Hello and a very warm welcome.
Thank you for joining me for this guided meditation on grief and loss.
By choosing to listen to this guided meditation it is probable that you have experienced some form of loss and grief.
Let me begin by saying you are not alone.
You are not alone.
Despite it being a very lonely and isolating emotion it is one which all of us have or will experience in some form or another and in very different ways,
In different time frames and for different reasons.
Wherever you are on your journey of grief and loss,
However you're coping and whatever you're experiencing,
Acknowledge that this is the right way for you.
We are all unique individuals.
Your way to experience your grief and loss is the right way for you right now.
Let no one put a time frame on your grieving or curtail your thoughts or actions.
Your way to experience your grief and loss is the right way for you right now.
I mentioned that grief is a very lonely emotion but it is also a very powerful one.
It can hit you at any moment when you are least prepared and wash over you like a tsunami.
Grief gives you no warning.
Just like a tsunami these moments will have differing strengths.
Some will cause you to wobble,
Some will reduce you to tears,
Some will be caused by people,
Objects,
Events,
Memories.
Some moments of grief come from out of the blue for no reason at all.
But just like a tsunami these moments will pass and we need to learn to ride these waves instead of letting them engulf us.
While mindfulness encourages us to live in the present moment,
When grieving it is important to acknowledge that moment but allow it to pass.
It's much easier said than done.
Let's try it.
Settle yourself into a comfortable position.
Take three nice deep breaths in,
Breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in,
And breathing out.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Allow that warm soothing breath to flow into your lungs and around your body.
Feel your shoulders drop and relax.
Breathing in and breathing out.
By concentrating on your breath it gives your mind a focus point,
Allowing all your other thoughts to settle and your mind to rest.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in and breathing out.
If you find your mind is wandering that's perfectly okay.
Just acknowledge the thought and say I'll deal with that later on.
And gently come back to your breath.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in I feel the warm energy fill my body.
Breathing out I release any tension and pain I am holding in my body.
Breathing in I feel the warm energy fill my body.
Breathing out I release any tension and pain I am holding in my body.
Breathing in I acknowledge my grief and loss.
Breathing out I allow this moment to pass by.
Breathing in I acknowledge my grief and loss.
Breathing out I allow this moment to pass by.
If you find your mind is wandering let those thoughts come and go like the waves of the ocean.
Breathing in I acknowledge my grief and loss.
Breathing out I allow this moment to pass by.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in I feel the warm energy of my breath fill my whole body.
Breathing out I feel well.
Breathing in I feel the warm energy of my breath fill my whole body.
Breathing in I acknowledge my grief and loss.
Slowly and gently in your own time give your fingers and toes a little wiggle and slowly open your eyes.
Know that at any time when that wave of grief arrives you have the knowledge and ability to recognize it and allow it to pass by.
We're not trying to change it.
We're not trying to stop it.
It's a hugely important part of our lives now so we learn ways to integrate it into our lives mindfully.
I sincerely hope you found this helpful and I wish you well on your journey.

Highly disagree with people who says this needed music or sounds. Your voice is so deeply comforting, and being able to only hear you and focus on your words was so helpful for me. I loved this, thank you from someone who just lost their dad.

Excellent. Very helpful as I navigate the decline of a parent and its impact on my siblings. And, my own grief and loss!

Simple, clear exercise to use when it is hard. Science says that emotions last 90 seconds, if you don’t feed it. This helps do that.

Just to have someone acknowledge that grief appears intensely and unexpectedly was so comforting. Thank you for this simple meditation for riding those waves, not drowning in them.
