A lot of times what we want to do is focus on the problem and how to fix it.

Right?

We want to say I'm having a really tough time judging myself,

I'm hard on myself,

Whatever it is that brings us to a self-compassion class.

We want to focus on the problem.

And what I want to open our minds to today is something that's so simple.

So please come listen with an open mind like you're listening to music not to agree or disagree but to kind of have something new land.

When you find a space inside of yourself that is already well,

That is already whole,

Not some big spiritual thing,

I'm gonna simplify this for all of us today,

That is already complete,

It tells us exactly what we need to then heal whatever it is that we're focusing on.

So if we're focusing on the problem we only have the small capacity of the thinking in our brain,

What we've already learned from our past to try to fix the thing that we think is broken.

But what I'm having us do is not be in denial or say those things don't exist,

Go that's there.

But the best bet I have at coming back into alignment with love,

With compassion for myself,

With compassion for others,

With peace,

With resilience,

Whatever it is that we're seeking,

These beautiful interstates of being,

Is to look in the direction of it already being there.

We're so good at finding proof of the other and what I have learned,

My teachers would always say,

Well look for the light,

Look for the good,

Look for the health,

Right?

And you find it and it's so silly you guys because like I've been in this conversation for eight years and the second that you find it you go,

This is so obvious,

Like this is so right in front of my face and not some big complex spiritual thing,

Like why was this so hidden from me?

And so I want you to know like this is attainable,

This is simple,

Don't try to complicate this.

There are so many people,

Teachers in this world that,

You know,

No judgment but they're still teaching from a big place of ego so they want you to follow their path and make it some,

You know,

It's really hard for me so it needs to be really hard for you and no.

So what I want to talk about today is common sense.

The gift of common sense.

This is where it's like okay why are we talking about this and how simple and this is so simple this can't change all of my problems but I promise you that it can.

There is something in all of us that is so in front of our face we look past it and if you guys are used to coming to me in this class you're used to hearing me call it either inner wisdom or intelligence or even source,

Right?

And even those words can make it seem like oh I need to open up to my inner wisdom and it's this big thing that I need to learn and blah blah blah blah blah but if we use the word common sense which is the same thing there is in every moment because we cannot be detached from it an energy inside of us connected to the whole called common sense.

We don't put that there.

We don't learn that.

We have all different IQ levels.

We come from all different families.

We come from all different cultures and backgrounds and all of us have it.

Sometimes we're aware of it and use it a bit more and sometimes we're so caught up in here that we don't see it.

But we don't need when we when we have a visceral we look inside and we go oh shit this is so obvious it's been there all along and we see that it's 100% reliable has never left us will never leave us then guess what happens you guys we start not relying so much on the mess.

The mess that says I'm not okay anxiety keeps me safe I need to be hard on myself or punish myself to fix something.

I need to punish other people to fix something.

I need to be caught up in overwhelm and wild blah in order to be okay.

Start to look.

Look today in this meditation.

Look throughout the day.

It's it I can't give it to you.

No one can give it to you.

You just have to look.

Now let me let me give you an example of how this plays out.

So the more I've been kind of looking like oh there's this 100% loving grandma grandpa in your head constantly guiding you constantly and so when we don't know that we go the other stuff keeps me safe because that's what we grew up in so that's why you don't need to go in and fix your past that's why nobody is long gone.

