Tenderness.
A path to wholeness.
If tenderness is at the center of our meditation practice,
It gently opens us to love,
Compassion,
And serenity.
It broadens our hearts and leads us to the deep realization that our true nature consists of the unity of wisdom and infinite compassion.
Let your attention sink into your body.
Take three deep breaths.
Release any tension you feel in the body.
Feel where you're sitting and how your feet are touching the ground.
Notice the sensations in your feet,
Legs,
Hips,
And lower body.
Feel the enormous planet Earth holding and supporting you.
Feel grounded.
Now direct your attention to your hands,
Resting in your lap or on your thighs.
Let them feel heavy.
Sense the pelvis and how it feels.
Notice how your spine rises gently from the pelvis,
Upwards to the neck,
Skull,
And crown.
Notice how your hands are moving effortlessly with the breath.
Pay attention to the rhythm of your breathing.
Let your arms relax,
Your neck soften.
Let go of your shoulders.
Allow your body to become light in this posture.
Your back is strong and full of trust.
What happens when you gently open your chest a little?
With this tender opening,
The chest and diaphragm can feel warm and soft.
A soft front makes us vulnerable and curious.
Sink into the deep calm that comes with this relaxation.
Listen to the silence.
Can you feel the peace beneath the constant noise of daily life?
Allow yourself to touch this peace.
Allow yourself to soften,
Be more open,
More joyful.
Sometimes it feels as if our own stillness stimulates deep tenderness.
Let the tenderness fill your entire being.
Ask yourself,
What does tenderness mean to me?
Perhaps you notice that tenderness is rooted in a deeper connection.
It creates closeness while thinking and judging separate us.
The true secret of tenderness lies in the connectedness,
In the feeling of belonging,
Of meeting others as equals.
By supporting one another,
We discover that tenderness resides within each of us.
Our tenderness is inseparable from that of others.
Allow yourself to merge into it.
Feel how tenderness carries you and takes the weight off your shoulders.
Think of someone you love.
Feel the tenderness and kindness radiating from that person.
Imagine a loving gesture,
Perhaps a gentle kiss on the forehead or a soft touch on the shoulder.
Feel the love flow through you and gently spread to the other person.
Allow yourself to take a break.
Let go of busyness and rest in the silence.
Free yourself from the urge of always having to do something.
It's like a rope tying your boat to the shore.
Let the boat gently drift out onto the calm lake.
You know you will return.
Release the need to know or act.
Just simply let yourself drift.
It's okay as it is.
Be curious about how it feels to let go.
There is no effort in tenderness.
It is a part of our being,
Free of concepts.
In this stillness,
Light and love begin to shine through and we recognize ourselves as part of the greater whole.
This love is unconditional,
Infinite and as light as tenderness itself.
The less the ego interferes,
The more true original love can blossom.
Gently return to your body and feel it resting.
Listen to the silence within and around you.
Smile tenderly into your whole body.
Feel the vast space in your heart that encompasses all beings and the planet Earth.
Sense how tenderness heals and transforms the world.
May all beings be safe and healthy.
May all beings have their heart's desires fulfilled and live with ease.
May all beings flourish and find contentment.
May all beings live in peace and harmony.
