Objectless State Of Meditation-Asamprajnat Samadhi
by Girish Jha,
Freedom and Happiness The highest dispassion leads to knowledge of real self, awakens to permanent happiness. We will learn from Yoga Sutra, Gita, and other texts together to discover the true nature. We will follow the four-step approach as taught and passed on to us by great masters of Exastern wisdom. Learning the principles - I do not know, let me know it. Clarity and conviction - I do not understand it; let me understand it. Practice - I do not experience it; let me practice it.

Last week what we did,
Yes,
We did practice.
Yes,
I could see that.
So however,
Everyone is good.
So we all,
Everyone is here.
So there was a boat man,
Sailing the boat and we claim we are fairly intelligent people.
So one intelligent guy was sailing in the boat and the boat man was helping to cross the river and that intelligent guy wanted to go to his home through the boat.
So during the journey,
The intelligent guy asked,
Do you know mathematics?
To the boat man,
Oh no,
I don't know.
25% of your life is wasted.
Okay.
So again,
The intelligent man asked,
Do you know about astrology?
It was almost evening.
No,
I don't know.
So another 25% of your life is wasted.
Do you know about,
You know,
Nowadays,
And we have in US,
I was listening to CNN,
71 billion dollar industry for weight loss.
So intelligent man asked,
Do you know something about diet?
I don't know.
75% of your life is wasted.
And in the middle of the river,
The storm came and the boat man asked,
Intelligent guy,
Do you know swimming?
So the intelligent guy said,
No,
I don't know swimming.
So I'm jumping into the river.
I know swimming.
I will cross the river.
Your 100% of your life is wasted.
The message is clear where we are.
Are we living in the present moment?
We accumulate wealth.
I heard that 80% of the Americans who own the lottery.
So a survey was conducted,
80% of the people after 10 years,
They became almost beggars.
They lost all the money.
I think it was published in Time magazine.
I subscribed to it.
This is how we live our life.
This is how we live our life.
This is how we live our life.
So our master says,
There are three points in meditation or in living your life.
First point is gaining the right knowledge.
Right knowledge about who am I?
And we should throw our garbage.
We should throw the garbage of the knowledge that we have accumulated.
It was used at a particular time.
Now it is not required,
But we build our ego on that knowledge.
And that causes lot of problem.
What knowledge?
For example,
Oh,
Joan is very good.
Sophie is not so good.
Anne is not good.
We accumulate these kind of knowledges.
So the master says,
You have to,
First is right knowledge of the real self.
What is real self?
And that is why this tradition is known as master in a disciple tradition.
That is how I learned from my master for 26 years.
He is teaching for five hours,
Then he said,
Go back to your room,
Contemplate and reflect,
Do the practice,
See the result,
Come back.
And I used to slip lot of understanding.
And then he said,
No,
Go back again,
What I taught you.
So it was a very strict discipline in that master and disciple tradition.
So the first thing is to that we should have a right knowledge about real self beyond cult,
Dogma,
Belief,
Release.
That is very important.
Second thing,
What knowledge is not required,
Throw them into the garbage.
How we do that?
We separate,
That is the second step.
We separate what is real and what is not real with reference to meditation,
With reference to the knowledge of the real.
And it is the simplest thing to do it.
Our master says,
There are two things,
What I am and what I am not.
What it means,
What I am,
Only one thing we have to keep in mind.
That real self is pure consciousness of the nature of pure awareness,
Truth,
Love,
Permanent happiness and wisdom.
Rest is garbage for meditation.
What I am not.
We have all the thought pattern enters into the mind that pertains to what I am not,
99%.
And the third step is practice,
Practice,
Practice with commitment.
And that changes the mind completely.
Okay.
So if we pick up this sutra,
The sutra says,
Viram pratyaya abhyas purvasanskar sheshonya,
The higher meditation is achieved.
When what happens in the mind?
It appears as if the mind has stopped.
The mind doesn't stop,
But it appears the mind has stopped.
It appears.
Why?
It appears because I see that all the thought patterns are too far from me.
They don't influence me.
They don't dictate me anymore.
Why?
Because I see them,
They are different.
They are separate from me.
Your house and neighbor's house.
