Take a moment to arrive,
You don't need to stop your thoughts or quiet your mind,
Just allow yourself to pause.
If it feels comfortable,
Gently close your eyes,
Or soften your gaze,
And notice that you're breathing.
When overthinking is present,
The mind often feels busy,
Restless,
Or tight,
As if it's trying to solve something that doesn't have a clear answer.
There is nothing wrong with you for this,
This is simply a mind that's been working very hard.
Begin by noticing the natural rhythm of your breath,
Not changing it,
Not deepening it yet,
Just noticing that it's there.
Thoughts may already be moving quickly,
Planning,
Replaying,
Analysing,
You don't need to follow them.
Imagine your thoughts like background noise,
A radio playing in another room.
You can hear it,
But you don't need to listen closely.
Bring your attention back to the breath as it moves in,
And as it moves out.
If the mind pulls you away again,
That's okay.
Each return to the breath is a small act of kindness.
There is no need to make the mind empty,
No need to get this right.
Overthinking often comes from wanting certainty,
Safety,
Or reassurance,
So rather than pushing it away,
See if you can meet it gently.
You might quietly say to yourself,
I see you,
You're trying to help.
And then return once more to the feeling of breathing.
As you breathe in,
Imagine creating a little space around your thoughts,
Not removing them,
Just loosening your grip.
As you breathe out,
Allow the effort of thinking to soften even slightly.
You may notice brief gaps between thoughts,
Or you may not,
Both are perfectly fine.
The goal here is not silence,
It's relief from the pressure to keep thinking.
Let the breath be something steady beneath the movement of the mind,
Something that doesn't need solving.
If it feels supportive,
Silently repeat on the out-breath,
I don't have to figure everything out right now.
Let those words land softly.
For these few moments,
You can rest from analyzing,
Rest from replaying,
Rest from anticipating what comes next.
The mind can keep doing what it does,
You don't need to manage it.
As we begin to bring this meditation to a close,
Notice if there is even a small shift,
A little less tension,
A little more space,
Or simply a sense of having paused.
You can return to this gentle pause whenever your thoughts feel overwhelming.
Begin to notice the space around you,
The surface beneath you,
The sounds nearby.
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes or lift your gaze.
Carry this softness with you,
Remembering that you don't need to solve everything in order to be at peace.
