the spot,

But do you have any thoughts?

It's funny because normally I have so many thoughts,

But now that there's a microphone in my hand,

I don't.

I think sometimes the best conversations are unplanned,

But also sometimes it's hard to express yourself when you know someone's listening,

You know?

Like your intuition only comes out when it wants to and sometimes when it's forced.

Yeah,

Then you can't connect to it.

But I think for me,

I'm still learning about my intuition.

What?

She has a better question.

Okay,

Better question.

When was the first time that you connected to your intuition,

Do you remember?

Yes,

But like,

Oh,

I'm just gonna put my foot.

Okay,

Yeah,

But it wasn't good.

Like my first connection to my intuition was when it told me like,

This isn't good,

You're not safe.

You know,

Like when it's so loud that you have to hear it.

I feel like sometimes it has to be loud if you're not listening,

You know?

Because it's like the same things will continue to happen over and over and over until you listen and you finally hear it being like,

Girl,

This is not good.

We have to get out of this situation.

I also feel like as a woman,

Oh,

Closer.

Closer.

I feel like as a woman with your intuition,

You learn what no feels like before you learn what yes feels like.

And I don't know if it's the same for men and if they have that shared experience,

But yeah,

As a woman,

I knew what no was,

But I didn't know what yes was for a really long time.

I think also as women,

We're taught to ignore intuition and that it's like,

You should prioritize logic.

Again,

I don't know if this is the shared experience with men,

But this is my experience and I am a woman.

So this is how it's been for me that I've kind of been told like,

Don't listen to your intuition because it doesn't make sense.

And like,

Why would you ever do that?

For example,

A lot of the times,

Like I've talked about before,

Intuition doesn't make sense.

And it's usually you're like,

Your logical brain comes in and it's like,

Why are we doing this?

This doesn't make any sense right now for the situation.

But in retrospect,

It will make sense after you do it and after you listen.

And once you listen,

You'll be like,

Oh,

Okay,

So I had to do this because it led me to this.

It's not always a direct outcome.

Like the outcome is not always like,

Oh,

I listened to this intuition,

So I got this outcome.

It's mostly like,

I listened to this and then it led me to this and then it led me to that.

And then if I didn't listen to that initial intuitive hit,

I wouldn't have been here five steps later.

I really like that.

I feel like your intuition knows things before your logical brain knows it.

So it'll tell you that something's right for you or not right for you,

But like,

You don't know that yet.

And that's where like the whole aspect of trust comes in and just like surrendering and just trusting that like you do know what's best for you,

Even though your brain hasn't caught up to like the logical,

Like,

Well,

What about this?

What about this?

But like,

It's about surrender and it's about trusting your gut.

And I feel like that process takes years to like practice and in all different situations.

Yeah,

I feel like I still haven't figured that out completely and I'm still learning to trust because sometimes it's so hard to surrender when your logical brain is giving you every reason why like that's not true.

And then you're just like battling within yourself,

Like those two parts of you.

Yeah,

I feel like we gaslight ourselves a lot and we're just like,

No,

No,

No,

No,

No.

This doesn't make sense,

Sit down.

But in reality,

Like that's where we actually need to go.

And I think it's easier to connect to intuition as well when you are connected to your higher self or like connected to that higher favorite version of you that is like in their power and that truly wants the best for you.

And when you kind of like disconnect from the parts of you that are in your old programming.

So for example,

Like sometimes in the morning,

If I notice like fear coming up or I notice anxiety or any like old belief or thought patterns or anything like that,

I will visualize myself scooping those parts of me out and just like putting them in a room to the side and being like,

Okay,

We can talk later.

But right now I'm gonna approach this day from a higher perspective and let go of these old fears and limiting beliefs because they're holding me back right now for the reality that I want.

And from that place,

It's easier to access intuition.

But sometimes it's like as easy as it is to just like scoop those parts out or as easy as it seems,

It's not because life is so fast and we forget or I forget often and I'll just be like caught up in whatever I'm doing and I won't make time for those like five minutes to do that.

I like that a lot.

And I feel like it comes down to mindfulness of like taking the second of like,

Who's driving here?

Like,

Where are these thoughts coming from?

Like,

Is this,

I guess scientifically it would be the amygdala trying to keep you safe and being like,

Remember what happened last time?

