The Divine Journey #5
by Guy Finley
The fifth talk is Four Simple Steps to Spiritual Rebirth. Now, I understand none of this is simple because if it were, literally everyone would do it. Everyone would be changed, and the world that we live in would not be the conflicted place that it is. So, when I say “Four Simple Steps,” I mean that there are some actions that we’re all intended to take, that as we’re present enough to the whole of our life as it’s revealed, those steps are evident. They’re actually built into our discovery.

We're going to continue our divine journey with the fifth talk that is called four simple steps to spiritual rebirth.
Now I understand that in one respect none of this is simple because if it were literally everyone would do it.
Everyone would be changed and the world that we live in would not be the conflicted place that it is.
So when I say four simple steps I mean that there are some actions that we're all intended to take that as we're present enough to the whole of our life as it's revealed those steps are evident.
They're actually built into our discovery.
So let's look at this.
First a little background.
By the fact that everything about her existence is perfectly ordered Mother Nature is choice less.
That means that all creatures from the smallest to the largest from a gnat to a gorilla as it were all the way to a humpback whale all of these creatures serve nature as she demands.
Their individual lives serve to exist and sustain a living planetary matrix greater than themselves.
Now one of the gifts of being human is that in our individual potential that part of it succeeds with great unspeakable power the boundaries of our own animal body which like all natural creations has to serve the general laws it's been created to obey.
So we're looking at a distinction here that this animal part of us this natural part of us serves nature but that at the same time we have the possibility of consciously knowing the existence of another order of ourselves of another body literally that is in but not of our physical form.
Just as an example consider the oak tree.
It is meaning the oak tree is in the acorn and yet its body is timeless relative to the seed from which it emerges.
To see the truth of this principle in life of a simple seed and a tree as an earthly or lower expression of higher laws is more than just promising it's empowering because this exact same law holds true when it comes to the nature of our own consciousness.
Within our present level of being I mean think of it as a seed relative to the tree that rises out of it dwells a timeless level of ourselves that isn't subject to the laws of the natural world.
This higher level of self much like again the tree as compared to its seed this higher level of self is relatively immortal and as such it is created to serve another order of existence.
This possibility that I'm describing points to the whole idea of being born again of achieving nirvana or moksha call it what you will this rebirth the possibility is seeded into us from the very beginning and yet importantly no seed is the flowering it promises unless it's cultivated and nourished and this is precisely where the inner work of the willing aspirant must be brought into play.
Spiritual rebirth is not evolutionary even though the cosmos move and perfects itself to assist as a midwife in the process this second birth is realized only through an act of free will meaning it is not evolutionary rebirth is voluntary and it isn't mandatory it's something that those of us for whom it is true see as a necessity and choose to fulfill that role.
Now in order to nurture our own awakening we must first see the need to let go of those parts of us that at some way in some level we sense simply no longer serve us.
This new kind of self-awareness is the interior seed state as it were it's something that as a revelation allows us to realize we need to outgrow and transcend our former level of self all of us have had that experience where we recognize we're living from something that limits life when we meet it but then we're limited when it comes to trying to drop that part of our self.
These seeds of higher self-knowledge much as we are learning the little parts of us that can begin to perceive this truth turn into new actions as we embrace both.
If we're willing to awaken then we are at the same time willing and ready to be changed by our new relationship with these principles.
So with that in mind consider the following four if you will separate instructions but yet see them as a single seed and the course of action needed for if you will this flowering of a whole new you.
Let these four instructions guide you to an incorruptible kind of consciousness that is as timeless as the greater good from out of which these principles come.
So take a nice deep breath here's the first of these principles of these instructions perhaps you've heard it before but I'll strengthen it.
The first is remember yourself.
What does it mean remember myself?
It means not just to be as present as possible to yourself within yourself in the moment it means to remember that in you already dwells something that knows what happens to you when you go to sleep.
When you unknowingly hand yourself over to some ambition or pleasure seeking or power mongering or whatever that part may be that promises if you follow it you will be released from whatever pain you're in to remember yourself is to remember that that part of you always lies.
It promises a freedom it can never deliver.
So to remember yourself is to regain the whole of your attention in the moment when some part of your mind wants to take your attention and place it on a promise that never succeeds.
The second of these principles receive and accept whatever is revealed as the gift that it is.
Receive and accept whatever is revealed the gift that it is.
What does that mean?
It means that in this moment where I'm remembering myself present to myself I am for sure going to see parts of myself that I never knew were there before because I've literally decided to part ways with them.
And as I become aware of these parts of myself I have to understand that that awareness is not the same as being condemned by what I have become aware of rather it is the first true separation as the wheat from the chaff from a part of myself that promises to complete me but that never can.
So understand there is no such thing as a bad fact for any man or woman who seeks the divine path the divine life.
Third,
Particularly referring to this idea of no such thing as a bad fact,
Release yourself from any moment where you suddenly feel yourself resisting what you've seen.
To release yourself means don't judge yourself.
Don't allow that mind that has finally been caught if you will trying to bring you into some kind of consideration that promises to end the conflict.
When you see all of that don't justify what it is that you've seen just remain seeing quietly don't console yourself rather release yourself from that part of you that is always trying to console you whenever you actually see that it is part of the conflict release yourself don't judge justify blame or console yourself.
And last of the four and maybe the most important and consequently the most difficult endure yourself.
Never forget the following I can't tell you how important it is to at least consider this there are two kinds of suffering one we're very familiar with that's born out of not wanting to see or to be what life reveals to us about our nature in that moment.
That kind of suffering is useless it is unconscious suffering and it serves only to reincarnate a level of consciousness that always rejects unwanted revelations about itself.
The other kind of suffering is the conscious sacrifice of that nature.
It is born out of first becoming aware of that consciousness and then agreeing to let go of who and what we have been not just leading up to that moment but of everything that wants to make something out of us because of what we don't want to be or see.
If we will use this new kind of conscious suffering it is the same as the birth of a new and timeless order of understanding that comes from a level of being that can't be made a captive of anything let alone resisting or judging ourselves or others.
Lastly spiritually speaking all of our relationships serve one purpose and that purpose as we've been describing is self-knowledge.
Self-knowledge serves one purpose and that is an awakening to the truth of ourselves and that awakening to the truth of ourselves it serves one purpose and that is to help us die to ourselves because this dying to ourselves this letting go of ourselves in the end also serves one purpose and that is what?
Rebirth and rebirth is the purpose and the fulfillment of all our relationships all at once.
Take all of this in let it sink in listen to it again and then gradually as you can and are willing to begin to consciously suffer that which has been unconsciously causing you to be in conflict with life and I might add keeping you from realizing the freedom you're intended to have in this life while you live.
