In the Celtic tradition the hare is sacred to the goddess and is the totem animal of lunar goddesses such as Hecate,
Fridia and Hulda.
The hare is also a symbol for the moon.
The goddess most closely associated with hare is Estra or Ostar.
The traditions continue in forms all over at this time of year when we see bunnies and colored eggs representing spring and the Easter holiday.
Here's a version one of many stories revolving around the hare and the colorful Easter egg or as some say,
Estra,
A little tribute.
Once upon a time the animal kingdom gathered together for meeting in a flurry of great excitement.
There was to be a very special party and a very special guest who was coming to visit them and the very special guest was none other than the goddess herself and every creature wanted to bring her a very special gift.
Now some of the animals were really rich and some were really poor but off they went to prepare their gifts for only the very very finest would do for the goddess.
Hare was really excited he's jumping around and he dearly loved the goddess and although he was very poor he had a big generous heart he was going to give her the very finest gift he could find.
Hare rushed home to see what he could give to the goddess he looked everywhere in the cupboards under the bed but there was nothing even the larder was empty.
He had absolutely nothing to give her except for one thing on the shelf in the larder was a single egg and that was it it was the only thing he had left.
Hare gently took the egg out of the larder and lovingly decorated it and took it to the party.
Hare was very worried because he was very nervous anyway all the other animals gave their gifts of gold and silver and precious jewels and all Hare had was the egg.
Eventually all the gifts had been given and Hare was the very very last.
Hare shyly presented the goddess with the egg.
She took it and looked at him and saw the true spirit of the Hare and there and then the goddess appointed Hare as a very special animal because Hare had given away everything he had.
So take a moment to reflect on what's the precious gift you have.
Salmon.
Take a breath and inhale the sense of spring the soft air filled with the promise of flowers as we first see the signs with the emerging of the crocus the forsythias and the daffodils and bloom on the bright gentle spring grass all the beautiful yellows and purples heralding the beginning of spring.
Breathe in and imagine yourself going through the field until your toes hit against the little nest a clutch of eggs together in the field.
This nest is filled with eggs and you see their potential and gently turn them over in your hand and welcome this gift of seeing them.
Inhale the fragrance of the air fill yourself with a clean crisp spring air.
As you look down and your fingers glide over the eggs they turn different colors as you touch the eggs they turn radiant use of colors you pass your fingers over them they become filled with different images different scenes one of the color of the sky changing into a deep indigo night with brilliant stars.
Another is you see the sunrise as it warms our bodies back from dream time or the serenity of the moon reflected in the water or maybe the vast sunny hills of grass and flowers.
What images and colors would you paint your world?
Name them.
What it is you like?
What you would like to give to yourself and the world at this time?
What gifts would you like to give the divine feminine?
Maybe the most powerful the gift of love to yourself and to the spring goddess of your understanding who it is that protects you and washes out for you.
Green Tara,
Mother Mary,
Hecate,
Aestra.
Hold it doesn't matter who but feel the love holding and then gently put the eggs back and leave their potential to the gift of spring and allow it time to emerge the power and the promise of spring is within you today and every day.
Namaste.
