We celebrate the birth of Jesus the Christ together - the Light and the Word that became Flesh. Light does not judge that which it shines upon and we try and learn some lessons from that. Jesus came to unite people so that all could live in harmony and peace.

In preparing for the Mass tonight,

There are several Masses that one can celebrate on Christmas Day depending on the time of day.

And of course,

Because we are now able to connect from all over the world,

I took a bit of a liberty to choose the specific reading and the specific celebration of Mass for tonight.

Jesus is the light.

Jesus is the Word made flesh.

Jesus is the light that no darkness can overpower.

Isn't that beautiful?

How powerful are those words?

But what do they mean?

Before we read this passage from John,

It's easy for us to say that anybody who does not believe in Jesus is wrong.

They are part of the darkness.

But let's look at light.

Let's look at white light.

When I shine a beam of light in the darkness,

What happens?

And it hits something.

What happens?

Whatever it hits is seen.

It makes it visible to us.

Whatever it hits.

And that is why we see here in this reading as well that we say that there is no darkness that can overwhelm it,

Overcome this light.

And it's a beautiful metaphysical picture that is drawn and we see,

Well,

I at least see this light hurtling through space and getting bigger and bigger and just growing into this lovely,

Lovely universe that we are in and going past this universe or this universe into other universes and other dimensions,

Whatever it may be,

Because we don't have any clue what's going on out there.

But what I see as well is this light illuminates everything.

I work with lasers medically during the week and we work with photonic medicine where we excite photons and we put them in a container and they get super excited and we harvest that.

We send it through a pipe or through a piece of fiber optic cable and we then use that for different modalities of healing.

But in physics we know in that tube where the photons are excited and created,

They travel straight and they have an effect on whatever they hit.

And those are the ones that we then harvest.

And I want to use that same picture when it comes to the light of Christ.

The light of Christ doesn't veer off.

It shines everywhere.

It doesn't go up to a person and say,

You are not a Christian,

You don't recognize me as Christ,

So I'm just going to bypass you.

It shines on the person who does not call themselves a Christian.

It shines on us all and through us all.

Somewhere over the past 2000 years we forgot that message or maybe it is time that we bring physics into this world and we say that let's illuminate everything and we accept the fact that Christ,

The light of the Christ ray,

The Christ consciousness shines on all.

But now this is where things change slightly because we also then know that we have spirit and we all have spirit.

Again there are many discussions on soul versus spirit and what happens after we die do we go back.

For me the fact remains and this is my belief that we all have the spirit of God inside of us and this spirit of God,

This God that I am referencing now,

Is much more than the Christian God that we want to label and that we want to put in a box and say,

We understand you this way Lord,

So please don't step out of line.

You had better not step out of line.

I don't care if you're God.

This is my religious dogma.

That's where our egos come beautifully into play,

Isn't it?

That's where we expect the light of God to start veering off because we don't want to accept maybe that the way we experience God is not the way,

It is a way.

But today we celebrate the fact that Jesus the Christ was born.

The light,

The word.

Now light and word are two very beautiful things and very beautiful concepts.

We've not spoken about light but let's discuss the word.

I was very naive 10 years ago when I attempted to do a PhD with a thesis on the use of sound and vibration.

Even the sense of thinking that I could put a lot of knowledge together and through the process of the studies I just realized how much we don't know.

But one thing that is very interesting about sound is that mathematically we can prove that every word you speak literally echoes into eternity.

Think about that.

And now the Bible tells us Christ was with God and Christ is the word spoken,

The first word,

Isn't that beautiful?

Christ echoes into eternity and everything from there is born from Christ.

Perhaps we are just overtones and undertones of an original word and what we say are just echoes of what has been said before.

But we have a choice in our words.

When the light of Christ shines on us we realize that we recognize this light because that light also shines within us because that light is in us through the Spirit of God.

Which means that more than just reflecting light we do so much more than just reflect light,

We are the light,

We are part of the light.

And it sounds very egotistical to say that,

That we are the light.

But if we can accept that all,

We all are the light,

We all are part of God,

Then it takes away the ego.

It makes it quite humbling then,

This massive responsibility that we have,

That we have the light of Christ inside of us.

And now we move again back from the wavelength of light into the frequency of sound because if we have this light inside of us and we shine,

Think about the responsibility of your words.

What do you say?

What do you talk about?

About other people,

About situations,

About life,

About yourself.

So as we move into the celebration of Christmas,

I would love for us all to just become aware,

Become aware of the light that is inside of all of us and then link that light to the words that you speak.

Because those words echo into eternity and they travel just as the light that is Christ travels forever.

Amen.
