Welcome to this flow that will help you prepare for painless childbirth.
Now take a long,
Deep breath.
Look up as you fill up your lungs.
Now as you exhale,
Look gradually down,
Let your eyes close,
And allow your body to begin to relax.
Relax your body as much as you can.
Outside noises will not disturb you in any way.
In fact,
Any you hear will only help you to relax much more.
The only sound you allow yourself to be interested in is the sound of my voice.
And the sound of my voice helps you drift deeper and deeper relaxed.
Now,
Place your awareness on your eyelids and let them relax so deeply that they just won't work.
And when you know that they just won't work,
Hold on to that relaxation and give them a good test to make sure they just won't work.
Okay,
Good job.
Stop testing now.
Now take that relaxation you're allowing yourself to have in your eyes,
Move it up to the top of your head,
And let it flow down your body from the top of your head to the tip of your toes.
Great.
Now I'd like you to relax your body even more,
And here is how we'll do it.
In a moment,
I'll ask you to open and close your eyes.
When you close your eyes,
Just see if you can allow this physical part of you to relax much more.
Okay,
Open your eyes,
Close your eyes,
And allow your body to go much deeper relaxed.
Feel the relaxation flow through your entire body.
You're doing fine.
Now,
In a moment,
I'm going to have you open and close your eyes again.
And this time,
When you close your eyes once more,
Really let your body relax much deeper.
It's very easy to do and you can let it happen effortlessly.
Okay,
Open your eyes and close your eyes and really let go.
Let your whole body go loose and limp and lazy.
You're doing fine.
In a moment,
I'm going to have you open and close your eyes one more time.
And again,
This time,
When you close your eyes,
Really let go.
Really let your body go totally loose,
Calm,
And relax much more.
Okay,
Open your eyes and close your eyes and let your entire body relax even more.
You're doing great.
Now,
If you follow these simple instructions for physical relaxation,
We have all the relaxation we need.
But let's find out if you've done that.
In a moment,
I want you to imagine that I am lifting one of your fingers by its tip just a couple of inches.
And as you do so,
You can actually lift it.
If you followed my instructions,
When I tell you to lift it,
It will feel so heavy as if I was lifting a soaking wet dishrag or like a piece of lead or marble.
And when I tell you that I let it go,
You will let it drop down and that will be your signal to let your body relax even more.
Now,
When you lift,
It is important that you imagine that I am lifting it for you,
That I am doing all the work and when your finger drops down,
Relax much more.
Now,
I'm lifting your finger by the tip and I'm letting it go.
So let it drop down and relax even more.
Now,
We have all the physical relaxation we need,
But now I'd like you to relax your mind as well as you have relaxed your body.
When you relax your mind,
You can accept or reject any suggestions given to you.
If you choose to accept a suggestion,
You can positively change your life in any way you want.
Now,
Here's how you can have mental relaxation.
In a moment,
I'll ask you to begin slowly counting backwards out loud from a hundred.
This is the key to your mental relaxation because with every number you say,
Your mental relaxation deepens again.
With every number you say,
You just let your head relax even deeper than before.
Now,
If you do this and by the time you reach the number 98 or maybe even sooner,
You will be so relaxed that the rest of the numbers that come after 98 will simply disappear from your head.
There just won't be any more numbers.
You don't care whether they are numbers left or not,
They have become irrelevant for this moment.
Now,
You have to do this.
I can't do it for you.
Those numbers will leave or disappear if you will them away.
Now,
Start with the idea that you will make this happen and you can easily dispel them from your mind.
When they're gone,
You can give me a sign so that I know that your mind is completely relaxed.
Now,
Say the number 100 and deepen your mental relaxation.
Now,
Deepen your mental relaxation,
Let them already start to fade and go deeper and deeper relaxed.
Deepen your mental relaxation again,
Start to make them leave.
They'll go if you will them away,
Going even deeper.
Now,
They will be gone,
Dispel them,
Punish them,
Make it happen,
Have them disappear.
You can do it.
I can do it for you.
Push them out,
Make it happen.
Great.
In a moment,
I'm going to count from 10 to 1.
By 1,
Or before,
You are even deeper relaxed.
With every number I say,
You allow yourself to go deeper and deeper relaxed.

Up all the large and small muscles of your legs to your knees.
From your knees,
Now into your thighs.
From your thighs,
Into your hips.
From your hips,
Now into your abdomen.
With each breath you exhale,
Just let your body go deeper and deeper relaxed.
Just let it all go more and more.
Let that warm,
Wonderful feeling of relaxation flow up all the muscles of your back.
Let all the muscles of your back go loose and limp and lazy,
Just like a ragdoll.
Let this relaxation flow up into your shoulders.
Now,
Over your shoulders and down your arms to your elbows.
From your elbows to your wrists.
From your wrists into your hands,
Going out to the ends of your fingertips,
Guiding you deeper and deeper relaxed.
Just letting it all go more and more.
Let that warm,
Wonderful feeling of relaxation flow up all the muscles of your neck.
Let all the muscles of your neck go loose,
Limp and lazy.
Let this relaxation flow up into your head.
Now,
Over your head and down to your brow.
All the muscles of your eyes relaxed.
