Today we have a special Halloween episode.

Ooh.

It doesn't matter if it sucks,

As long as you're committed.

Which is probably what's going to happen with this show.

We are committed.

So we like to,

You know,

Our episodes are usually evergreen,

Because they're just about a subject.

Yeah.

You know,

Like,

Forgiveness or happiness or whatever it is that we talk about.

But we're really going for it today.

This episode has a shelf life of probably today.

Today.

And then maybe next Halloween.

Well,

Yeah,

But if it's interesting enough,

People will just get so much out of it that they'll listen to it constantly.

So we've got the spirits behind us.

You know,

We're actually recording a Halloween special on Halloween Day.

It's creepy.

And you might even be able to listen to this today.

That's the goal.

So,

Do you do anything for Halloween?

Um,

No.

No?

No,

Because I mean,

I don't know.

Like,

Rhode Island,

It's huge.

It's huge in Rhode Island.

Is it a big difference between them?

Yes,

I think so.

I mean.

Was Massachusetts similar?

I don't remember it being like this,

Or Florida.

I don't remember it being like it is in Rhode Island.

People go insane over Halloween.

They just love getting dressed up,

And they get into the spirit of it a lot more than any other place I've lived.

Yeah.

I've seen a big.

.

.

It seems that way to me,

Anyway.

Right.

So,

Yeah,

It's a big difference.

Everybody gets into it.

But,

Yeah,

Growing up in Mass and stuff,

You know,

Once I hit like,

Whatever,

14 or something,

I wasn't really getting dressed up,

And,

You know,

We'd run around causing trouble Halloween night.

But,

You know,

So since I don't cause trouble,

I don't really.

.

.

Well,

In a normal sense of the word.

Now,

You don't cause trouble now.

I don't cause trouble now,

And I haven't for a number of years.

Then,

Really,

There's nothing left.

Is it three years?

Yeah.

Well,

That's kind of how it went.

It's okay.

You dress up and get candy,

And then you go out and cause trouble,

And then when Mass stopped,

There was kind of nothing to replace it.

Right.

I've been to a couple Halloween parties in my day,

In my adulthood,

But not that many.

I was never a huge fan of Halloween.

Like,

I liked it when I was really little,

But I think that I was a pretty young age when I just was kind of like,

I don't want to get dressed up.

That surprises me because you're so into theater and portraying different characters.

I've tried to figure out what's going on in Rhode Island,

Like why people like it so much,

And I thought that maybe it has something to do with that.

Like,

People enjoy the act of portraying a different person for a day.

Right.

Well,

The only other place that I've lived is New York City for a little while.

New York City?

It was obviously a lot more intense of a Halloween scene.

Yeah,

Everything sounds intense.

Everyone at the school,

Yeah.

I think that Dave and I were the only two people that I know of that didn't go down to the village Halloween parade when we were there for that.

But yeah,

Halloween is a huge deal around here,

And I guess I've just never known any different.

Yeah.

But I got like,

I don't know.

I was like,

I have a baseball jersey on,

This is my costume.

Yeah,

That's how I was.

Ben,

You wore that to school three days ago.

I don't care.

I'm no Mark Garcia Parra.

That's who I am this year.

Yeah,

That's kind of how I used to dress up.

I'd dress up like a pirate and stuff because it was easy.

Find a bandana around the house and go spend a buck fifty on an eye patch and you're in.

You know,

Stuff like that.

But I think,

Yeah,

I mean,

I don't really get into the dressing up.

And then because of the studio and my home being like in a business center,

I don't have kids coming trick or treating here,

So I don't do that.

But I think actually my son's going to go do something with his friends this afternoon,

Which should be good.

Does he like Halloween?

Nah,

He's not really too big into it.

No.

But anyway,

That's Halloween.

That's the traditional trick or treating aspect of Halloween.

Let's get into the spiritual aspect of Halloween.

Absolutely.

So what is.

.

.

Let's talk about.

.

.

Since it's Halloween,

Let's just dive right into it and talk about what your thoughts are on spirits and ghostly figures,

Apparitions,

Whatever it is.

Well,

I think that my belief is that where.

.

.

And you can find things that point to this in a lot of spiritual texts.

A lot of sages have talked about it and stuff that basically heaven or another dimension is right here where we are.

