Welcome and thank you for joining me.

Hoponopono is a Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness.

The Hawaiian word translates into English simply as correction.

Similar forgiveness practices are performed on islands throughout the South Pacific including Hawaii,

Samoa,

Tahiti and New Zealand.

Traditional Hoponopono is practiced by indigenous Hawaiian healers often within the extended family by one family member.

Hoponopono is defined in the English dictionary as to put to rights,

To put in order or shape and mental cleansing.

Traditional practice of Hoponopono centres around the family and any wrongdoings which may need to be put right.

It originated when a member of the family became ill and there was a belief that the illness was caused by the stress of anger,

Guilt,

Recriminations and lack of forgiveness.

I'm sure many of us here are all too aware of the effect stress in all forms can have on our bodies and how it can manifest into illness and pain.

Traditional Hoponopono practice involves the whole family.

The belief was that each member had to work through the issue or problem using the process in order for harmony to be restored.

In more recent times it has been found that individuals can practice Hoponopono with wonderful results.

How does it work?

How can you heal yourself and have it heal others?

How can you even heal yourself?

Anyone familiar with the loving kindness practice will know that you must extend loving kindness to yourself before you can extend it to others.

Even to be happy and content in the company of others requires being happy and content with yourself first.

There are four simple steps to this method.

Repentance,

Forgiveness,

Gratitude and love.

I'm sorry,

Please forgive me,

Thank you,

I love you.

The order is not that important.

So let's begin.

Let's make ourselves comfortable in the chair with both feet flat on the ground and a nice straight comfortable spine.

You can close your eyes if you wish but if you feel sleepy at any point just gently open them and rest your gaze downwards.

Turn your focus to your breath.

Take a nice slow deep breath in and out.

Gently keep your focus on your breath.

Breathing in two three and breathing out two three.

Two three.

If you find your mind wandering,

As it will,

That's perfectly fine.

Just acknowledge whatever thoughts come and say to yourself,

I'll deal with that later on and gently come back to your breath.

Breathing in,

I allow my thoughts to come.

Breathing out,

I allow my thoughts to go.

Breathing in and breathing out.

Breathing in,

I am aware of all the goodness and kindness within me.

Breathing out,

I acknowledge all that goodness and kindness within me.

Breathing in,

I know that I am sometimes critical or harsh on myself.

Breathing out,

I release and let it go.

Keep breathing in and breathing out.

Keep breathing in and breathing out.

If you find your mind is wandering,

That's perfectly fine.

Just allow those thoughts to come and go and keep coming back to your breath.

Breathing in,

I know that I can worry about situations beyond my control.

Breathing out,

I release and let it go.

Breathing in,

I'm sorry.

Breathing out,

I forgive you.

Breathing in,

Thank you.

Breathing out,

I love you.

Breathing in,

I'm sorry.

Breathing out,

I forgive you.

Breathing in,

Thank you.

Breathing out,

I love you.

I'm sorry,

I forgive you.

Thank you,

Stay with the feelings that you have right now.

Feel the warmth,

Softness and warmth.

And comfort these words bring to you.

You deserve this.

Call to mind a person or event which you may have difficulty with.

Don't try to relive it or the feelings it resurrects.