How many times you care about the neighbor's house?
Not at all.
I know,
I enter into my house,
I come out and I see them.
Oh,
Neighbor's house is okay.
Neighbor is okay.
Hi,
Hello,
Finished,
Done.
That kind of mind evolves in meditation.
Any thought pattern.
If the thought is not there,
We cannot live.
We cannot perform our daily activities.
But these thoughts now are totally separate from me.
I do not consider or a seeker or a meditator,
Never even in the dream,
Thinks that they belong to me.
Because I'm not the thought.
That is how the master says,
It appears as if the mind has stopped.
And deeper inside you experience the objectless state.
And if you live into that objectless state,
Daily,
When you are practicing with a commitment,
What happens?
The knowledge of the reality reveals in you.
What is that knowledge of the reality?
It may appear as choiceless awareness.
It may appear as ecstasy in the form of permanent happiness.
It may appear as pure knowledge,
Simply a knowledge.
And it may appear as simple,
You know,
There are five things,
Pure awareness,
Truth,
Love,
That love.
So when that love expresses outside,
It becomes the compassion.
That is what Buddha is saying.
And we talk a lot about compassion.
I know you.
Yes,
You know me.
Yes,
You know your house.
Yes,
Now see,
Pay attention.
This is the knowledge,
Knowledge about you,
Knowledge about house,
Knowledge about car.
But all these are not me.
I know Anne,
But Anne is not me.
I know Sophie,
John,
Mead,
But I am not,
None of them.
Pay attention.
Who is the knower?
Who is the knower?
Who is the knower?
So for to be the knower,
Where is the first thing that is essential?
Mandatory,
Consciousness.
If there is no consciousness,
I don't know anything.
You see,
Remote,
Remote is a matter.
It is inert.
It does not have consciousness.
So it does not know itself.
And it does not know me.
Simple?
Simple.
So when I say I know you,
Mind always gives too much of importance to other than me.
What we need to do?
You need to do nothing.
Just become aware.
Who is the knower in you?
And that knower is consciousness.
That consciousness does not have any thought.
It is the consciousness borrowed by the mind.
And then the mind recognizes an object.
Then I have a knowledge of the object.
Am I speaking little complex?
I'm making,
Trying to make it simple.
So now you have to,
The knower is consciousness and it is knowledge.
Knower is consciousness and consciousness is knowledge.
This is what this master is saying.
Let us understand in a different way.
I know you.
Consciousness is there in me.
That consciousness expresses itself in the form of a knowledge.
Matter cannot express in the form of a knowledge because it does not have a consciousness.
Clear?
So when I say I know you,
I am conscious.
When I say I know myself,
I'm still conscious.
So my first hand personal experience or first person experience of every human being is consciousness.
And that consciousness is independent of the mind,
Body,
Breath,
Intellect,
Ego,
Thought,
Pain,
Pleasure,
Duality,
Conflict.
So meditation takes us to that state.
Can you divide consciousness?
No.
Can you divide space?
No.
But still we divide that creates a delusion.
The space in my house,
I say,
Oh,
It's a big room.
Oh,
It's a huge living room.
That means the space.
So the space outside my house and the space inside my house are the same or not.
And if they are same in one,
What divides?
Master says it is the delusion that divides.
It appears as if the space inside the house is different from the space outside.
Take a pot.
The space inside the pot and the space all around,
Are they same or different?
They are one.
Okay,
You say a pot.
Pot is made up of clay.
Can you show me where is the pot?
I see on this side it is also clay.
I see on this side it is also clay.
I see at the bottom it is clay.
Where is the pot?
The pot in appearance.
Pot in fact do not exist.
But for the sake of convenience,
For the sake of language,
We make it exist to work in the material world.
Clear?
Are you getting it?
I'll make it simple.
This is what we are talking of the higher meditation practice So I give an example of a pot.
Now one pot is made,
Another pot is Sophie,
Third pot is Girish,
Fourth pot is Anne,
Fifth is John and sixth is Michelle.
We have six pot.
We feel as if they appear,
But there is only one consciousness in all of them that cannot be divided.
Once we awaken to that one reality,
We have succeeded in meditation.
That is known as awakening.
Are you getting it?