So when the Bible talks about a new heaven and a new earth,

It's not that heaven is a place up in the sky.

It's just that it's basically vibrating at a different rate,

Frequency,

Than we are.

So it's not that they're in a different physical location.

It's just that they're living in a different reality because there's different things.

It's vibrating at a different rate there.

So the fact that.

.

.

So basically,

My belief is that when people pass on,

Their soul lives on,

On the other side.

And on the other side is just a higher vibrating reality than what is here.

So that we can tap into that every now and then and back and forth doesn't surprise me.

I have mediums and psychics that come here and do readings all the time.

So they get messages from the other side.

So I believe in all that stuff.

Okay.

I'm not surprised that you said that.

Yeah.

I think the biggest thing,

And I just want to mention this now because I don't want the podcast to go on and me not mention it,

Is one of the biggest things that I've gotten over the years with people who have believed they've had interactions with the ghosts and spirits and people who have passed on from the other side is that they'll get.

.

.

Some people love it and find it very comforting and interesting and all that stuff.

Some people,

It scares them.

They're not used to it.

They don't like it.

And it can be annoying if they try to interact with you in the middle of the night when you're trying to sleep.

So one of the reasons for that is because our minds slow down.

We're going 90 miles an hour all the time consciously.

So for us to be still and be able to connect with something at a different vibrational rate than us,

It's probably not going to happen in the middle of the day when you're running around with the 13 things you need to do.

So when your mind and your consciousness slows down enough in the middle of the night,

Then they might be able to reach you.

So that's oftentimes one of the reasons why we'll wake up in the middle of the night with what people think is a spirit or a ghost.

So what I wanted to mention is that I have had a number of people over the years come to me with that question.

They're like,

It's really bothering me.

And we have to remember,

We have free will.

And free will gives us dominion over our reality.

It has to.

It has to even override spiritual reality.

Because otherwise.

.

.

It's not free will.

Right,

It's not free will.

I mean,

If spirit could just come in and do whatever it wanted to us,

Or teach us the truth about our reality,

We wouldn't have all these problems here.

We need to choose to connect to that.

So we can also choose to disconnect from that.

So if somebody's getting woken up in the middle of the night by a ghost or a spirit or something,

You can tell them to cut it out.

It's simple as that.

You claim dominion over your space.

And then sometimes people will go,

They don't really know how to interact with something new like that,

So they'll be like,

Well,

You know,

I'm trying to get some sleep,

So if you don't mind,

Maybe wait to another time.

Spirit on the other side doesn't have an ego.

You're not going to hurt its feelings.

We don't need to cakewalk around this stuff.

Just tell them,

Hey,

No,

Don't wake me up.

This isn't okay.

I need to get my sleep,

And it's not allowed.

You cannot do this anymore,

Period.

And be firm and just say no,

This is not acceptable.

And it'll stop.

It's really that simple,

And I've had a lot of people do that over the years.

Have you ever had any personal experiences?

Spirits?

Vague ones,

But I've never really seen,

You know,

Like what somebody would call a ghost.

I mean,

When I go into meditation,

I've connected with different things and gotten messages,

And when I'm doing reiki with people,

I've connected with different energies and,

I mean,

Had like.

.

.

I've had conversations with Jesus when I was in a reiki session,

So that's kind of wild.

So I don't,

You know,

I guess people wouldn't normally think of that as me talking to a ghost,

But I mean,

Technically,

He's on the other side,

So.

.

.

I wish that this was an audio medium only so that people could see my facial reactions to that story.

Yeah,

It's like that,

Huh?

Okay.

You did what?

I've connected to a lot of different energies.

That's intense.

Jesus,

Mother Mary,

And a lot of different ones.

When Mother Mary comes to me,

She usually speaks words of wisdom.

She always speaks words of wisdom.

Let it be.

Usually,

Let it be.

So is this another spot for a song?

You say something nice and I just hit it away.

Dave,

The last ten minutes is just going to be a thriller.

When I was a kid,

There was a ghost in my best friend's room,

Which I kind of saw some experiences with that.

I guess there was a little boy that lived in that house before they had moved in that had died in a laundry chute that was in my friend's closet.

So things would happen in that closet.

