Welcome to this mindful decluttering meditation for spaciousness and freedom.

Decluttering your home or workspace can often feel overwhelming,

But in truth,

It can be as peaceful as meditation and a way to practice living mindfully and being fully present in each passing moment.

Let's begin by cultivating awareness of the reasons behind clutter and how it relates to our past and our future.

Guide your awareness to your thoughts and emotions that arise when you think about clutter.

Notice if there's a tendency to hold on to things from the past or if there's any fear of something unknown in the future.

Clutter often represents emotional attachments to objects and the belief that we might need them someday.

Acknowledge these tendencies without judgment.

Now let's shift our focus to this present moment and explore the practice of letting go.

Start by guiding your awareness to one cluttered flat surface in your environment.

This might be a tabletop,

A countertop or any other area in your home or workspace.

It is ideal to choose a small space to begin with.

Gently clear this surface,

Removing all objects and placing them either on the floor or on another table.

As you do this,

Notice any sensations in your body and notice the sounds around you.

Feel the simplicity and spaciousness of this cleared surface.

Now let's take a moment to mindfully clean this surface,

Wiping it slowly and deliberately.

Pay attention to the sensations of your hands moving and the texture of any cleaning instrument that you're using to wipe or clean the surface.

Engage all your senses in this cleaning process.

When you are ready to come to a close,

Gently wrap up this cleaning process and now we'll guide your awareness to a single object from the pile of objects you've removed and placed either on the floor or on another table.

Focus solely on this single object and inquire why you're holding on to it.

Is it because of emotional attachment or belief that you might need it in future?

Reflect on whether you genuinely use this object or if it serves as a just-in-case item.

If you don't need or use this object or if the presence of this object doesn't bring you joy or pleasure,

Then place this object in a box for donation or discard it responsibly.

If it's something you genuinely use or enjoy,

Then set it aside to be put back on the now clean surface.

In cases where you're uncertain,

Place the object in a maybe box and store it away for three to six months,

Noting the date on your calendar.

Continue this process,

Mindfully examining each object one at a time without waffling or delaying choices.

Practice letting go and embracing the freedom that arises from releasing unnecessary possessions.

We'll continue this process for about 10 more minutes.

I'll keep track of the time for you.

Are you ready?

Let's begin.

You're welcome to continue for longer if you wish.

If you feel ready to allow this decluttering process to temporarily come to a close,

Then take a moment to pause.

Once you've gone through at least some,

If not all,

Of your objects,

You can start to slowly place the ones that you use or you enjoy back onto your clean surface.

You can assign a specific home for each item,

Ensuring that everything has its place.

If an object lacks a designated space or home,

Consider donating it as it signifies that you don't have space for it.

When you've wrapped up the entire process,

Take a moment to appreciate the newfound spaciousness and freedom in your environment.

Notice how the act of decluttering has cleared out not only physical space but also mental space inside of you.

Carry this spaciousness and mindfulness with you as you continue with the rest of your day,

Remembering that you can always return to this beautiful practice of decluttering,

Encouraging you to let go and live more fully in the present.