No,
Sophie will say no,
I am Sophie.
More beautiful than you.
You have a gray beard.
More beautiful than you,
You have a gray beard.
I'm sorry,
Can you repeat the consciousness concept again?
I'm sorry.
Consciousness,
When I say I know you,
What it means that I know you as a different being.
For any knowledge to take place in our life,
Consciousness is required,
Without consciousness,
I cannot know anything.
So matter is inert,
Matter cannot know itself,
Matter cannot know me,
Hence it is inert.
That is how we define it.
So matter and consciousness.
So for the knowledge to take place,
Consciousness is required.
Can the consciousness be divided?
First thing.
Second thing,
Instead of I say I know you,
Let my mind retrieve,
Go back,
And become aware of the knower.
Who is the knower in me?
Now let me explain in a different way.
So who is the knower in me?
Can I say eyes are knower too,
Eyes are knower?
No,
If the mind is not there,
Eyes cannot know it.
Can the mind be a knower?
Mind and sleep doesn't know anything.
So what is behind the sense organ,
The mind is the one consciousness.
That consciousness and the knowledge,
According to Eastern wisdom,
Are one.
Where there is a consciousness,
There is a knowledge.
You cannot separate them.
And that consciousness,
When we reach there,
Going behind the mind,
Then it is known as awakening.
Another way that I explain about the pot.
Where is the real self?
The space is inside,
The space is outside.
So that real self of the nature of consciousness and the knowledge is also inside the body and outside.
It is everywhere.
Once we experience that,
Then what happens?
Then these seven,
Six parts,
Six parts means six bodies,
We break the delusion.
We don't see that I am different from you,
You are different from me.
I am different from you only in appearance.
So there we reach there.
When I said,
I am the Sophie or John or Mead,
All are essentially one appears different at what level?
At the physical level.
Appears different.
Now go a little deeper.
Is your body not made up of the same matter which my body is made up of?
Go to the ultimate cause.
Tell me.
Maybe because of pigmentation,
Whiteness,
Shape of the nose,
Eyes are different,
But matter is one.
Matter is essentially one.
So it means the meditation is a journey to discover the ultimate cause where the journey ends.
There is an ultimate cause of everything and that ultimate causes the pure consciousness.
That consciousness when we discovered in the state of objectless state of mind,
In the emptiness state of the mind,
And we reach there.
So this is what this sutra says.
Can you think of it?
He wrote this sutra 2,
And we are still juggling.
Oh,
Whether the brain is the seat of consciousness,
Then we say we have two portions of the brain,
Hypothalamus.
Oh,
Whether it is the seat of the consciousness or not.
And some people say,
Consciousness is the product of matter.
There are three or four divergent views in neurosciences and modern science.
Eastern wisdom says,
As you go deeper,
When the mind lives into the state of objectless means,
The mind does not want to know the world outside.
Mind wants to know behind the mind.
And once you realize and awaken to that state,
You feel,
You see,
You know,
You discover a real nature.
This is what this says,
The two stages of higher meditation.
Another perspective,
Then we will do it,
But let us take it.
Why to go for another perspective?
When we chant the mantra,
Asatuma Satgamayo,
It is a word,
Different words,
Makes a sentence or a phrase,
Right?
Every word is different and separate,
But the moment it is spoken,
It becomes a sound.
And the sound is all pervading.
Are you getting it?
I'm making things not complex.
The moment I said,
John or Sophie,
For the mind,
It is separate.
John and Sophie words are separate,
But the moment I have spoken,
It is converted into a sound.
Because I have spoken,
That sound is still present in the space.
Isn't it?
That sound is not limited to the word the moment it is spoken.
So that is the power of the mantra.
Asatuma Satgamayo,
When I say singing and listening,
It is the first step,
Simply singing and listening.
Asatuma Satgamayo You're singing mentally in order to become aware of the sounds.
Asatuma Satgamayo So let that sound,
You hear it.
Then we go to the meaning.
When I say John,
In this group,
Sound,
Then that sound has a meaning.
Hey,
John,
How are you?
So you don't accept the John,
No one becomes,
You know,
More attentive.
Do you see that?
The meaning,
Sound,
Meaning,
And then meaning goes to the essence.