The closet door would always be open.

We'd shut it when we were leaving and stuff,

And put chairs up against it and stuff,

And we'd come home and it'd be open.

One time he lost his wallet.

I think it was four or five days,

Maybe a week later or something,

His mother had folded all his laundry.

It was sitting in a stack,

And he went to put it away or put a pair of jeans on or something.

The wallet was in the pocket of the jeans,

And it hadn't gone through the wash.

Everything was perfect.

It was like,

Where the heck did that happen?

Mainly it was just seeing the door open all the time.

We used to experiment with it.

We'd go somewhere with his family.

This was four houses down the street from me,

So we were together constantly.

We'd make a big,

Oh,

We're going to really try it this time,

And let's prop a door underneath the handle.

The whole family,

The only people who had access to the house,

Would go.

Then my friend had a back door right by his bedroom,

So we'd go in that back door so nobody beat us into the house.

Little kids messing around with that.

We'd open it up,

And sure enough,

That closet door would be open.

The chair would be moved.

When I was in school in New York,

Like I said earlier,

Some weird stuff.

The building was an old hotel that in the 70s or early 80s,

They had transformed into a residency for mentally unstable people,

Mentally challenged people.

There's always a story like that for a good ghost story.

That's like the setting.

Then in the early 2000s or 90s,

The school bought the building,

But there were tenants that were still alive that they could not legally kick out.

Our dorms,

On the wing that I was on the fourth floor,

Directly next to me and directly across from me were two elderly people who before the 80s were in a mental hospital and now are living in this hotel in New York.

My RA told me when we moved in that I had a really weird room.

I was like,

Alright man.

So my Red Sox hat would go missing a lot.

Well yeah,

It was in New York,

So they liked the Yankees.

My Red Sox hat would go missing a lot.

I would go to sleep on a fully made bed and wake up on just a mattress.

My sheets were in a nice little pile over on the side.

There was a pipe that oozed at just one point in the night.

Every night it would sweat,

But it didn't make any sense.

It smelled really weird.

Well there you go.

There was a bunch of stuff like this and I kept asking.

He was like,

Talk to Cynthia,

Whatever her name was downstairs,

The lady downstairs who was the front desk lady.

I was like,

Hey I'm in room 433 and weird stuff keeps happening and my RA told me to talk to you.

She's like,

Oh you're in Johnny's room.

I'm like,

What?

She was like,

There was a little boy that lived here that his parents couldn't take care of him anymore so they sent him here.

He was mischievous and disturbed.

He was a big Yankees fan.

I don't remember what the details were about the baseball.

I know that he loved baseball.

I don't know if he was a Yankees fan or if he actually liked the Red Sox.

I can't remember the details.

She was just like,

Yeah he likes to mess with people.

He died tragically.

My window faced the street.

She was like,

Yeah he jumped out the window one day.

I still think that my RA had my room key.

It was just messing with me.

But it was very weird.

I would walk in one day and the room was the size of a small bathroom.

That's how big the dorm was.

It was just a solo dorm,

Just me.

I maybe had like 15 things in there.

So when my hat was missing,

It was a big deal where it could have gone.

So do you believe in ghosts,

Ben?

What are your thoughts?

I don't not believe in ghosts.

I don't think that I've ever actually had an experience.

I think that someone was messing with me.

So somebody snuck in in the middle of the night and somehow unmade the bed that you were sleeping on.

Yeah,

Because I think that he was trying to mess with me.

I think that that's what it was.

Well I could see the hat thing.

I was very creeped out by it.

I think that's the hat thing.

But I'm not sure how he could make a pipe sweat and somehow unmake a bed underneath.

Okay,

It could have been just the plumbing.

But how could they unmake a bed underneath you?

I don't know,

Man.

I don't know.

Are you that heavy a sleeper?

Yes,

I am.

But I don't know.

Okay,

So I grew up very.

.

.

I still identify as a Christian,

Baptist,

Always believed that there was an afterlife.

So ghosts always just made sense.

Why wouldn't there be?

Isn't that interesting?

Because a lot in the.

.

.

If you talk about psychics and stuff that supposedly can connect to the other side and talk to spirits,

But if you bring that into the religion,

Generally they're like,

Oh no,

That's not true,

That's bad,

Don't.