The common sense part will bring you back home from wherever you've gone and common sense will say go to this therapist eat this meal take a walk challenge yourself more move your body even though you're afraid stop being a bitch whatever or be a bitch more like it's so subtle so like yesterday for example I was really tuned into this and I noticed like my boyfriend and I went we went out ordered sushi and went out to like pick it up yesterday and we had this he was caught up in his thinking and normally my ego might want to get in there and be like why are you being like this or whatever now here was the crazy part that's my mind that's just habit what I learned I felt this tiny voice inside so you have to be attuned to this quietness it's not quiet it's just not as loud as the crazy that said don't get involved in that that's gonna be ego to ego it's gonna you're gonna go wherever you go you're gonna it's gonna be a mess walking around the block my mind wanted to be right well yeah but you know that's ridiculous behavior I need to tell him that all mind right so I just heard common sense which is wisdom intelligence this voice that all of us have regardless of our circumstance I heard it say just let that be and within like three minutes it was gone and we were talking about something else now had I not listened to that and I listened to this it would have taken me into a mess so most of us are used to living in these Groundhog Day cycles of our mind right but this the simplicity of common sense you guys can bring us back home and you're gonna hear your mind say common sense like another example this morning I'm doing this thing now because I'm an energy healer and so it's really helpful for me to for me to move my body to keep energies moving because I can feel a lot of people's energies so I started doing this thing where I'll dance for like five to ten minutes a day however I want not like to look good but just with the intention to clear energies so my common sense because I'm leading this training today said do your dance and then I heard my mind go I don't feel like it and because I'm learning about common sense I was like now I know which voice is me common sense is divine not some crazy you don't need to take all these courses common sense is spiritual soul your connection to the divine loving it's how to love yourself is listen to your common sense save you lots of money there that's it right there right and then I chose to do the damn thing right for five to ten minutes and I'm like oh that's my that's how to trust yourself is just following this thank you Jackie I do still close the windows so the neighbors don't see but whatever but I just wanted to share with you guys that it doesn't matter what hole we have dug ourselves in or whatever hole God bless our hearts that we came into from the people that innocently were ignorant in their head and passed down a bunch of pain to us there is a loving guide inside of all of us and I know those words can make it seem out there and scary or even religious and then we shut it all out but if you really look it's just as simple as like it's a well-being it's an obviousness and then our mind wants to over complicate the obviousness but if you start to get more in tune to like there's this thing that when I get crazy pulls me back and says let's not do this or says don't have that extra drink or says get up and dance or says put down the work and go hang out outside or don't be so hard on yourself we don't have to listen to everyone else's programs and ten step things and this and that in order to find our way back to love it's just tuning into this common sense part that's gonna tell you relax and if for some reason there is something you need to do like go see a healer do an energy healing common sense will say and common sense comes from a calm place it'll say go see a healer there's nothing on it your mind will go I need to weigh the options it costs this much barber ever ever ever brah you know so just know you guys that you have this is it similar to trusting your gut yes but it's even more simple than that I yes it is similar to trusting your gut it is similar to trusting your gut but common sense is just it is it's what we all think of it to be it's an obvious duh feeling and what I what I ask you guys to do is you you have to and like I said this is like what this is so simple no one told me you have to experience it and experiment on your own and and just kind of it's it's a formless energy inside of you and you got to kind of look within and it's this quiet little voice that sneaks in the background it'll say don't do that do that stop and it's an obviousness and the crazy part is you'll see it in other people so even if we and and and it and it it works at whatever level of consciousness you're at so if you're this enlightened person you'll get common sense if you're if you're a murderer you'll get common sense right that that's maybe not the best example for a new experience of this and a new conversation of this but it works at whatever level and then again you guys not everybody listens to it which is why we have all this crap that we have but for me who grew up identifying so much with fear and insecurity you don't realize you have a teacher inside of you that teaches discernment that says you don't have to fear is not going to help you common sense that says let's relax if the symptom gets worse we'll go to the doctor or this feeling of you're okay or this feeling of these people are your friends you know that's common sense so when we know we we when we know we have this safe place to rest in this thing that always has our back that will get us out of whatever kind of trouble that we're in and we start to get an ear for it we start to get a feel for it then what happens and you have to be patient with yourself but what happens is you naturally start to not need to pay so much respect to this because you're like well that's just old habitual neurological junk and this is a constant 100% reliable inner energy that has my and every human's back and you just got to start to look for it and play with it and you will be amazed to see let me see a couple of you have written some questions how do you discern between resistance of not wanting to do something versus inner voice that's a really good question it's the feel so maybe I should have said that common sense has a feel to it it's just a boop anything else resistance whatever it is has a feel to it and so we start to feel our way through and again resistance looks useful because we've thought our whole lives that it was doing something for us so of course we listen to it but then one day we get so sick of how we feel and how our lives have turned out that we go there must be another way and we start to go on this journey and search for truth which is what I've done I'm like this ain't right there's got to be something else out there and my teacher I highly recommend any Sydney Banks books Sid Banks he's an enlightened man that I study from has made it so simple and it's in this simplicity where we heal it's in the simplicity where we go oh my god I've had this in me all along and I'm even trying to over complicate it by calling it all these things don't worry about what it's called just this basic