Like it didn't work out,

So like don't do it.

And I know evolutionary wise,

We needed that to protect us from being eaten and you know,

But I think spiritually,

We've like progressed past needing that and it only,

For the most part,

Holds us back from trusting ourselves.

But I think that's like the challenge that everybody has to get through at some point in their life where they just start surrendering to their gut and their intuition and start detaching from like the logical fears of everything.

And I think that's something we all have in common and maybe other people have a easier time with it,

But I know that I'll like conquer that and then a new situation will come up and I'll be like,

Oh,

Right,

This again,

You know?

And I'll have to learn it all over again to be able to just surrender and trust.

One thing that I thought about when you were talking about the amygdala and being like,

Hey,

Remember when this happened,

So we can't do it again,

I think it can also be the opposite where you think about all the times you did listen to your intuition and the good things happened and you know,

What came out of it and usually it is a positive thing.

In my experience,

It's always been something helpful for me and sometimes when I'm unsure or when that fear creeps in,

Because a lot of the times,

Sometimes listening to intuition can be out of your comfort zone,

It can be asking of you something that maybe doesn't feel super comfortable,

But just remembering consciously all the times where you did listen to your intuition and there was something,

And basically what came out of that and what good came out of that can help you in listening to that intuition again and just continuing that process.

Do you remember any times that you feel like sharing where you did listen to your intuition and it maybe was really hard at first or uncomfortable,

But the outcome was for your benefit?

I was gonna ask you the same question.

Yes,

Absolutely.

I feel like all the best times in my life or all the best memories I have are times when I let go of all the fear and just trusted and I love how you zoomed in on remembering the positive experiences instead of remembering all the times where there was fear or all the times where you didn't.

Instead,

Focus on,

Of course,

The positives.

I really like that because I think it's so easy to think about what's holding you back from something versus thinking about all the ways you want something or we get so caught up in our fears,

We get so caught up in the negative that it's hard to get back to the good stuff and I feel like even talking about this,

I went right to the negative right away instead of thinking about all the times where I trusted and things worked out,

Which was a lot of the time,

But you forget.

It's easier to remember the bad,

But same question for you,

A time where you trusted your gut and everything worked out the way you wanted it to.

Quick note on that,

Though,

I think that the more that you reframe in that way,

The more you create that new neural pathway because I used to be very much like I would automatically look at or see the negative and remember the negative and just like as a defense mechanism,

Really,

But then I started recently consciously being like,

Okay,

No,

This is,

Let's rewrite this and create that new neural pathway and I think that that's where that comes from,

But back to the question on intuition,

The biggest thing that comes up for me is specifically when,

So I'm a musician,

I don't really talk about that on Inside Timer,

But I was touring in 2019 or I had the opportunity to tour from Canada to the Netherlands and I wasn't gonna do it because of fear and I had so much fear around it and I was like,

Oh my God,

It's gonna be expensive and I'm thinking of all the reasons why I shouldn't do it when I had to do it alone because I didn't have a band at the time and I was just kind of starting but it was a good opportunity,

So I'm like,

Okay,

Well,

I'm gonna have to do this alone and I was basically just fresh out of university,

So I had like no money to my name and I was like,

Okay,

I'm gonna spend thousands of dollars on this trip and for what,

And like just for a trip and who knows what's even gonna come out of it and my people in my life at the time were in my ear saying,

Don't do it,

It's scary,

You're gonna be all alone,

It's dangerous and et cetera,

Et cetera,

Et cetera,

All the reasons why I shouldn't do it and I almost didn't do it and then I don't even know what happened but my intuition was so strong.

I was also going to yoga like five times a week,

So I was super connected and it was Kundalini yoga,

So I was like really in my everything,

In my body,

In my energy and very connected and I remember,

I think it was in a yoga class actually where it was just like this strong,

Like no,

You should do it,

Like you really should do this and if I didn't go on that trip,

I'm thinking of all the ripple effects from that one decision,

My whole life completely changed for the better and now I'm in this place where I am doing this as a career and I feel so lucky to be doing it and I don't think,

I mean,

There's no way of knowing that that wouldn't have happened if I didn't take that trip or if it would have but that was the biggest thing when I think of my intuition and I just stripped back all that fear and I did it anyways and like talking about it now,

