Welcome to this guided meditation for addressing inner criticism and its ties to your shadows.

May you find a quiet and comfortable place where you can sit or lie down,

Allowing your body to fully relax.

As you settle into this space,

Gently close your eyes and turn your attention inward.

Take a deep breath in,

Filling your lungs with fresh air,

And as you exhale,

Let go of any tension or stress that you might be carrying.

Allow yourself to arrive fully in this moment,

Giving yourself permission to pause and connect with your inner world.

Begin to notice the gentle rhythm of your breath,

The natural rise and fall of your chest.

There's no need to change anything,

Simply observe your breath as it flows in and out.

Feel the sensation of the air as it enters your nostrils,

Travels down to your lungs,

And then back out again.

With each breath,

Allow yourself to sink deeper and deeper into relaxation.

Now let's bring awareness to our bodies,

Starting from the top of the head.

Imagine a wave of relaxation slowly descending down,

Softening each part of your body as it goes.

Feel the muscles in your forehead and temples relax.

Allow your eyes to soften,

Your jaw to gently open,

And your neck to release any built up tension.

As this wave of relaxation continues to flow down,

Feel your shoulders dropping away from your ears,

Your chest opening and your breath deepening.

Allow your arms to become heavy,

Resting effortlessly by your sides.

Feel the relaxation flow through your torso,

Softening your belly and releasing any tightness in your back.

Bring your awareness to your hips,

Feeling them settle and relax.

Let this sense of relaxation flow down your legs,

All the way to the tips of your toes.

Your entire body is now filled with a deep sense of calm and ease.

In this state of relaxation,

Recognize that you are in a safe and supportive space.

You are here to gently explore and address any negative self-talk with kindness and compassion.

Remember that you are in control and you can return to this sense of calm and relaxation at any point during this meditation.

Take a few more deep breaths,

Feeling the peace and calmness that envelops you.

Breathing in deeply and breathing out slowly and gently.

As you allow your breath to return to its natural pace,

Gently observe the thoughts that flow through your mind.

Notice if there are any patterns of negative self-talk or critical inner dialogue.

These may be subtle or quite loud,

Just observe them without judgment.

Remember you are in a safe space and it's ok to acknowledge these thoughts.

Think of this inner critic as a part of your shadow self,

Aspects of your psyche that have been suppressed or deemed undesirable.

Understand that everyone has this shadow self and it often speaks in critical negative tones.

Today you are choosing to listen and engage with compassion.

As you hear these critical thoughts,

Ask yourself,

Where do they come from?

Were they internalized from past experiences,

Societal expectations,

Or judgments from others?

Recognize that these negative beliefs are not innate truths,

But rather narratives that have been constructed over time.

Now,

Let's explore the underlying emotions tied to this inner criticism.

Is there fear,

Sadness,

Or insecurity beneath these words?

Allow yourself to feel these emotions,

Understanding that they are valid,

But not defining.

Breathe into them,

And as you exhale,

Imagine releasing their hold on you.

With each breath,

Start to challenge and reframe the negative self-talk.

Replace critical thoughts with words of encouragement and self-love.

Remind yourself of your strengths,

Your resilience,

And your inherent worthiness.

You are not defined by your shadow or the critical thoughts it speaks.

Speak to your inner critic gently,

Acknowledging its presence,

But setting clear boundaries.

You may say,

I hear you,

But I choose not to believe you.

I choose to believe in my strength,

My worth,

And my ability to grow and learn.

Imagine the shadow self becoming lighter,

Less intimidating.

Visualize it integrating into your being,

Not as a source of criticism,

But as a source of strength and resilience.

You are reclaiming your power from the inner critic,

Transforming it into an ally.

Spend a few more moments in this space,

Challenging any lingering negative thoughts.

You are taking an important step towards self-compassion and self-love.

As this meditation draws to an end,

Take a moment to thank the shadow for its presence,

Knowing that it is a part of you,

But not all of you.

Remind yourself that you have the power to choose which parts of yourself you listen to and believe in.

Bring your awareness back to your breath,

Feeling the gentle rise and fall of your chest.

Notice the calmness and stillness that surrounds you.

When you are ready,

Gently open your eyes,

Coming back to the present moment.

Remember,

You are enough,

Just as you are.