feeling of yes or no every moment that reels you back in when you're being however you're being you'll like feel this today see that your whole day is guided by this and again it's been so here that you've never seen this miracle that has your back that that will not let you fall and it's just aligning with it so that your life can open up from there it's really beautiful would you say that you're tuning into your spiritual self as opposed to your intellect yes exactly that's your spiritual self your common sense and your intellect is just your experience of being human it's lots of colors that you can have okay perfect so good I'm so glad you guys were writing and so this isn't totally just me talking to myself on a screen although I am talking to you guys okay so let's meditate on this let's have fun with this and then as always I'm gonna be around for five minutes afterwards to answer anybody's questions that might come up from this and if we don't have enough time after through this because sometimes it's so simple and obvious our mind wants to over complicate it and then we're left like what are you talking about I can see that you're excited but I still don't get it be patient stick with this and and it's in you so you will find it if you continue to look for it so go ahead you can put your music on and go ahead and close your eyes you can sit up or you can lay down whatever is comfortable for you and let's just get comfortable in our space all right good you guys so let's just take a couple deep breaths to start deep inhale and exhale letting everything go deep breath exhale breathing into the belly chest exhale and release good I want you guys to journey into this meditation letting spirituality be so ordinary and simple yes it's profound because it's the spirit so the spirit is elusive and we don't see it so it can seem not there and complicated and deep but I think the less that we give our mind a chance to over complicate this and the more universal and ordinary and literally oh my goodness available to every soul on the planet because it's in every soul on the planet it's like yes you and your mind yeah but not me it isn't conditional that's what unconditional love means common sense is unconditional so it doesn't matter what your body looks like what your life looks like what your past looks like it is always working to bring you back home to your center what is peaceful compassionate loving you are not here to suffer yes you have human experience yes there's things that are difficult but you're always meant to come back home and common sense will bring you back home so cool so open your mind to the simplicity and ease of today's conversation don't try to understand it your heart will hear the resonance in mind your mind will fight your mind will try to understand don't worry about understanding just settle into the feeling into the feeling of truth let your eyes soften softening the space right behind your eyes let your face soften just let that body settle into this moment letting yourself get really present present isn't some elusive far-out-there thing either it's just not caught up in this mess of your past or your future but just here clear-minded approaching what is right in front of you it's just reality as it is not reality through filters that's all that's all it is don't listen to the people that make this stuff difficult this is your birthright it's okay if it takes a little time to remember but it's not difficult or not for you so just let yourself settle in and rest let go of needing to try harder effort but that body soften a little bit more letting your belly undo itself letting your hips melt down into the ground let that whole body be soft and still and let yourself melt down into the cushion down into the ground just meet yourself right here your bottom on the ground Saturday afternoon with Jamie energetically with a whole beautiful group of people just breathing just this moment just giving yourself permission to unstick from the speedy mind what if I don't need that as much as I thought that I did what if that's just there because I thought that I needed it but when I realized there's another trustworthy source in me that's just gonna go it has no staying power when I realize I don't need it anymore my thinking will come but I won't need to grab on to it anymore you and so I just want you to let yourself settle a little bit deeper within see if you can allow yourself to muster up all the patience that you can there's no hurry there's nowhere to get to everything that you have is in you and everything that you want is in a formless space before the form so when we try to find these deeper spiritual energies out in the world they don't exist there they exist in here so see if you can let go of that feeling of trying to control and rearrange and manipulate and and just pull it in kid just reel it in let go of all of that that is where we're taught to look but I know exactly what you want it's what all of us want and it doesn't live out there so bring it from out there to in here let go of needing to understand this or figure this out or recreate something that you felt before settle a little bit deeper within nice and present just here with what is no particular way to feel or be in life I allow the ebbing and flowing of my thinking and my feelings to rise and fall I welcome them to move through this container that is me and I welcome them because I realize that there's simply an experience of humanity they're not who I am and so I become less afraid they still feel uncomfortable they still come but I know what they are energy not me just an experience that I can either lean into or lean away from creative spiritual play-doh that's it and my mind takes it and runs and makes a big story and then I believe it but I'm just kind of retracting my energy from that mess right now just feel myself energetically pulled away from the thoughts and the storms and the trying to find it out there and I sit myself down right now and I stopped the search just lovingly give up knowing that I cannot find it in my mind yeah trying so hard why you don't let go of meaning to do anything right now and see if you can just open your mind to experiment with me today and this week knowing that the rest of us will be experimenting as well you can always go back to how you were before that's fine what if there's something in me that no matter what life brings will give me the answer I need every single moment of my day and maybe I've just been so attuned to my thinking thinking that energy that isn't even stable or solid has my back I've misunderstood that that's experience and I didn't know that I had a safety net that's so simple and obvious I looked past it and so what if I could just let go of staring this mess in the face and I could kind of just lean in lean into this common sense inside of me every answer I need to every moment of my life that adjusts according to my life 100% reliable intelligence so we lean away from the fluctuations of energy in the mind and we lean towards common sense we settle into simplicity I want you to see if you can let go of this mental tight grip or fear or overwhelm or insecurity that many of us might feel knowing that within us we have wells of security obviousness,