What is the meaning?
Applied knowledge.
Asatuma Satgamayo Ah,
We are trying to go a little deeper.
If it would not work,
I will change the practice.
So three times we do it,
Asatuma Satgamayo with the singing and listening,
Second.
Then we six times we do it for meaning.
Asatuma moving from the false that appears true,
But it is not true.
So I go to the meaning,
Moving from the false to the truth.
What is false?
Where there is a division,
That is false.
Where there is a duality,
There is a false.
Then the third stage we go for the applied wisdom.
Asatuma Satgamayo The truth is always one.
Why it is one?
Consciousness is one,
Why it is one?
Think of it.
Why it is one?
Because it remains same in all the time,
Whether it is past or present or future.
It remains same in all locations.
It remains the same in all events.
And as an I,
That I remains the same in all locations.
It remains same in all the times.
What changes?
Body changed,
Breath changed,
Mind changes,
Intellect changes,
Our perception changes,
But that I deep inside remains the same.
Discovery of that I is meditation.
Tamasomajyotirugamaya Tamasomajyotirugamaya Moving from the darkness or ignorance to wisdom to knowledge.
Why?
Knowledge is consciousness,
Pure knowledge.
Not the knowledge gained by the mind.
That is why I told the story.
Academic knowledge,
Information,
Knowledge about others.
75% your life is wasted.
And the boatman said,
Now I'm living here,
Your 100% life is wasted.
Do you know swimming?
And the third,
Moving from the freedom for the mind to freedom from the mind.
We are always seeking freedom for the mind.
That is the biggest problem.
What is freedom for the mind?
I like you,
Hence I am attached to you.
Hence,
I have some expectations from you.
You have some expectations from me.
So my mind is focused on others.
That is what is known as freedom for the mind.
As long as you will seek freedom for the mind,
Your problem and suffering will never come to an end.
Do whatever you want to do.
Freedom for the mind.
And this mind is seeking one thing at one time,
Seeking something else at the other time.
I hate you first time.
And after a few days,
I love you.
I'm sorry.
You see,
Mind is seeking something other at different times.
I love you.
You are my soulmate.
And after a few months,
You are my sourmate.
I can tell you,
If you ask your mind,
Do you believe your honey 100%?
Don't answer me.
You tell from your heart that 100% trust can never take place from the mind on others.
Whether you may sing a long song for your honey or your son or your kid.
Why?
The mind is of the nature of doubt.
Mind divides.
So when we transcend the mind,
Freedom from the mind.
Mind,
Whatever you say,
Let it be as it is.
Let me go behind the mind.
That is the meaning of the third mantra.
Mretyurama Amritangamayo.
And then we come to Om Shanti,
Shanti,
Shanti.
Om is symbolic.
I say John,
I say Michelle.
So the way,
Name is symbol,
Label.
So same way,
Om is a label of real self.
The moment you sing Om,
Look deep inside your heart.
Shanti,
First Shanti,
Freedom from the mind.
Second Shanti,
To the mind should remain calm.
Third Shanti,
To the body and the world outside.
That is how master explains this mantra.
Am I being too complex?
No,
It's so simple.
Let us start our journey of meditation and see where we stand.
Eyes are closed.
And eyes are closed.
You may sit or lie down.
Did I tell you the knowledge is the first,
Then separation is the second and third,
Then the mind becomes empty.
Eyes are closed,
Sitting or lying down,
Adjust and align your body from the top to the toes.
Look at the neck joint.
So now see that again we go to the knowledge.
First the object,
What is the object?
Look at the neck joint,
That is an object.
Be there,
Who is there?
A consciousness and the knowledge.
Then you experience sensation,
Being comfortable and steadiness.
Look at the way we translate what we understand in the talk to the practice.
Now you experience sensation,
Being comfortable and steadiness,
Okay.
Now let us go deeper.
What is there?
A space.
The space is awareness and the awareness is space.
That's one of the most beautiful principle.
Simple principle,
The space is simple awareness.
How do I know there is a space?
Because of awareness.
And because of the space I become aware.
Because of the awareness there is a space.
Common element,
Look at the shoulder joint.
Outside it is different.
Then I feel sensation,
Being comfortable and steadiness,
Very good.