It doesn't sound scary,

Like okay,

You're going on a flight overseas for two weeks,

Like it's not that crazy but at the time,

My mindset and my everything about that was so scary and so now to be like,

Oh yeah,

I did that and I actually met so many cool people and so many opportunities came out of it and now I,

It also actually kind of created the relationship I have with myself today and it nurtured that relationship and made it stronger and it helped me trust myself because I was like,

Oh,

I made this decision,

Nobody made it for me and it was the right decision so it helped with more than just intuition or my career,

It helped with my trust for myself and I think that's a big thing when you follow your intuition and you see what happens on the other side,

The relationship with yourself just strengthens and also on an astrology note,

My Scorpio or my North Node is in Scorpio which is basically what that means is in this life,

One of my objectives is to step through fear.

That's like the hardest thing for me,

One of the lessons that I needed to learn in this life and I feel like I've been doing that.

Okay,

So we found a better way to do this and we're going to now let go of the single mic and talk at the same time.

Oh my God,

We get to talk at the same time.

Crazy,

There's actually a built-in mic on your MacBook,

Did you know that?

Surprise.

Oh,

I will.

Welcome back to Nicole's insight timer.

Well,

No,

You keep it going.

But you were talking.

Yeah,

But then I give you the mic.

Okay,

Whatever,

We had to take a break because we had an intermission because- Technical difficulties.

We had technical difficulties,

So we're back.

We're back,

Kara difficulties.

I like that,

Oh,

I like that background.

Anyway,

Yeah,

It reminded me what you were saying of like a pros and cons list.

I feel like that's a thing that people don't do anymore,

But like when you make a pros and cons list,

I feel like you go to the pro and you write like,

Because it would be awesome,

But then right away you go to the cons and it's like,

Because it would be too expensive,

Because it's scary,

And then it just like shifts,

You know,

Like we know why we want to do something and then we make all of the excuses as to why it's not going to work out.

And I feel like- To stay comfortable.

Yeah,

Right,

It does.

And every single moment,

I think for everybody,

All the good moments are the moments where you surrender and where you just do what you feel is right without letting the fear creep in or doing it anyway,

Like doing it scared,

Doing it even though you're scared.

And then once you do it,

The fear goes away because you're like,

Oh,

On the other side of that uncertainty is actually expansion and not your downfall.

Yeah,

But then it's almost like a little bit of PTSD where the next moment comes up and there's the same,

You know,

Similar decision.

And instead of being like,

Hey,

Remember last time where it was great?

You like go back into the fear cycle of like,

But what about like this time it's different and it's not going to work out?

And instead of remembering what happened last time when it was successful.

I feel like that's where the neural reprogramming comes in because that's a,

Depending on,

You know,

Your experiences and your life and everything,

That is a place where most people's brains go or I think a lot of people's brains go,

But you also,

I think we forget that we are also in control of that because of the magic of neuroplasticity,

Which like,

I'm not a doctor,

But I do know a lot about it and I have implemented it in my own life.

And I have seen that shift of like,

I was even taught from a young age to see the negative things first.

And I don't like that and that doesn't work for me.

And I realized one day,

Like,

This is not helpful for me.

And I just decided to change it.

And like,

Yeah,

It wasn't just a snap of a finger where I'm like,

Okay,

Now everything's positive,

But it was so worth it to work on that.

And when you notice that happening and you just take even a conscious shift,

It's like you're strengthening this road for your whole life,

But then you realize,

Oh,

This road actually isn't getting me where I want to go.

So you start building a new road and it's a lot more work and it's a lot of energy output.

But once you get the basics of that road built,

You can redirect,

This is my metaphor,

You can redirect those thoughts to the new road that actually can get you where you want to go.

And that will be a lot more helpful for you.

And I think we forget that we have the power to do that.

That makes so much sense.

It also reminds me of something you said earlier about like,

Remembering who you are and how sometimes like we forget and we even have to look at maybe something that someone texted us that reminded us that or like an old photo or you know,

Like it's crazy how quickly we can forget our power because fear is so strong of an emotion that it overpowers so much,

Even learned experience over time.

And it's like what you said,

It's like strengthening a muscle.

Like you have to keep working at it and then it does become easier.