All the muscles of your cheeks relaxed.
All the muscles of your chin relaxed.
Now,
If your teeth are clenched,
Just unclench them now and let your jaw sog.
Just let it all go more and more,
Deeper and deeper relaxed.
Now,
I'm going to count from three down to one.
On each count,
Just let yourself drift deeper and deeper relaxed.
Three,
Going deeper and deeper.
Two,
Going deeper and deeper relaxed.
One,
So deep,
So comfortable,
So relaxed.
Just letting yourself go more and more.
Now that you were able to reach this state of deep relaxation,
I want you to know that it will be much easier for you to get here next time.
And it will become even easier the more you practice.
I would like you to feel this great feeling of relaxation.
And you should know that you can reach it anytime you need it,
Even without using this flow.
Remember how you got here by lifting and dropping your finger?
You can remember the very sensation you felt every time your finger was dropping,
To tell me that you were getting more and more relaxed each time.
That feeling is now anchored to the movement of your finger hitting the surface on which it is resting.
Every time it does,
It will feel like you're clicking the switch that turns the lights of your brain off.
This is why you will be able to reach this deep state of relaxation,
Even without using this flow,
Whenever you want to.
All you need to do is close your eyes and relax just how you did at the beginning of our session.
Then rest your hand on top of any surface and slightly lift your finger.
Prepare to fall into this deep state of relaxation while your finger is dropping.
And as soon as it touches the surface it is resting on,
Feel on how you instantly reach this deep state of relaxation in which you are right now.
The finger drops and the lights are off.
Now that you are in this very relaxed state,
I want to ask you a question.
How would you like to have your baby with an absolute minimum of discomfort?
Perhaps absolutely painlessly.
You know,
You can if you'll just follow these instructions.
Now,
It is in this state when you're physically and mentally relaxed that it is so easy to have a baby.
It's in this state that the contractions,
Instead of unpleasant,
Become very pleasant.
Let me tell you how that works.
The average mother-to-be has heard talks from friends,
Perhaps relatives,
That having babies is a horrible ordeal.
And so the expectant mother looks forward to what she has heard referred to as labor,
And labor pains,
And hard labor.
There is no such thing as labor,
Or labor pains,
Or hard labor.
There's no labor associated with the birth of a baby.
All those names are false names that keep a mother's attitude in exactly the wrong condition.
But we can change that attitude with the right attitude by having you know just what does happen when a baby is born.
Nature has a method of making the birth of your baby possible by contraction.
Each contraction you have helps you push the baby a little bit forward so that the baby can be born very easily.
Now you do have contractions.
Now you don't have labor.
You don't have labor pains,
And you don't have hard labor.
All you have are these contractions.
And the odd thing about the contractions is that if you look forward to them pleasantly and know that they are going to do something nice to happen,
You won't even feel the contractions,
But you'll only be aware of them in a pleasant way.
When you have the first contraction,
I want you to close your eyes,
Just as you have them closed now,
And relax completely,
Just as you are relaxed now.
And then the birth of that baby will be so easy for you.
One of the wonderful things it will do is to shorten the delivery period considerably.
It will shorten miraculously.
You'll be so delighted because with each contraction,
The contractions will get so pleasant.
About the third or fourth contraction you have,
You'll actually begin smiling as you have the contractions,
And you'll say,
I'm that much nearer to the birth of my baby.
Now that that contraction is over,
I'm that much closer to the birth of my baby.
With each contraction,
You'll have that thought,
And it will keep a smile on your face all the time,
And you'll feel so good all the time the baby is being delivered.
And then,
After the baby is delivered,
You'll see the baby instantly.
You'll see the baby the second it is born,
Because you'll be wide awake during the entire delivery.
Now,
Remember that this relaxation that you're having now is going to be used in addition to all the aids that medical science has been able to invent and conceive to make the birth of a baby easier for a mother.
So this is going to be a wonderful plus to everything else that you have to help make the birth of the baby easy.
Now,
After the baby is born,
You'll feel so good.
Why?
You'll be able to do what you need just a few minutes after the birth of the baby,
Because you'll be just as strong then as you are now.
Your strength will be complete.
Your feeling of well-being will be complete.
And you'll recover so much more quickly than you ordinarily would.
Then,
If you want to nurse your baby,
This relaxation will make it possible for you to nurse your baby so very,
Very easily.
You're doing great.
You can listen to this flow several times to practice getting to this beautiful relaxation state and to reiterate and reinforce all you have learned today.
The more you listen to it,
The more you will feel ready and happy and prepared for your motherhood.
You will also feel how it becomes easier and easier every time.
So you will be perfectly ready when you need it by simply lifting and dropping your finger as you just did before.
Learn how to relax at home so that when the baby comes,
You'll be all ready for it and feeling so wonderful on the day of delivery,
Feeling so wonderful during the delivery and after delivery.
And now that you're feeling so good,
Feeling so wonderful,
I'm going to bring you out of this relaxed state and just notice how that feeling of relaxation holds on and makes you say to yourself,
Motherhood is going to be a glorious adventure.
I'm going to love every minute of it.
And as you take three deep breaths,
You can start slowly open your eyes and feel wonderful.