Then let us go a little deeper.
What is behind sensation?
There is a knowledge of the sensation.
There is a steadiness of the sensation.
There is a knowledge of the steadiness,
Knowledge of being comfortable.
Now I'm speaking because what I discussed I'm translating into a practice.
Look at the hip joint.
Hip joint,
Mind says it is an object.
Very good.
So you are aware.
What happens?
You feel the sensation,
Is a knowledge.
Sensation itself is a part of the consciousness or you can say consciousness or awareness or knowledge.
Comfortable,
Same thing,
Steadiness,
Same thing.
Common element.
Do you see that?
Once you are able to see that without any interference of the mind,
You are already there.
That is the beauty.
Move the mind on the entire body,
On all the joints of the body and become aware of what sensation in the body.
Can I say to the smartphone,
Why don't you become aware?
Why the smartphone cannot become aware and why I can become aware or feel?
Consciousness.
And where there is a consciousness,
There is a knowledge.
See that.
Sensation,
Comfortable.
Whether you say it is your experience,
That is also a knowledge.
A knowledge without consciousness,
You cannot think of it.
You cannot imagine,
You cannot dream.
So my friends,
Sensation,
Being comfortable and steadiness.
Why we do that?
We will take up that in the following session.
I have already taken up that.
Now,
Nyasa.
Why we do nyasa?
Because we want to purify the mind.
Why we want to purify the mind?
The mind in the purified state can reflect on the pure consciousness.
Simple.
So what we do?
Start breathing little deep,
Silent and slow.
Not very deep.
Simple.
You inhale,
You feel the belly rising and into the rib cage in one go.
Do not break your breath and check that the breath is going in and out.
Uniform breath,
First.
Let us pick up only one.
Okay.
Now,
Symbolically I say the breath is your car,
Mind is the driver,
And the highway is the space inside.
So what we do?
So as you inhale,
Move the mind inside the right arm,
In the space inside from the shoulder to the fingertips.
You're moving the mind inside into the space and when you exhale,
Move the mind from the fingertips to the shoulder.
Where?
Inside the right arm in the space or blankness or emptiness,
Whatever you see.
So the mind realizes all the thoughts that are interfering during this practice is just a garbage,
We need not to pay attention to it,
We continue our journey.
How simple.
And now moving the mind and the breath inside the left arm.
You see,
In a way you are not doing,
What you are doing?
Purifying.
The mind should loosen its grip,
Its attachment,
It likes and dislikes with the thoughts that is interfering with the body that interferes the process of meditation.
That is what the purification is.
Continue moving the mind inside.
Now inside the right leg.
As you inhale,
The mind moves inside the right leg in the space inside.
So what I'm simply saying,
The mind should recognize the emptiness or the space inside when the breath is going.
So that space which I see,
The high way.
By the high way,
We raise,
Heighten the state of our awareness.
I'll change the practice today in a simpler way.
And now moving the mind inside the left leg in the same way as you inhale,
Move the mind inside the left leg from the right side of the waist to the toes and from the toes to the left side of the waist.
In the space.
Why?
We don't want to know anything other than me.
I told you,
I know you.
Who is the knower?
So we want to approach the knower inside.
Simple.
So that is what I discussed.
We must have a right knowledge.
And then second point,
We separate right knowledge from the wrong notion in the ideas.
That wrong notion is very good in the material world,
But not in meditation.
So we separate,
Simply separate.
We are not fighting with it.
Thoughts are there,
Very good.
But I'm not the thoughts finished.
That is required.
It is not a control of thought and suppression,
Etc,
Etc.
It has nothing to do with.
We start thinking in terms of modern psychology.
Now,
We have to understand in terms of Eastern psychology.
Then it makes sense for meditation.
Now,
Inside the spine from the crown of the head,
As you inhale,
The mind moves inside from the crown of the head into the spine reaches to the tailbone.
And when the breath returns,
The mind also rises from the tailbone to the crown of the head,
But where?
In the space.
In the space.
Sometimes when sometimes,
Someday the mind continues to go inside in the deeper inside and we are already into the state of meditation.
It is not a step that every step needs to be completed.
That we sometimes we don't want to understand.
