Lessons From Death: Guided Meditation
We spend our entire lives running from the concept of death. What would happen if we instead chose to lean directly into it? The answer to this question may just become our greatest source of liberation.
Transcript
Hello and welcome to this guided meditation where together we will explore death.
Now,
We spend our entire lives running from death.
We've built so much of our culture,
Particularly in the West,
On this avoidance of death.
But just like birth,
Death is a natural part of the cycle of life.
And what were to happen if we were to lean directly into it,
Exploring it and accepting it for what it is instead of choosing to run away?
Together,
Let's find out.
So find a comfortable position either seated,
Lying down,
Whatever feels good for you today,
Embrace that.
You want to be as comfortable,
As relaxed as possible.
So really find a way for you to come into your body with your position.
And when you feel that you found a comfortable spot,
You're feeling good,
I invite you to gently close your eyes.
You can trust in closing your eyes here and just bring awareness to your breath.
Allow the breath to be natural.
There's no need to alter or change whatever your breath is naturally doing in this moment.
Just simply notice the inhalations,
The exhalations,
And the sensations that may bring.
As we continue to focus on the breath,
Allow it to naturally deepen.
Again,
This is not something you need to force,
But just as you begin to further relax your body,
The breath begins to naturally deepen.
So feel the cool air enter on your inhalation and allow yourself to let go.
Feel that warmth of the exhale as the breath continues to naturally deepen and we explore into going into our bodies here.
Now,
As you continue to breathe,
I want you to breathe as if you're breathing directly into your heart center.
Now,
What does this mean?
Bring your awareness,
Bring your focus directly into your heart.
And what we're going to do first today is truly ground into this space of purity,
Truth,
And unconditional love.
Our heart is the center for love.
It is the center for who we are on the deepest level.
Truly breathe into your heart here and feel the sense of love that is already within you.
As we go through this practice,
There is nothing that you need to fear.
There's nothing that you need to run from.
We are going to stay grounded in the awareness of our heart space as we explore the concept of death because it's love that becomes our ultimate teacher in death.
It's what we experience in our heart that makes death so profound.
So bring your awareness,
Continue to deepen it into your heart space and just feel a purity,
A radiance beginning to wash over your body in this moment.
What does it feel like to feel truly whole and complete from your heart center?
Just embrace that because you are that.
There's nothing you need to do.
There's nothing you need to achieve that proves your worth for love.
You don't need to prove that you are enough.
Just the fact that you have this gift of life that your heart continues to be.
You are worthy.
You are here,
The greatest gift of all,
And you are able to love and express that love in magical forms.
So as we generate this heart centered awareness,
I want you to visualize the scene of what it would be like and what your birth was like,
How it took place.
Imagine you are exiting the mother's womb for the very first time.
You know,
As you go through the birth canal and it may feel as though the walls of comfort are closing in around you and you move towards the light.
You know,
It's the only option.
The only escape from the walls closing in.
Allow yourself to move towards this light as you enter into this world.
Maybe you were kicking,
Screaming,
Maybe you were afraid,
But as you were born and you enter into this world and it is a vast array of new and you're seeing and experiencing and feeling sensations that you have never yet experienced as a newborn.
Imagine now you are placed into your mother's arms for the very first time.
Just feel that loving,
Warm embrace,
That true nurture.
As you are entering into this world,
You are greeted with such a radiance of unconditional love.
Allow yourself to feel that love and nurturing.
Allow yourself to truly,
Truly sink into the warmth of that unconditional love in this moment.
We celebrate your birth,
Your life as you were born because there is such a reverence.
There is such a beauty to this gift of life,
To this birth process that we intuitively recognize.
Truly feel that warmth,
That celebration,
That reverence for you and that unconditional love that was given to you at birth.
You know,
Many of us grew up feeling as though we didn't experience unconditional love at home or,
You know,
We had childhoods where we weren't fully nurtured.
In the moment of birth,
Oftentimes that might be one of the only moments where we get to experience that unconditional love,
To be held in the arms of the mother or the father for the very first time.
There is a radiance and purity to that.
We entered into this world to unconditional love.
Now,
What if we can apply that to how we leave,
To death?
I want you to bring into your heart again,
We're staying grounded to the heart at any moment and then feeling a bit overwhelmed or the mind is feeling occupied.
Continue to come back to the breath,
Breathing into your heart,
Cultivating this sense of deeper love and a deeper embracing for love,
Life and death itself with each inhalation and exhalation.
As you breathe,
I want you to bring into your heart somebody in your life who has passed on.
And you don't need to overthink this,
Just the first person who comes in naturally.
Just bring them into your heart center now and allow yourself to truly feel their presence.
It feels as if they are here as you do this practice because they are.
So truly open up your heart to them in this moment and in the same way that you were welcomed with unconditional love,
Extend that unconditional love to the person who has passed on and is here visiting you now.
What does it feel like to be reunited from this space of unconditional love?
Just truly open yourself to that in this moment.
As you embrace this warmth,
This radiance,
Allow yourself to sit in their presence and ask them whatever questions may come to mind,
Particularly about death and life itself.
