Rest and Release Matthew 11:28-30
by Ambe Long
Ambe Long of 'Gospel Talk' leads this Christian Meditation and contemplation. Here we focus on Rest and Release; as it is written in Matthew 11: 28-30 "Take My yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and my burden is light". Meditate and contemplate with Ambe; understand how this passage will apply to your own personal journey. Release your burdens, troubles and issues as Christ willingly receives them. Jesus has more than enough strength to carry our tribulations for us. In His glorious mercy He gives us His easy yoke of peaceful light, as we are filled with His supernatural presence.

Good morning brothers and sisters.
You are Ambie from Gospel Talk and I want to lead you on a meditation today with the topic of rest.
And what better Bible verse to choose than Matthew 11 28 30.
Come to me all who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and lonely in heart and you will find rest for your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
For those who are wrestling with rest whether it be emotional,
Physical,
Spiritual there are so many versions of unrest.
It could be with your heart wrestling with sin.
It could be you wrestling with your church,
Religious leaders and ideals.
It could be physical,
It could be in physical pain and wonder why am I not healed yet.
You know these are all valid reasons to feel unrest.
But if we take away the doubt and put in place that yes we will suffer on this planet.
I really believe this planet is full of beauty and suffering and that Christ came here our Lord and Saviour who is God in the flesh to understand what that suffering meant and to live it out spotlessly so that he could empathise and have compassion for the things we go through.
We are not led by feeling we know that he tells us not to be led by feelings because they could take us anywhere in which way they want.
But with the love of Christ and his teachings he shows us a way that no matter the circumstance no matter what is going on that he is the light of the world that he is our peace that he fills our heart with joy and wonder.
And things can be beyond comprehension sometimes personally or outwardly in political conflict,
Neighbours fighting neighbours,
Our minds fighting our thoughts whatever the topic or the issue he tells us quite clearly Christ tells us that he is the light.
Now a yoke is a heavy piece of wood that was put over oxen to drag a plough through a field so it's hard work and so he is telling us to give him our yoke so whatever that burden may be when they are countless that we hand that to him and in its place we take his yoke of light.
Now physically the outward text would suggest that that yoke is literally light in weight and the subtext tells us that the light is his light,
Spiritual light that is beyond understanding and like little children it just says in the passage previous to this one we are to be like children that we are innocent and able to have that beautiful belief in him as his children rather than these bitter religious people that wrestle with everything and will never really quite grasp what this light means.
It's similar when we overthink things you know when we overthink things they become anxious thoughts Christ doesn't want us to do that I mean of course he wants us to go through the Bible old and new testament and to confirm that he is the saviour and everything points to that direction and the physical accounts of when he was here by many witnesses of his life here on earth and then the resurrection not just from the people in the Bible but also from historians we know this to be fact.
So with this introduction we will now relax into meditation with that beautiful passage that is very well known I'm glad it's well known because it's relevant to the Bible relevant especially relevant to today so I'll read it again one more time before we get into our relaxation state and again it's Matthew if you have your Bibles 11 28 to 30 come to me all who labour and heavy low and and are heavy laden and I will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light beautiful take your breath so good to have you here so glad that you can be a part of this meditation so get yourself comfortable get yourself comfortable whether you're lying down or sitting up if it's cold grab a blanket make yourself warm if it's hot just take your shoes off cool down a little have some water with you if you're sitting up sit in an upright position with your hands on your thighs or on the chair arms and if you're lying down just make yourself your spine flat a little support to your head just as long as you're comfortable and can remain in that position for a little while so we'll start with our feet squeezing your toes really tightly and then release same with your feet around your ankles squeeze them in and release and as you're doing this I'd like you to breathe in a deep breath into your belly and then hold and then release and continue to breathe in that fashion as we go through this part of the meditation we're going up to our calves and hold them in tightly and release our knees the backs of our knees and release oh yes that's good and going up to our thighs squeeze your thighs in tightly and release up to your buttocks the muscles in your buttocks retain a lot of tension so really squeeze them in tightly and release your lower back coccyx area your lower back coccyx area hold that