A short prose poem about a slow exhale. A breathing pattern that encourages an extended slow exhalation can help activate our parasympathetic nervous system. Try breathing in through your nose, then slowly and softly extending your exhalation through your mouth as if blowing a feather. Try this for ten cycles of breath to help reduce stress, and tension and to help induce a calmer mind. This is a wonderful preparation for meditation. Music by Emriver

Take a deep breath.

Why do they always say that?

If there is something wrong,

Or you make a mistake,

And there's difficult words to say,

What do people say to you?

Take a deep breath.

But perhaps it isn't to take a deep breath that will help you now.

Rather,

It is breathe out slow,

Breathe out slow,

Which is what your weeping lungs need to hear.

When there is nothing left that can be done,

No more fear to be felt,

And no more words to be spoken,

Just breathe out slow,

As if waiting for the longest kiss from your departed lover's lips.

One,

Two,

Three,

Four.