The intellect works in sequence step by step.
It has a linear movement.
Consciousness is multi-dimensional.
Now the word,
The meaning and the knowledge associated with it.
Let us use the word Om only.
Don't.
So move the mind inside the right arm with the same breath as you inhale.
Move the mind inside the right arm in the space,
But as you move it,
Start singing mentally.
Reaching to the fingertips and as you return exhaling.
Om.
Why we are doing deep silence,
Slow breaths so that the mind does not return to its normal thinking pattern.
So what is the meaning of the Om?
The meaning is the real self.
What is the real self?
So knowledge is pure consciousness.
So what is the easiest way in the beginning is to maintain awareness of the space within and just drop Om.
Patanjali,
Same master says Shabd means word and then it says Artha the meaning and even the meaning.
After the meaning there is a knowledge and that knowledge is consciousness.
Now move the mind inside the left arm from the shoulder to the fingertips as you inhale singing and listening and meaning.
Om.
While breathing out.
Why it does not happen when I say and I instantly know and there is a clear-cut knowledge of the object,
But why did not happen when I say Om?
Because of the impurities in the mind.
Be very clear about it.
Continue with the left arm.
Your mind will experience this if you are going too far from the outer world.
So if the mind remains impure it invites fear and anxiety,
Reaction,
Freezing and some other experiences.
What you do?
Recognize it,
Accept it and continue the journey.
Move the mind inside the right leg with the Om,
But when you are singing,
Listening Om inside the mind,
Let the mind also remain aware of its knowledge.
Om.
From the right side of the waist to the toes when you inhale and when you exhale moving the mind from the toes to the right side of the waist.
Simple.
We will take up that mantra,
Long mantra later.
Let us first go deeper with the single syllable of the mantra.
Don't relate Om with the cult,
Belief,
Dogma.
If your mind does not have that right notion then what will happen?
The mind will become blind to the Om.
Blindness is a curse in meditation.
Okay,
Look now inside the left leg as you inhale first point of awareness,
Mind start moving into the space with the singing.
Beautiful.
Okay.
Beautiful.
Beautiful.
Beautiful.
Now inside the spine,
We are going a little deeper.
As you inhale,
The mind moves inside the crown of the head into the spine,
Singing,
Listening and meaning.
As you exhale,
The mind moves,
Rises from the tailbone to the top of the head.
Whatever Master says,
And it is an experience of all the Masters,
When you are singing mentally,
It is 1000 times powerful than loud singing.
One.
When we are singing,
It brings about the changes in the energy pattern.
We have 72,
864 energy pathways that is recognized by our great Masters.
So when you are singing,
It triggers the energy.
That energy starts rising up.
When it rises up,
The mind is purified,
Moving up into the higher state of consciousness.
That is one way to explain.
Continue.
Deep silence.
The Aum is singing,
Listening and meaning.
Now drop this deep silence and slow breath.
Make the Aum independent.
Continue to sing without the breath.
Moving the mind from the crown of the head to the tailbone and moving the mind from the tailbone to the top of the head.
Moving the mind from the tailbone to the top of the head is known as the personal effort of a seeker.
And moving the mind from the crown of the head to the tailbone is known as the grace by the existence.
Breath is normal.
You bypass the body and the breath.
That is the meaning of the third long mantra.
Freedom for the mind.
No.
Freedom from the mind.
And doing nothing.
Remain as you are.
Well,
If any objection in the thought pattern comes to the mind,
Just move the mind once and leave this.
Remain in that state of jetless.
Doing nothing.
Remain as you are.
Shanti,
Shanti,
Shanti.
Shanti,
Shanti,
Shanti.
Shanti,
Shanti.
Bring your awareness on the right hand.
Bring your awareness on the left hand.
Lift your both the palms.
We have completed the meditation.
Looking inside the palms and know your experiences.
Bring the hands down.
We'll share our experiences now.
Bring your hands down.
Very good.
How are you,
Michelle?
You didn't move.
I actually felt really good.
I was holding my hands like this on the floor.
I didn't feel like I was on the floor.
I felt like I couldn't feel them.
It was like I'm itching somewhat better.
Ah,
That's a beautiful experience.
I could see that.