.

.

Yeah,

I definitely don't speak for my church.

I don't want to run away from.

.

.

But it's true though,

Because if you believe in what the religion teaches,

Why wouldn't there be ghosts?

Why wouldn't there be spirits?

Why wouldn't you be able to communicate with them?

I'm sure they have a reason that I'm just unaware of.

Probably.

I'm sure that Catholics have a reason for why there's no ghosts and why.

.

.

There might be,

But you have to pay a fee to talk to them.

That's not Scientology.

What's the difference?

I apologize.

Hey man,

That's up to you.

My great grandfather lived with my aunt and uncle right before he died.

He was in his 90s,

And he bought them a dishwasher before he died.

And starting the night of his funeral,

The dishwasher would come on at midnight every night.

Wow.

And they got it checked,

And they said that there was some faulty wiring,

And they fixed it,

And it still happened.

But I was really little.

So it didn't really happen.

No,

I'm sure.

Everybody swears that it happened.

That's what's funny to me.

If you went around and you came up.

.

.

This has to do with ghosts and a lot of other spiritual things.

When you talk about spirituality,

Generally people go,

Yeah,

But.

.

.

I was really young.

Or,

Yeah,

But.

.

.

I wasn't feeling good at the time.

Yeah,

But.

.

.

It could have been this.

Yeah,

But.

.

.

It could have been that.

And we find ways to just sweep away all things that we have this evidence to support.

But then we lean on science,

And we go,

Well,

Science?

You can only believe in what you can see and touch and feel.

So we look at science,

And we go,

Oh,

Okay,

So the world is flat.

Because that's what science told us years ago.

Oh,

No?

It's round?

Okay,

Well,

You know,

Tables and rocks and steel are solid.

Well,

No,

They're just moving,

Vibrating cells.

Oh,

Well,

Okay,

So we can't believe.

.

.

It's countless how many things that science proved to be true in the past.

And then as science moves on,

They go,

Oh,

Whoops,

My bad.

That's not actually true.

But that we'll believe in.

But the things that we feel and experience in different ways,

If we can't see it,

We tend to rationalize it away.

So it's like,

You know,

People like,

Oh,

All this stuff doesn't.

.

.

Like,

There is no God.

Some people will be like,

Oh,

There is no God.

And you can't see it,

So I'm not going to believe in it.

It's like,

Okay,

Well,

What about love?

Have you experienced love?

You can't see it,

You know,

But you can experience it.

You can feel it.

So how come you can believe in love,

But you can't believe in a God that you can feel,

But you can't touch?

You know,

You can experience it.

Many people have.

But we'll rationalize all that stuff away.

That's something.

.

.

And it kind of goes to prove our perception is our reality.

You know,

Whatever we choose to believe in,

Where is going to be our reality?

I mean,

I lived a long period of time without believing what I believe in now.

You know,

And even the things that I believe in now,

I really try to focus on core things and believe in the core things that are like what I call spiritual truths,

Because spiritual truths,

If they're really true,

Then they're never going to change.

So I try to focus on those and then kind of how they branch out and manifest into this reality,

I kind of hold on too loosely,

Because that stuff can change,

Because everything is generally changing in the realm that we're in,

You know?

But it's that it's our choice,

You know?

It's our choice what to believe in.

And I think if somebody goes through their life and goes,

You know what,

There's no ghosts,

There's no spirits,

And that stuff doesn't exist,

That's fine,

You know?

That's their opinion.

They get to live like that.

My opinion is,

Yeah,

There are things on the other side,

And we can interact with them on a certain level,

But we have to be open to it,

And we have to be able to slow ourselves down and calm ourselves down enough,

Well,

Most of us need to,

To be able to engage that part of ourselves that can actually connect to the other side.

And then psychics,

I think,

Are just people who have a natural affinity to it.

You know,

Some people can play sports well,

Some people can write well,

Some people can sing well,

You know,

Some people can connect to spirit well.

It's just,

You know,

It's just more on the surface for them.

And the rest of us just,

We have the ability,

We just need to cultivate it,

That's all.

I'm going to still side on the fence,

On the side of the fence that is skeptical.

Yeah.

Because I have to.

I mean,

I don't have to,

I feel like I have to at the moment.