What has death taught them about the nature of life?
Is death safe?
Do we need to spend our lives running away from it?
With the knowing of death,
How do we live more fully in love and in presence?
Allow the wisdom that your loved one has gained from death experience to be passed on to you now and to truly hear and open yourself to the mystery that they have experienced.
Allow their energy,
Their words,
Whatever sensations you may be feeling,
Allow that to immerse and flow throughout your body and integrate this experience and ultimately accept the beauties of being reunited through love here again.
What this experience may be showing you is that even in death,
Love does not die.
Even in death,
Does life truly end or is it a transformation as they are here with you now?
Death certainly shatters our heart.
We mourn and we grieve and we have to truly sit in the emotions that come with it,
But it breaks our heart only to be rebuilt to a greater capacity and love that we are capable of experiencing.
As your loved one is still here,
Allow yourself to feel such an overwhelming feeling of love and radiance that you can share with them in this moment unlike anything you may have experienced during life where we are so often clouded with judgments or ideas or conditions or stories.
We don't always get that opportunity to simply bask in unconditional love.
Allow yourself to go beyond the mind and the stories and sit here in love with them now and just open your heart to that possibility.
Take a few moments here.
Continue to breathe into this love.
If you find yourself wandering or fearful,
Just come back into your heart,
Into love,
Into who you are and allow yourself now to have one last embrace with them here in this moment.
Know that your loved one is always there for you.
Your ancestors are always with you and how you access them is through the space of your heart first.
It's through the love that you cultivated in life and share with them.
That love is eternal.
In death it does not die,
It simply transforms.
So often we are afraid to go into the grieving or the mourning process and we repress.
We run away from death but in doing so we run away from a deeper love that we've always known is possible.
Allow yourself one last embrace here and like I said,
Do not feel this is the last time you'll see them.
They will be back in any moment that you call them in and understand and trust in that knowing.
As they leave you're feeling a warm,
Loving energy radiating throughout your body for the lessons and the integration that they have brought and just continue to come back into your body here.
Breathe deeply into the heart.
Feel the cool air enter on the inhalation and the surrender into love as we exhale.
Just continue to focus on the breath and as we do now I want you to visualize and enter in to your own death moment.
How do you picture death being for you?
What would you like to be surrounded with?
Who would you like to be present?
What feelings and energy would you personally want to tap into in the moment of death?
Maybe you're surrounded by friends and family and you're sharing embraces with all of the beautiful people in your life.
Maybe you feel the calls of your ancestors,
The loved ones who have already moved on.
Maybe all that you want in this moment of death is what you experienced at the moment of birth,
What you experienced with your loved one just a moment ago and that's that feeling of love and it's unconditional form.
In our moment of death,
Fear will not serve us.
Running away from the reality will not serve us.
Can you choose to open your heart to the death process now?
Can you choose to bring love,
Acceptance,
Gratitude for yourself and those around you who may be in this moment with you?
Don't enter this space from a place of regret or fear.
There's no need to look back on life in this moment that we are visualizing and feel as if you've lived with regret.
That's not the energy of love.
Just in this moment,
Know you lived exactly how you were meant to live.
You loved exactly how you were meant to love.
You opened up your heart throughout life and you took risks.
You experienced heartache.
You experienced challenge but throughout life,
You always did your best.
Throughout life,
You were always there for the people who mattered most and throughout life,
You gained a deeper understanding on who you are and you're able to now let go.
You're able to now be there as an ancestor for those who have come after you.
In the moment of your death,
There will be no clinging attachment to life.
You will surrender into the unconditional love and light.
Just as you were born,
As you move towards the light,
Your spirit is now free to fly again.
In the moments of death,
What do you find?
What is there to experience?
Is it truly an end or a new beginning?
Just allow your heart,
The unconditional love that we have generated here,
Allow it to answer those questions.
Allow it to remove any fear about death that may be present.
You have a deeper knowing in what this is and what death is and because you have a deeper knowing about death,
It allows you to live your life in a much more present,
Grounded,
And ultimately magical way.
Now,
I invite you to begin to come back into your body.
Just notice the inhalations,
The exhalations,
Whatever sensations you may be feeling,
Whatever emotions you may be feeling and allow yourself to feel them.
Don't run away from them.
Just be present without judgment.
Whatever it is that you may be feeling throughout your body,
Gently begin to wiggle your fingers,
Toes,
Some slight movement,
Whatever feels good,
Whatever feels natural to help you come back into the body and come back into life.
Now,
When you're ready,
With your heart open,
With a sense of magic and miraculousness for the gift of life,
I want you to open your eyes and just be present and see the sacred beauty that is all around you as you return home here with yourself.
Allow this practice to serve you in whatever way is needed.
There is never a right or wrong way to meditate and whatever you experienced in this is exactly what was meant for you in this moment.
You can return to this practice as often as you would like and continue to explore the infinite possibilities that live within death.
I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day filled with light,
Love,
And an actualization in tapping into that magic and I'll see you all later.
So long.
