If you're ready let's take the second leg in this divine journey that we're talking about and I've entitled this particular talk,
Give Yourself the Greatest Prize This World Has to Offer,
And you'll understand why I gave it that title in just a few moments.
The crowning moment of any species,
The culmination of its possibilities,
Can't be just its ability to adapt and survive.
We know that much.
Natural history demonstrates that entire populations peak and are then terminated whenever Mother Nature decides that's the end.
The great book of life simply closes out one chapter of creation after another,
At least once it no longer serves the need for which it was originally created.
And nothing can resist these decisions which are reached in a higher order of reality than the one or all of those that are acted upon by it.
To the casual eye,
The extinction of a species for whatever reason seems like it takes a very long time.
But a closer look at this process tells another story.
Our scale of time is skewed by the short span of life that each of us is allotted on this earth.
In truth,
Compared to the lifespan of,
Say,
Our planet or an entire species,
Let alone an individual within it,
Basically everything can vanish virtually overnight.
When we view life through this kind of broader sweeping perspective,
It may be hard to see how such a grand scale of life has anything to do with our individual lives.
But let's examine these ideas and make them,
If we can,
As personal and specific to our own life as possible.
For instance,
Of what use is our endless struggle to adapt and even achieve some of the more common culturally valued prizes,
Knowing as all of us do,
That nothing we can ever possess has the power to stave off our own inevitable passing.
The following quotation that I just love is from Vernon Howard,
A great 20th century mystic,
That really not only helps to put this idea that we're looking at right now into proper perspective for us,
But as we'll see it also hints at a far more appealing possibility at the same time.
Take a nice deep breath.
Let this sink in as deeply as it possibly can.
He said,
It is wise to seek immortality,
For time defeats all other ambitions.
I remember the first time I heard that I was with a small group of students that were working with him,
And I just knew that he was alluding to something that required my full attention,
Because obviously everything that we do,
Or I should say conversely,
Nothing we do that we win from this world we can take with us.
But apparently there is another order of life,
Another order of ourself that we can enter into that allows us to have the best of both worlds,
But never fear losing what we have won in time on this planet.
So true spiritual gems like the one he spoke,
They're scattered and we all know it if we're students throughout time.
They're found mostly in the forgotten treasure troves of authentic sacred writings.
In the beautiful light they reflect is a promise that you can feel if you're attentive enough,
That is as welcome and timeless as is our need to be reminded of it.
I'll encapsulate it if you will.
Within each of us already lives a higher order of being,
An immortal spirit that neither time nor circumstance can bring to an end.
Seated as it were at the center of each of us,
Lies buried a kind of celestial seed and buried there since the beginning of time I might add.
But this divine gift must be awakened in this lifetime before its fruit can be realized.
For it alone contains life's greatest prize,
Victory over death.
A conscious connection to a vine everlasting that never dies.
I assure you this is true and the expression of this fruition is inseparable from our freedom from everything that we fear including death.
Even as our freedom from death is the same as finally fulfilling our highest individual possibilities.
The true purpose for let's say in this instance the incarnation of Christ or of any authentic saint,
Prophet or sage regardless of his or her place and time of birth.
That purpose has a single reason that we can express through two phases.
First it is their life and all that they say and do to remind us of our lost heritage.
We are the children of a celestial being and within us dwells the seed of an immortal self.
And second upon awakening to this presently lost or more accurately spoken forgotten heritage to accept the responsibility that comes with that remembrance.
Which is what?
To use our lives to help manifest the will of heaven on earth so that these two planes of existence and their beings may be reconciled and perfected accordingly.
The higher order of unconditional love and compassion as evidenced by the selfless lives of these same saints and sages acts as herald of a heaven to come.
It proves the existence of a higher order of being awakened in them but that still sleeps in us.
As such the knowledge they disseminate is designed to help us awaken this celestial consciousness that lives within us much as sunlight acts on a dormant seed stirring it to open.
All true spiritual masters are in concert when it comes to this last vital revelation.
It is perhaps the greatest spiritual secret on this earth.
For any flower to live the seed of its origin must die.
It is a law.
The ladder must pass before the former can prosper and reveal its latent potential.
Virtually all scripture east and west affirms this sacred teaching as perhaps best expressed for those in the West by Christ who said,
Verily I say unto you except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die it abideth alone but if it die it bringeth forth much fruit.
The hidden meaning of this oft quoted but almost never understood phrase can be summarized as follow.
The corn of wheat in this passage represents the spiritually asleep unawakened human being.
The seed in both instances is just the first stage of its being.
It is a herald of possibilities yet to be realized.
As such as is true with any seed physical or spiritual if it doesn't succeed with its ordained task or somehow rejects its natural role the very reason for its existence is rendered null and void.
We hold each of us within us a sublime seed richly impregnated with divine possibilities.
It is our greatest gift.
Within it lives the promise of an immortal self.
A celestial citizenship if you will in a world that's outside the prison and pain inherent in passing time.
But again as is true of all seeds regardless of their nature each must find the right conditions and nourishment needed for it to flourish.
Once accomplished almost nothing can stop this seed from breaking free and stepping out of its confining husk.
In that instant it is reborn into a new form.
It enters into the next level of its own being and the journey the divine journey begins anew.
Take your time with each of these ideas with each talk.
Why?
Because just as you would never rush through a field of wildflowers because you know that everywhere or anywhere you look there awaits something for you to see that's more breathtaking more inspiring than the moment before.
So as you listen to the new ideas in this special audio course listen closely to the subsequent stirrings of your own heart.
Listen as closely as you would to a friend that you know wants to tell you something about yourself that you don't just need to hear but that you want to hear because of the positive impact it will make on your life.
And one last thought before we close this second part of the divine journey.
Give yourself freely to what you are given to feel in this and in all of the talks that follow.
If you do that you cannot fail to reach and realize the innermost source of yourself the immortal self.
I look forward to the time we're going to spend together in these studies and our next topic is called give yourself the greatest prize this world has to offer.

Thank you, Guy, for this series. I'll continue to listen with open mind and heart. "Coincidentally," a friend suggested reading Richard Rohr's "The Universal Christ," which I started reading yesterday. I like how you present ideas that can be difficult to comprehend. 💝🙏
