Yin energy is gentle, feminine, creative, nurturing and ALL of us (whatever gender) embody Yin ☯️ - it’s the mysterious, the moon, the slow, the soft and deeply nourishing. In a pretty Yang world - sensitivity and softness is often the medicine we need - so cosy up and listen anytime you want to invite softness into your life. This practice can be particularly nurturing and supportive in the colder and darker months.

So we'll start this meditation by just finding a really comfortable position with your body,

Just tuning into what your body might feel comfortable to do in this moment.

So maybe that's finding a seated position or laying down,

Ideally creating some length through your spine,

So if you're laying down,

Finding just a gentle tuck of your chin,

Resting your skull to the support beneath you.

If you're seated upright,

You can also take this gentle tuck of the chin,

Nothing too exaggerated,

Just so you start to feel length through the back of your neck.

When you create this long spine,

The breath is able to flow freely in and out of the body.

So once you've found this setup,

Maybe taking some little wiggles through the facial muscles,

Maybe some sighs out the mouth.

Just allowing with every exhale a sense of letting go.

These two words,

Let go,

Are really,

Really powerful for the nervous system to hear.

We tend to hold on to a lot of tension and resistance,

Maybe just in the day to day.

We might be holding on to certain memories,

Just giving yourself permission now,

These next few minutes of meditation,

To simply let go and just start to settle into the present moment.

When you are with the breath,

You can be nowhere but here.

The particular focus of this meditation is going to be accessing yin energy,

Which is the feminine and soft energy that tends to be a little more dominant in the winter months.

So whether you are finding this transition into winter or you're just choosing to access this yin energy,

This will be a perfect meditation to just find that sense of softness and inner nurturing.

Maybe starting to create a sense of softness by softening the little muscles in your face.

Space between your brows relaxes.

It's comfortable,

Allowing the eyes to be closed,

Just feeling that gentle interlace of the eyelashes.

Letting the temples be relaxed,

The cheeks be relaxed.

And as though this softening ripples down through the body,

Softening the sides of your neck and around your jaw.

Feeling the shoulders relax and a softening occur over the front of the chest.

The softening continues to wash through the torso,

Around the pelvis,

Through the limbs.

Just letting the body drop deep into the state of surrender.

Feeling completely supported,

Completely held.

Bringing your awareness to your breath without manipulating the pace or the depth of the breath.

Just become aware,

Just the gentle passage of the inhale and the exhale as it travels in and out of your body.

Just allowing yourself to receive each breath.

Letting go of any sense of forcing or aggression with the breath.

Trusting each breath to come and go in accordance with the natural wisdom of your body.

It helps to allow the tongue to be slightly parted away from the teeth.

Just notice how that smooths the inner passage for the breath.

Creating relaxation all the way down through the abdomen.

Breathing around the pelvis,

All around the reproductive organs and down towards the sitting bones.

Letting all the bones of the body feel heavier.

Truly relaxing into your own inner world.

Feeling this beautiful length through your spine,

The central channel of your body.

Which the energy is travelling up and down all the time.

No need to force.

Just receiving this beautiful current of energy.

This feminine yin energy that we all have the capacity to tap into regardless of our gender.

It is feminine energy that is within us.

This feminine soft energy is also a very powerful creative force.

It teaches us that we do not have to be aggressive or fight with brute force in order to be powerful.

There is a strength in softness.

Relinquishing a little bit of the ego,

A little bit of the shielding.

Actually allowing ourselves to drop some of the intellect and responsibility and trust in our own creative,

Vital,

Feminine energy.

This intuitive space.

Soft,

Warm,

Nurturing space.

You may sense this feminine energy in a certain area in your body.

Perhaps it is just an image or something that encompasses your whole being.

If there is a certain point in the body that you feel this feminine energy really,

Really particularly.

Just start to hone your focus on that space.

Then allow the sense of feminine energy to develop.

Perhaps it starts to expand further out into the distance.

Every moment unfolding.

Unpredictable.

Beautiful.

Just feeling into the softer,

Receptive,

More vulnerable side.

Recognising that sensitivity and vulnerability is indeed a strength.

Continuing to feel that sense of softness deepening in the body.

This in feminine energy is restful.

It is receiving.

It is letting go.

Just being in each moment as it unfolds.

Open.

Heart completely open.

Feeling whatever feelings arise.

As you open your heart,

Your mind will naturally open.

You will be in a receptive state.

Able to receive insights,

Knowings,

Gifts.

Maybe dreams or ideas.

Or just this complete state of softness and surrender.

Yin energy is often related to the evening sky,

Dream time,

The moon.

I like to visualise an infinite night sky.

Full of mysteries and possibilities,

Creation.

All you need to do is rest and nurture yourself.

Gentle and be slow.

Really honour the yin energy within.

Continue to sit with your breath.

Just being present and introspective.

As long as you wish.

Namaste.
