This is a short 'Mindful Moment with Gratitude' practice. It offers kids a pause in their day and also helps overcome the brains negativity bias by incoporating gratitude. It focuses on the breath, listening to the sound of the bowl ring and things we are grateful for. It can be used at any time of the day. Enjoy.

A mindful moment with gratitude.

So let's get our mindful bodies on.

Sitting open and upright like a mountain.

Or lying on your back balanced and symmetrical.

Still and quiet.

Palms open and resting in your lap or over your belly or by your side.

Please close or lower your eyes.

And take three delicious deep belly breaths to help relax and calm your body.

Breathing in.

Breathing out.

Breathing in.

And breathing out.

Just let your breath settle now.

Just let your breath breathe you.

And now listen to the sound of the bowl until you can no longer hear it ring.

No longer hear it ring.

Now picture in your mind three big things you are grateful for.

Perhaps it's your home,

Your family,

A pet,

A teacher.

Whilst picturing these three big things in your mind place a hand over your heart and say silently to yourself,

Thank you.

Thank you very much.

And on your next breath in let your heart fill with the feeling of gratitude.

And on your next out breath let that warm fuzzy feeling flow through your whole body now.

Now picture in your mind three small things you are grateful for or perhaps three things that you often take for granted or perhaps forget about.

So it might be the warm sun on your face,

A hug from a friend,

A smile,

Your clothes,

Your hands,

Your breakfast.

And whilst picturing these small things in your mind keep your hand over your heart and say silently to yourself,

Thank you.

Thank you very much.

Breathe in and let your heart fill with gratitude.

And breathe out and let that warm fuzzy feeling flow through your whole body.

And just take a moment now to notice how you feel after relishing and thanking these things that you are grateful for.

Do you feel happier?

Remembering to feel grateful about the big and the little things in your life can be really helpful.

Next time you are feeling sad,

Angry,

Lonely or afraid see if you can think of some things or even one thing that you can feel grateful for.

And then notice how you feel.

And as we come towards the end of this mindful moment with gratitude you might like to wriggle your fingers and toes.

Have a little stretch,

Open your eyes when you are ready.

Thank you.