You see that now we can bypass all the challenges posed by the body if the mind moves in sight and understands what it is.
So the knowledge,
Understanding,
Practice,
All are required in the journey.
That's why I do gossip every time we meet before we start.
Beautiful.
How are you,
Meed?
I muted your phone,
Sophie,
Because there is an echo.
Yes,
Yes,
I can hear.
I felt some old grief.
Old grief had to be healed.
Yeah,
Yeah,
Yeah,
Yeah,
Definitely it happens.
We see it as a purification of the mind and in our country we are using different words,
Healing.
So definitely it works.
Beautiful.
That's a wonderful experience.
So let us do first Sophie and then Sophie will mute and if she has to ask a question we will do it later.
So let me know Sophie.
Yes.
Thank you.
I was very quiet and calm but I think I went into some kind of oblivious.
But you were aware.
You were aware during the practice.
So that is definitely required.
We move into meditation from the waking state only.
We cannot move into meditation from sleep or dream.
So even if I'm aware of some kind of oblivion,
Obviously it means the mind has gone too far from the world.
The more it goes too far from the world outside,
We have those experiences.
Thank you.
How are you John?
Okay,
Good.
It was very peaceful.
I dozed off.
I dozed off a little bit.
But I very much appreciate the fact that you changed the nature of the practice each time because I get something different out of it.
Yes,
Yes.
I think that's a good thing.
Yes,
And because otherwise what will happen,
The mind becomes habitual.
And habit is not meditation.
Habit always comes from the subconscious mind.
It recalls the knowledge.
Oh,
I know it.
So I need to change it so that the mind does not follow that habit.
Beautiful.
How are you Anne?
You were also absorbed totally.
I was looking at it.
How did you feel?
If I,
Towards the end I had the minute where I fell asleep.
Yeah,
Yeah,
Yeah.
You see,
Sleep,
That is,
Sleep is one.
I think I told you before,
Say the mind is going inside.
It is going inside and it falls down.
That is the unconscious trap.
It is asleep and it comes because of a lot of stuff in the mind.
Other way,
Other option,
The mind continues to go straight and when it goes straight it becomes too far from the body.
It appears too far from the body,
The world outside and we experience the calmness.
Other way,
The mind takes an about turn outside.
So we have a lot of thoughts sometimes,
Fancies,
Imagination,
That is another.
Fourth one,
The mind starts vertically moving up.
So when we say vertically moving up,
It is the heightened state of awareness,
Heightened state of consciousness.
So the four options,
Only,
You know,
The distractions,
Sometimes we feel unease,
Reaction in the mind.
So that is one impurity.
That comes because the mind is constantly seeking something outside which is still unfulfilled.
How many things are unfulfilled in our life?
Only a million.
Not too much,
A million.
And why we fall into unconsciousness?
Because of the past impressions that is accumulated,
That pulls us down.
One example,
When the mind finds no object while lying down on the bed before going to sleep,
The mind acquires the habit when there is no thought,
Oh let us fall into unconsciousness.
The mind plays the tricks with us.
Just,
You know,
To simplify.
So now if you have any question you can ask.
But don't worry because now we have understood the two higher practices of meditation.
Now the master explains from where the meditation begins that we will take up in the next week,
From where the meditation process begins in our life.
So he starts completely as if it is for the layman.
So why he explained the higher practices and higher concepts before,
So he has the liberty to go down.
That is what I always say.
In every session I talk about the highest.
Why?
Because I have a liberty to go down.
But if I start with the lowest,
There is no chance.
There is no chance of going further down.
So that is how Eastern wisdom works totally differently.
It is not like a science.
You have to study alphabets and language and then academics and prose and the poetry.
No,
It says let us start with the highest.
So yes,
Any questions?
Sophie,
No question.
No question.
So John has to face a lot of questions at home.
Oh,
You'd be surprised.
I'm happy to listen to you.
I'll be surprised means one million questions.
Every minute a question.
It's okay.
It's okay.
It's okay means that,
You know,
Now John enjoys your questions.
So continue asking questions.
No,
We all have a specific habit.
So that is all for today.
We will meet again next week in a very simple process of meditation.
What is the beginning?
We will talk about it.
Thank you.
Thank you.