Well,

That's where you are right now,

And there's nothing wrong with that.

You know,

Like I said,

I've never thought,

In my entire life,

I've never thought like,

That's definitely not true.

Yeah.

But I also am like,

I'm not going to worry about it.

Yeah,

Then really,

That's not that bad of a place to be.

I mean,

Really compared to some people,

Because some people are just,

You know,

They get all caught up in it.

And I mean,

Really,

They can live in fear because of it,

Which is unfortunate,

You know.

I mean,

Because they can't,

You know,

We do have dominion over our space.

Yep.

So there's really no reason to have the fear of anything.

And it's,

You know,

There's not going to be,

You know,

If there were,

Let's say there were like these really evil ghosts that want to hurt people here for some reason,

Because they're living in their house or something.

Like,

You know how many people have died over the last 5,

000 years?

There's a lot,

Man.

If they were running around,

You know,

Physically injuring people all the time because they wanted that house or something,

Like,

We'd have physical proof of that.

Right.

You know,

I mean,

Generally,

I mean,

There's physical proof of some actions being done.

But I mean,

Like I said,

I think the biggest point is that we have dominion over our space here.

And,

You know,

If there is a situation where somebody's being bothered by what they think might be a ghost,

Talk to somebody who knows a little bit more about it.

And it really can,

You know,

Solve the problem.

So final thought on this for you,

From you,

That I would like to get is the idea of unfinished business.

You said that,

Well,

Obviously,

I'll go into unfinished business first.

So,

Like,

TV shows,

Movies,

Obviously,

Has the lore of ghosts being spirits that didn't leave things right.

They're not at peace yet.

Right.

Do you think that that could be an accurate portrayal?

And I would like to remind you that you started this by saying heaven is on Earth and that everybody is just on different frequency levels and so they would be interacting with us anyway.

Well,

Yeah,

Generally,

I mean,

They could be interacting with us.

You know,

I mean,

A lot of times they're not.

But,

Yeah,

I mean,

I think from what I've personally experienced,

And I've heard a lot of different ideas on this,

But what I've personally experienced is that generally when somebody passes,

They become aware of the truth on the other side,

Which everything is okay and everything is love and all that stuff.

Now,

I do believe that we have,

There's a space,

Like,

Our souls can continue evolving,

Especially on this plane.

And that might be why we,

You know,

Some people believe in multiple lives,

So we keep coming back to kind of learn things.

I've experienced sometimes when people have passed and I've connected to them,

Like,

Within a week of when they passed,

That,

Like,

Sometimes they're kind of knocked off center a little bit.

They don't quite know what has happened to them,

So they're kind of confused on the other side.

And it's like you can actually just kind of ask that they be given the knowledge of where they are and what has happened and that everything's okay.

And then,

Like,

In five minutes,

They just relax and calm down.

They're like,

Oh,

Okay.

So,

Like,

Sometimes if they're kind of holding on a little too tight,

Like,

They don't want to leave or if it's a traumatic death or something like that,

I think that sometimes even when they pass,

When they're on that other side,

They can kind of be,

They're still using their free will,

Basically,

To hold on to something so tight that they're closed off.

They're closed off to the reality of the realm that they're in,

So that they can kind of be like that a little bit.

They're okay.

They're just,

They haven't acclimated to where they are yet,

You know.

So they can just kind of settle in and work through that.

Now,

If that can last,

There's no time in the spiritual realm,

So I don't know how this works.

I don't know,

You know,

This is one of those things I hold on to loosely.

I don't know if they just sit there for what we consider to be hundreds of years in that space and we go,

Oh,

My God,

Hundreds of years.

But it might seem like five minutes to them.

I don't know.

Or if everybody just goes through that transition and then,

You know,

Worst case scenario,

Within a month or two,

They kind of get acclimated,

I'm not sure.

I don't know all that stuff.

I just speak to what I've seen,

And I've seen some people kind of a little bit confused over there.

You settle them down and then everything is good.

Well,

That's a lot to think about.

And this has been an interesting episode.

It has not been the norm.

Nope.

And,

You know,

I don't think that we talked quite enough about fun-sized Snickers.

Oh,

Yeah.

But,

All right.

And how everybody should give full-size candy out.

That's expensive.