Connection,

Peace,

Compassion,

Wisdom and when we have a visceral in our bones remembering of this place in us the other seems silly to be swept around in but until then we do our best and we follow our common sense back home so no matter where we are we are always held maybe not in the way the brain perceives but always held letting go of needing the mess one step further and just settling a little bit deeper within let yourself rest in this safety and security and peace inside of yourself not needing to feel those things just the birthplace of all that letting it be ordinary and simple not needing it to be profound like you just walked into a new room and you're kind of for a new house and you're just kind of having a little gentle look around inside not needing to do or change anything you have what you need you just get comfortable settling in there and as you find this place you need thinking less and less you you you you you you you you you you as you rest within the boundaries of your own inner life your own inner teacher that is different from every other inner teacher we can compare ourselves and our lives to others but we have our own unique common sense custom tailored to every moment so we just get used to listening and attuned to this simple voice that will tell us when we're using our thinking against ourselves and harming ourselves internally or others we can listen to this and let our lives completely open up from inside out this is our guide back home this is love this is you and if you want you can gently set the intention from your heart may I know this part of myself may this part this common sense and wisdom and intelligence that can bring me back home to what I want within I want to know that part maybe I'm having trouble seeing it or experiencing it my intention is to see it to see that it's safe to laugh when I find it how obvious it is but I want to have that visceral in my bones experience of this and I want to see the profundity in it and I want to share with others that wish to find it too and safe and simple and easy ways and so it is just let your awareness slowly start to make its way as always to that connection between your physical body and the cushion below or behind you noticing all of those tiny points of contact noticing the space that your body occupies in this space nice and present just with reality as it is not looking through lots of filters and screens of moments in time but right here right here through the eyes of understanding and truth that's an option to is an option to just let your awareness rest right behind your eyes settled and planted inside of your body all you need is willingness to see and you will find start to take a couple deep breaths into that low belly into the rib cage into the chest exhale letting everything go deep breath into the belly into the rib cage into the chest one more deep breath making your way back to some subtle physical movements fingers wrists toes ankles stretching or moving any parts of your body that wish to stretch or move whenever you feel ready you can open up your eyes to the afternoon