in just and release that area too into the stomach pull in those areas into your tummy hold hold hold and release we're going to go up to our shoulders pull them in tightly really tightly the shoulder blade area just pull them in tight and release ah lovely lovely breath there we'll go to our hands hold your hands in tightly squeeze them into a fist and release turn your hands in a clockwise position and anti-clockwise position and clockwise once more and release and your forearms tighten them up release elbows again hey Elise and your upper arms that's it yeah that's really good and release and then we're going to go to our necks hold that in tight a little bit longer breathing and release and then we're going to go up to our head squeeze your eyes tightly and your ears in there too and release your nose squeeze up your nose and release press your lips awesome and release that's fantastic and your tongue if you get your tongue you can put it onto the top of your mouth the top of your mouth and squeeze it up there too that's a muscle one we should use wisely and release awesome awesome okay holy spirit please fill me to do your good work as we go through this meditation amen we ask that we are given your holy holy peace lord as jesus says in matthew 11 28 to 30 come to me all who labor and a heavy laden and i will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn from me for i am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light breathe in breathe out breathe out breathe out i want you to think of an area in your life what areas in your life a couple one or two all the whole shebang reflect upon what that burden or burdens are physical burden financial burden depression mental anguish spiritual unrest distrust conflict conflict outward or inward whatever you're wrestling with i'm going to be quiet for a few moments because i'd like you to really ponder and meditate with the lord about the root causes or cause of these burdens remember some burdens have come by choice some have been thrown to us left of center some a spiritual attack whatever the root cause is i want you to reflect upon that and where if any fear is for where there is fear there is no love so we're going to flip that over so there's only love the burden of self-worth whether we think we're good enough there are so many different ways to carry a burden the burden of a very unwell child there are just so many different kinds of burdens the burden of loneliness the burden of not understanding that people will fail us sometimes but christ will always be there as you like whichever burden whether the ones i've mentioned or the ones that you've heard about whichever burden whether the ones i've mentioned or others please in this moment reflect i'll be silent for five minutes and when we come back we're going to hand them to jesus okay now the burden or burdens that you have i want you to see jesus there in front of you in your quiet place in your thin place places a place that you and christ are able to communicate most clearly i want you to hand this burden or burdens to him as his hands are outstretched he's looking at you you're safe and safe and loved he's looking at you with a smile of a loving father wanting to take your burdens because he can easily exchange them for his light so hand those burdens to him and as you do or as we do we will rebuke those burdens in the name of jesus and ask that he crushes them under his foot and cast them into the pits of hell where they belong and he can deal with them on judgment day the burdens not you because he is going to give you and he is giving you his beautiful radiant peaceful glorious gracious merciful most loving awesome light so receive that gift really allow that to permeate every part of your body and to really enter your heart that space it needs filling allow his light to fill that those areas the light has now replaced anything that was troubling you and this glorious light is now just beaming through every part and part of your body as mind and spirit just about to soak in and radiate because what we receive now we can share i feel so blessed you're a blessing remain blessed allow his light to shift all areas in your life for the better you are an amazing human being you're amusing amusing and wonderful lovely loving soul and his holy spirit is within you to radiate and to do his good works for you have a purpose you're built with a beautiful purpose whatever that is whatever that is you are loved let's love jesus with all our hearts so grateful for him and i'm grateful for you i extend a loving hug gentle hug to you my brothers and sisters we will finish off this meditation take a deep breath in hold it breathe out count to three so one breathe in breathe out just move your body around a little bit around two just be aware of your surroundings hear the sounds around you three open your eyes wide awake free in the light of christ god bless you may his face shine upon you and may his peace radiate from you and to you within and without in every cell of your being may his love and light shine god bless you and i pray that you are able to move forward and you can come back here and do this again as well if you require any time and i pray that this meditation really helps heal the areas that you require and come back again because i love you because what christ loves you even more christ loves you even more that's pretty amazing god bless you you
