Hi guys,

This is Rose with Grow with the Flow.

That's the company that I started and it's a personal growth business that my best friend and I began last year.

And it's all about flowing into alignment.

It's all about aligning with your higher purpose and digging into your limiting beliefs and changing those beliefs to create your dream reality.

And we do that through workshops and through one on one coaching sessions.

But I decided to start this podcast or uploading these talks because I feel so many little insights that come to me on the daily and I just wanted to express that and share that with people.

And this is,

You know,

Insight Timer is such a great platform to do that because it's so many like minded people.

So that's my little intro.

And today's topic is going to be all about playing offense or defense in life.

And it's really funny how this came to me because I was playing chess,

Which I really like to do the board game.

And I've been playing lately.

And what I really noticed was that I kept winning.

And the reason why I kept winning was because I was always playing offense.

I was always going forward and attacking,

So to speak,

The other player and the other player had no opportunity to come on my side of the board because the whole time they were worried about my pieces and they were making moves to retract and chase me around the board instead of making their own moves to come forward.

And so this is such a beautiful analogy to life.

And it really comes down to if we're playing offense in life or for playing defensive life.

So this is our beliefs.

Are we playing offense or defense in our beliefs?

And of course,

Our beliefs create our actions in life that our actions create our reality.

So it's a chain of events.

So what I mean by offense are things like,

Are you feeling empowered?

Are you trusting?

Are you doing things in your life out of fun and out of abundance and out of giving and overwhelming amounts of joy?

Are you doing things out of opportunity?

Looking at things as opportunities or are you looking at things as upsets,

As threats?

That would be defense.

So these are all the things of offense.

And then defense,

Like I just said,

Is looking at things like an upset.

It's like a threat.

Things are a setback in life.

You're doubting yourself capability and you're taking action because you have to rather than because it's fun and because something great is going to come of it.

And this happens all the time.

We basically get to make this decision and going back to chess in chess,

Like in life,

If you are taking action because you're worried about what will happen if you don't take that action,

If you're taking action because you feel like you have to protect yourself and you feel like bad things are going to happen and you're worried and you're on the defense.

You cannot have energy to be on offense.

So those of you who know how to play chess,

You know that you only get one move at a time.

Right?

So this basically means you can only focus on one thing at a time.

And with each move,

You can either decide,

Are you going to go towards the other player?

Are you going to take a big step in life?

Are you going to take a step forward?

Are you going to expand?

Or are you going to defend yourself?

Defending yourself usually is taking a step back in chess.

You're usually chasing the other player around the board to get their piece.

And you can only focus on one at a time.

You can only have one move.

Is your move going forward?

Is your move going backward?

This is like our focus.

So in life,

Are my beliefs,

Are my actions that I'm taking,

Are they going forward?

Are they expansion?

Are they doing,

Am I doing these things out of fun and abundance?

Or am I doing these things to protect myself?

We can only focus on one at a time.

Our focus cannot be at both.

And action is either rooted in empowerment or in victimization and worrying.

So this is where I was like,

Aha chess,

This concept makes so much sense in life.

So it's so important to start thinking about what your actions and what your beliefs are rooted in.

So ask yourself,

Is this action based out of defense?

Am I playing defense by doing this action?

Or am I playing offense by doing this action?

And that answer will give you such a clear indication on whether,

I don't want to say whether you should be doing it or not,

But whether it's going to benefit you.

Because if you are taking actions out of defense,

You cannot advance in life.

If you are taking action out of expansion,

That is how you advance in life.

Like I just said,

You cannot do both at once.

And action is either rooted in one or the other.

So once you get to this place of asking yourself the question,

You can understand why you are taking action.

And you can start to take a different action and play offense in life.

It doesn't need that the worry that the negative things are going to disappear.

Right.

It's not ignoring them.

What it's doing,

It's not ignoring them and playing a blind side to them and being arrogant that they're not there.

What it really is,

Is focusing your attention on solving the problem,

Which is not even a problem in the beginning,

But on expansion really,

On knowing that it's a setup,

Let's say.

And working with that energy and having your focus be on that instead of focusing on the bad,

The worry,

The threat.

And that is life changing.

That is absolutely life changing.

And that is how you can step forward in life is by putting your energy in the place that is full of expansion.

Because when you're in that energy,

You will feel incredible.

And there's endless opportunity.

If you're in the defense,

There's no opportunity.

There's lack,

There's fatigue.

And there's shutting down because if you're not expanding,

You're coming to a halt.

So I encourage you to think about a decision that you have made lately and ask yourself,

Did I take this action out of defense or offense?

Did I take it because I think good will come of it?

Or did I take it because I'm scared because I'm scared of what will happen if I don't take it?

And that right there is your answer.