But at the same time,

Sometimes it feels like every new situation is like brand new and you forget,

You know,

What happened last time or that it's related.

Yeah,

It's like going to the gym.

It's like how no matter how much you go to the gym,

It's still gonna be hard each time,

You know?

Like it's still always gonna be more and more challenging.

Like it never gets easy.

It gets like,

I don't know,

You have more fun with it and it becomes like,

Parts of it become easier but it's never easy.

Like it's hard every time.

And if it isn't,

Then you're not growing,

You know?

I was just gonna say that.

Yeah,

It's the same thing because it's a muscle and like it's just a different type of muscle.

But like practice doesn't make perfect.

Practice just like helps you continue down that path of like keep trusting,

Keep doing it because you build up the momentum,

You know?

Yeah,

And I think like a meditation practice is also a really nice way back to like the intuition aspect to connect with just yourself and then to slowly work your way up to learning how to trust yourself.

And when you learn how to trust yourself,

It kind of coincides with learning how to trust your intuition.

I think a lot of people like let others get in their head about stuff,

Especially with fears.

And then you listen to it because you're like,

Well,

This person wants the best for me.

So if they think I shouldn't do this,

Well then it's like,

Why should I?

It takes even more energy to like overpower all of the doubt coming from other people.

And like,

Not that I want friends that are de lulu for me or like,

Yeah,

Do it,

You know?

Like I want a little bit of realism if it isn't a good decision,

But also like,

Why is it up to them?

Like,

Yes,

Other people's input is important,

But like it all comes back to how you feel about it.

And I feel like we get like overpowered by other people's opinions on what we should do.

That should be like a secret rule if you're gonna ask for somebody's opinion,

You should already be so rooted in yourself that you're not gonna let that opinion sway you.

And that's one thing that when I first like had my first shift of consciousness,

Like my first big shift in consciousness,

I actually,

One of the things,

One of the parts of that was that I stopped asking people for advice.

Whether it was like,

Cause I used to ask my friends everything.

I used to be like,

What outfit do you think I should wear?

Okay,

I still do this.

But now I do this more because I'm like more rooted in myself.

But then I wasn't rooted in myself.

And I was like,

Okay,

I don't even know what my own opinions are because I have all these opinions coming at me.

And I don't even know what my intuition is saying because I have everybody's thoughts and opinions instead of mine.

So I think if you cut that off for a little bit,

Just to get to know yourself,

I think that's like a really good first step.

And then once you know yourself and once you understand what your intuition feels like and you've followed it a few times,

Then you can,

Then it's like,

Then you can start asking opinions again and advice because you should still be able to ask people for advice.

But also if you don't agree with that advice or if,

Cause a lot of the times people are gonna give you advice from,

Well,

All the time people give you advice from their own experiences and perceptions.

And people are not,

They don't have the same intuitive hits as you.

So how could they possibly know what you're feeling?

And like,

No one knows what's best for you other than you.

But I think when you grow up in a household where decisions are made for you or you're not taught to look at your own needs and opinions and wants,

Then you get this programming where you listen to what other people want from you and want you to do.

Cause that's how you grew up,

Where every decision was made for you.

And it takes so much practice to be like,

Wait,

What do I want?

Like what,

What,

How do I feel about this?

And then,

Like you said,

Other people's opinions kind of just become like a little drop in the ocean where it's like,

Okay,

Thank you.

Like,

Thanks for your opinion.

But then you always go back to how you feel about it.

You just consider what they said and it just adds,

It doesn't change how you feel.

You know?

And I think that's the perspective change cause there are people that go the whole other way and just stop asking other people for their input and are just like,

No,

I know what I want.

And I think there is beauty in asking other people for their opinions because especially your friends that want the best for you,

Sometimes do see things that maybe you don't see.

But once you're rooted enough in your own intuition,

That just becomes helpful instead of a hindrance.

Yes,

I agree.

And action.

There's so many songs that start that way.

And every time I think of a new song that starts.

Okay,

Well,

This has been so fun.

Thank you so much for- Thanks for listening.

Chatting with me about intuition.

I hope this was helpful for everybody listening and thank you so much for tuning in.

But this has been longer than I anticipated.

So we're gonna cut it here.

But yeah.

Thank you.

Have a great day.

Bye.

Bye.
