How Is Your Heart Today, My Friend?
by Lauri Albert
When you greet someone, are you genuine in wanting to know how they are, or are you just being polite? Today is about being present even in the seemingly insignificant moments.

Namaste everybody.
Welcome to In the Flow with Lori Albert.
I am Lori Albert,
A happy medium,
Intuitive,
And meditation teacher.
I hope you are all doing well today.
And here's the thing.
How is your heart today my friends?
How is your heart?
I love that.
I love,
I love that question.
Interestingly,
I was listening to a course by this yoga and meditation teacher named Brian Hyman,
And he said that,
And he said,
How is your heart today friend?
And all of a sudden I was like,
I got chills.
Because that meant something.
So when I heard him say that,
I,
It felt like he cared.
Even though he has no idea who I am.
It felt like he cared.
And then he started talking about,
You know,
Greeting and being truthful and that sort of thing.
But what I took away from that was being present in the moment when you ask somebody how they are.
How many times a day,
Like a day,
Seriously,
Every day,
You say,
Oh,
Hi,
How are you?
It rolls off your tongue.
And it's so easy to just do.
But do you really want to know?
I mean,
That's,
You know,
Do you really want to know?
Do you really care?
And then how many times does this happen to you?
And this happens to me,
And I catch myself,
And boy do I feel bad.
But I catch myself because what will happen is I'll say,
Hi,
How are you?
And they'll say,
Oh,
Hi,
How are you?
And I'll say,
Oh,
Good,
How are you?
And you start saying it back and forth,
And it makes no sense.
Makes no sense,
Right?
So I thought,
You know,
We need to be more present.
Don't you think?
When you greet somebody and you say,
How are you?
Oh my gosh.
That should be,
Like we should care.
Like we really should care.
Look somebody in the eye and say,
How are you,
Friend?
How is your heart?
Because when someone says to you,
How is your heart?
That means something,
You know?
That made me feel like,
Oh,
How is your heart?
Do you really want to know the answer?
When you say to somebody,
How are you,
How is your heart?
Do you really want to know the answer?
That,
And that's like an individual question.
It's,
You know,
It's meant to be just for you individually.
But I was so struck by that because I thought to myself,
Oh my gosh,
How many times do I do that a day?
And do I care?
It's just a thing that we say.
And here's the thing,
If we are nothing throughout our day,
Our life,
If we are nothing throughout our day,
We should be present and honest,
Truthful with that kind of thing.
I mean,
That's like surface level stuff.
When you say to somebody,
How are you?
That should mean something,
Right?
So my question today is,
How are you,
Friend?
How is your heart?
Wow.
Right?
I don't know.
That meant something to me.
And I,
I was overwhelmed.
You guys know how I get.
I was kind of overwhelmed with emotion whenever I realized that.
So today,
And from now on,
I'm going to try really hard to be present when I say to somebody,
How are you?
Because that's the least I can do,
Right?
For when you meet somebody,
Isn't that the,
Like possibly the least you can do is like really want to know.
If you don't want to know,
Just say,
Hey,
How are you?
Oh,
Gee,
Did you hear what I just did?
If you don't want to know how somebody is,
Just say,
Hi.
Isn't that crazy?
So it's,
You know,
You know how you go through life and you have those,
Those aha moments.
This was one of those for me.
Because I try,
I try really hard to be present and to be aware and to care.
And that's not to say that I'm not making anybody wrong.
That doesn't feel that way.
But you know,
I just want to call attention to the fact that we say,
How are you?
Without even really caring about the answer.
And sometimes even worse yet,
What we do is what I do.
You know what I should put it on me.
What I'll do is I'll say,
Hi,
How are you?
So anyway,
So blah,
Blah,
Blah,
Blah,
Blah,
Right?
So then you just power through it.
Wow.
We as humans are interesting creatures,
Aren't we?
So today,
We're going to,
We're going to meditate on that.
Let's meditate on it,
Right?
When in doubt,
Meditate.
So let's get ourselves comfortable.
Oh,
Get yourself comfortable in your chair or laying down.
Let your eyes float closed.
And let's take a nice long,
Slow,
Deep breath in through your nose and release it.
And as we get ready to meditate,
Let's consider without making ourselves wrong.
Because we never want to do that.
Let's consider today,
When we ask people how they are,
To really want to know,
To be truthful with ourselves.
And it's all okay.
However that lands for you.
It's all okay.
If you're busy,
And you just can't take the time to have that conversation with somebody as to how they really are,
That's absolutely okay.
Just say hi.
But today,
When I say,
How are you?
How is your heart friend?
I want to know.
And that kind of leads into kindness and being present.
So as we relax today,
Get ready to meditate on this.
Let's consider a few things that we are grateful for.
What is it that you are grateful for today?
Today,
I am so grateful for the quiet and the stillness so that I can hear what Spirit has to tell me.
What are you grateful for?
And then one of my favorite David G sacred questions is,
When you are your best self,
Who are you?
Who are you when you are being the best that you can be?
So for today's mantra,
As we sit in the silence and stillness,
Our mantra today is,
Today,
I am my truest self.
Today,
I am my truest self.
Today,
I am my truest self.
So if you forget the mantra,
Or if you get sidetracked,
Just gently wave the thoughts away and come back to your breath.
Or to the mantra,
Today,
I am my truest self.
I will keep the time.
Let's begin.
Today,
I am my truest self.
Today,
I am my truest self.
Today,
I am my truest self.
Today,
I am my truest self.
Today,
I am my truest self.
Today,
I am my truest self.
Today,
I am my truest self.
Today,
I am my truest self.
Let's start bringing our awareness back to our bodies.
And let's take a nice long,
Deep,
Deep breath in.
And release.
Whenever you feel comfortable,
You can open your eyes.
How did that feel?
And I hope that your heart is well today.
And as you go on throughout the rest of the day,
Just remember to be present.
Be present.
Thank you so much for joining today.
I really appreciate every single one of you.
And until next time,
Namaste everybody.
Have a beautiful day.
