The practice has two parts: A) Attention is a movement of the mind. It moves about on its own, registering sounds and sensations without becoming involved. We direct it with intentions and desires. B) By setting an intention we focus on what we want to experience in the future. It helps us to hold what is most important to us in the present moment. Intentions get things done.

My name is Gerald Blomile,

And I wrote and recorded this podcast meditation for you.

Enjoy.

Intentions can be a source of our happiness.

Every movement and every wish starts with an intention.

They determine our lives.

To meet them consciously,

We observe our thoughts,

And notice that intentions always precede an action.

Their energy guides our attention.

Come into the present.

Feel the position of your body.

Notice that it is breathing all by itself.

Let your senses open to the space of the room.

Notice the different senses.

The sense of taste.

Experience the tastes and the sensations in the mouth.

Smelling.

Without going into naming,

Just let the nose be open to smell.

Seeing.

The eyes see colors,

Light and darkness.

Touching.

Feel what is happening on the surface.

The air on your face.

Feel the sensation of your clothes.

And notice how your body is being supported.

The body is being supported.

The body is being supported.

The body is being supported.

The body is being supported.

The body is being supported.

Hearing.

Take a moment to listen to a sound before the mind comes in and names it.

Notice that sound is all around us.

Let your attention be open and just listen.

Notice what effect it has on your body and your mind.

Feel yourself as this unlocalized openness of awareness.

Let yourself just settle into the ease of being.

Whatever thoughts occur in your conscious mind,

No matter how much you may want or not want something,

Simply observe that the thought is just a movement of the mind.

Thoughts just come and go.

Just welcome them.

Welcome the sounds and the sensation of the body.

Welcome them into the openness of this field of presence.

Notice that we have experienced two types of presence,

The thinking mind and the here and now,

And the open spacious field of awareness that we often say is in the heart.

Attention is a movement of the mind.

It moves about on its own,

Registering sounds and sensations without becoming involved.

We direct our attention with intentions and desires.

The intention is a focusing power with which we want to experience the future.

We set an intention to carve a path towards a desired end.

That helps us to hold what is most important to us.

Paying attention to the energy of an intention is feeling the future in your body in the present moment.

An intention is a creative power like a seed in your mind.

When it grows,

It shapes both your priorities and your destiny.

An intention consciously articulates a goal.

We set and affirm our best intentions to steer us in the direction we really want to go.

Meditation takes you beyond the thinking mind into the stillness of pure awareness.

This is why meditators often start a session by planting their seeds of intention and then letting them go into the depths of consciousness.

This is combined with the wish to avoid harmful behavior and to cultivate goodness.

Choosing an intention sets the tone for a meditation.

Buddhists tend to use sentences like,

May all beings be happy,

Healthy,

And whole.

May they have love,

Warmth,

And affection.

May they be protected from harm and free from fear.

May they be safe and live with ease.

Let us now set an intention or a heartfelt wish without any attachment to a specific result.

Be aware of your body.

Relax your face.

Soften your eyes.

Jaw.

Shoulders.

Feel the gravity and let the weight sink downwards.

Breathe in and out deeply three times.

Allow your attention to wander with your senses.

Listen to the sounds around you.

Notice the energies and thoughts that are passing through your mind.

Notice the feeling of your whole body.

Ask yourself,

What is really important for me?

What do I wish for myself,

For my loved ones,

And for the world today?

Just be open.

See if any answers come up.

If not,

Just stay with the questions.

If answers come up,

Recognize them.

Pay attention to the thoughts and feelings accompanying them.

How do you feel when your intentions are fulfilled?

Remain in a state of restful awareness,

Centered in the quiet field of all possibilities.

We're coming to the end.

Trust that having released your intentions into the fertile ground of pure potentiality,

They will bloom when the time is right.

Be open and live in the wisdom of uncertainty.

Allow opportunities and openings to come your way.

No pressure.

Over time,

Setting your intention takes less than a minute.

When you wake up in the morning,

You can select an intention and set the tone for the day.

Before going to bed,

Check if you act it accordingly.

Remember,

Intentions get things done.

Most thought-provoking! I note your version of one of Deepak Chopra’s Seven Spiritual Laws of Success; “Be grounded in the wisdom of uncertainty” - has been my mantra since the early 80s. So profound. Thank you 🙏🏼

Very informative. May allow more time to reflect/sit in silence and allow for the intention to settle. Just to get an impression of how meditating after setting an intention can be practice.
