Come on a journey of self healing through the power of shadow work. Shadow work is the process of exploring and understanding our own hidden or suppressed thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. These aspects of ourselves are often referred to as the "shadow" because they are typically kept in the dark or hidden from our conscious awareness. In this meditation, we're going to shine a light on the shadow in order to heal and integrate ourselves. It requires courage and a willingness to face uncomfortable truths about ourselves, but the rewards can be profound as we uncover and integrate the hidden parts of who we are. This meditation is a direct route into healing any past trauma or blockages you might be experiencing and to reconnect with more inner peace.

Hi,

My name is Simon and welcome to Happy Mind Meditations.

This meditation is a meditation that I have created for those of you that would like to work on the shadows within yourself.

You've probably heard of shadow work before and the benefits that it has of simply looking at those parts of ourselves of shedding light into the darkness essentially that we've held within ourselves,

The judgments,

The fears,

The trauma and in a safe space becoming aware of them.

And through that process,

Then being able to let go and integrate back into the present moment.

And through the process of becoming aware of these hidden parts of ourselves,

We can then accept and integrate and heal ourselves and move forward in our lives,

Feeling much lighter and much more at ease within ourselves.

Now realize this is a sensitive space that we are entering into,

But I want to just first begin by saying well done for taking the time to actually face up to that darkness within you.

And just know that by taking that first brave step and looking at the darkness within yourself,

You will realize how necessary this process is to go through the mud and come out the other side feeling much lighter and being able to live the life that you truly want to live with more joy and peace and lightness.

So I have big respect for you for taking responsibility for your life and to claim me back your own power.

So let's just simply begin this meditation by coming to a place of ease.

You can either sit down comfortably for this meditation or you can lie down.

It's completely up to you.

However you feel most comfortable.

I want you to gently close your eyes.

Take a deep,

Slow breath in and gently exhale.

Let's become focused on the breath and my voice.

Deep breath in and gently exhale.

Letting go of all of the stresses of your day.

Notice any tension in your body.

Take a deep breath in and gently exhale.

Now I'm going to count down from the count of five to zero and with each and every number you're going to notice yourself feeling a greater sense of peace and relaxation within yourself.

Five,

You notice your body becoming more and more heavy,

Relaxed and at ease.

Four,

Just notice the lightness within your body.

With each and every count you go deeper into relaxation.

Four,

Three times deeper.

Allow your body to fully relax and come to a place of peace and relaxation.

Two,

Completely relaxed now.

Zero,

You are completely at ease.

Now in this moment we're going to bring to mind one thing that we have chosen that we would like to focus on today.

That one thing that we're ready to look at,

Accept and heal.

I want you then at the same time to bring to mind the former version of yourself who was dealing with this issue at this time.

So we go back in time to when this happened,

This particular event happened to you.

It may be in your adulthood or in your childhood,

But just vision this former self,

This former version of yourself and I want you to invite them in to have a conversation with you.

Just imagine they're right in front of you,

There is an imaginary chair and this former self comes and takes a seat in front of you on this imaginary chair and as they sit there,

I want you to start a dialogue with your former self.

Ask questions that you feel compelled to ask.

If you're not sure what questions to ask right now,

That's okay.

Some examples may be,

What do you want from me?

What is the positive outcome you're trying to keep me from?

What can I learn from this?

And as you continue to ask these questions,

Just allow yourself to acknowledge it without guilt.

Allow yourself to release any guilt that you might be holding onto and just observe and hear out this former self.

Allow this former self version of you to vent,

To let out all of the frustration,

All of the anger they might have,

Any guilt.

Just be the listener and allow it to be.

You're allowed to see their hurts and recognize their hurts and just observe it from a place of non-judgment.

Allow it to be.

Allow it to express itself.

If you're feeling uncomfortable,

Difficult,

Just take a deep breath in and breathe through it and gently exhale.

Just allow it to move through you.

Allow this former version of itself to express itself freely and be the listener here.

We're going to integrate.

I want you to picture yourself in your present state,

Going back in timelines to this version of yourself and resolving the event.

See yourself going back to this event and giving yourself the support and the resources that you have now and allow yourself to heal yourself.

Show that version,

That former version of yourself that it's okay.

Explain to them it's time to move on.

You are so strong and powerful to have made it to where you are today.

You're going to make it through to the other side.

So allow yourself to let go and move on with your life.

Give yourself the compassion,

Support and the love that you didn't get in that moment.

If you want,

You can envision yourself hugging,

Wrapping your arms around this former self as you tell them it's going to be okay.

This too will pass.

Now I want you to take a deep breath in and exhale.

I want you to look at this former version of yourself.

Look them in the eyes and tell them it's time to move on.

At the same time,

I want you to imagine them vanishing,

Disappearing and all past events going with it.

I want you to place both hands over your heart now.

We're just going to breathe in through the heart.

Take a deep breath in through the heart center and gently exhale.

Just connect with a feeling within your heart center,

That space of safety,

Of knowing.

Take another deep breath in and gentle exhale.

As you focus on the heart center and just the feelings within your heart,

You know now that you are integrated,

That this trauma of the past is now a thing of the past and while you may feel parts of it now and then,

You know it's nothing you need to hold on to anymore.

You are free.

You are liberated.

You are powerful.

You are alive.

Take one last deep breath in through your heart center.

Now I'm going to count up to five and with each and every number,

Just notice yourself becoming more and more awake and when you do awake after the count of five and open your eyes,

You will notice a lightness within yourself and a freedom that you've never felt before.

Two,

Becoming more and more awake,

Aware of your surroundings.

Three,

Breathing relaxed,

Calm.

Four,

Ready to come back into the present moment,

Back into the world.

Five,

Gently open your eyes.

Here you are,

Present in the moment.

You're an amazing person.

I have so much respect for your bravery,

For facing the parts of yourself that you used to be afraid of and realizing just like the monster under the bed when you were a child,

When you shine the light on the darkness,

You realize the monsters are not so real.

I hope this was of help for you and thank you for sharing in this meditation.

This is a very powerful experience. It was amazing and scary at the same time. I chose to lay down to do this one. As soon as the countdown started, I felt a very significant rocking sensation… like laying in a hammock rocking to and fro, back and forth with every breath I took. It made me feel safe although I was feeling scared at the same time. It was very comforting. Then, as I said these words to my former self “It’s time to let go, everything is going to be okay” the rocking sensation stopped and I felt waves of peace flow over me. When I opened my eyes, I felt a great sense of release, freedom, and inner peace. Over time, I plan to do this with each past traumatic event that’s lurking in the shadows. Thank you, Simon, for taking me on this very profound journey. I have a deep appreciation for you and your wonderful meditations. 🙏🏻
