Discernment is the ability to obtain sharp perceptions or to judge with the ability to make sensible conclusions. Within judgment, discernment involves going past the mere perception of something and making subtle judgments but instead applying principles that help us decide between truth and error, right and wrong. In the biblical context, it helps us live a life that is not built on lack of accountability or false teachings.

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the Christ Field Series number two on Discernment by me,

The Mindful Dr.

E.

This meditation is on Discernment.

Discernment is the ability to obtain really good perceptions or to judge with the ability to make sensible conclusions.

In judgment,

Discernment involves going past perception and making subtle judgments but instead applying principles that help us decide between truth and error and right and wrong.

In the biblical context,

It helps us live a life that is not built on lack of accountability or false teachings.

So let's start by getting into a comfortable position and just breathing.

Breathing in the breath of life into the nostrils and out through the mouth.

Not sure where you've come from today but in case you're in any stressful or anxious situation these breaths will help calm you down.

Breathing in through the nose and exhaling through the mouth.

Nice breaths.

Let's start by settling into a comfortable position,

Allowing our eyes to close or you can just gaze them and soften them looking down to the ground.

If you're lying down you can just close your eyes right where you are,

Wherever you are in any comfortable state.

Just being.

Continue to take those long deep breaths,

Fully breathing in and fully exhaling.

Just enjoying those breaths into the nose and out through the mouth.

Bringing the awareness to any difficulty in our breathing,

Anything that doesn't feel normal without judgment but just bringing the attention to that and focusing on letting those breaths release any anxiety you're feeling.

As you breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth you're just going to settle into just normal breathing now.

Letting those deep breaths turn into normal breathing,

Your normal rhythm.

Align your breath to find this rhythm that's uniquely yours,

Given to you by Christ.

Bring your full attention to noticing your breath as it enters your nostrils,

Travels down to your lungs and then causes your belly to expand.

These diaphragmatic breaths are really important in breathing as they really expand our lungs and let us reach our full capacity in our breaths.

Take notes of each out breath as your belly contracts and the air moves through the lungs and each in breath.

Invite your full attention to the flow of your breath,

Just enjoying the ability to breathe in and exhale.

Noticing any cool air that may enter your nose and noticing that that may be warm as you exhale.

Just enjoying your breaths.

Thankful for those.

Thankful for it.

Let's turn our attention to our topic of discernment and the importance of judgment when we talk about it.

As you know all good spiritual teachings speak about judgment and why it's important not to judge others or ourselves.

Romans 2,

1 says,

You therefore have no excuses,

You who pass judgment on someone else.

For at whatever point you judge another,

You are condemning yourself,

Because you who pass judgment do the same things.

This scripture confirms that it's not,

It's hard to not condemn,

But it's hard to do this because we're guilty of the same things.

Sometimes we don't realize it.

Sometimes it's done unconsciously,

But through God's teaching we can change how we judge and behave in this area.

So just think as you're taking these deep breaths and how the Lord gives us the opportunity to change,

To not judge through His teaching.

Sometimes we do this unconsciously,

But we now know that our behavior in this arena can change and through this change let's meditate on how these new experiences make us feel.

The new experiences of meeting someone for the first time without judgment.

The new experience in not judging ourselves or our faults or lack of abilities.

Now let's think about the quality relationships that you will meet based on this new behavior of being non-judgmental.

Think of the happiness you experience in the greater walk with Christ.

How does that make you feel right now?

The happiness you're feeling letting go of all judgmental acts concerning yourself and others.

Take a moment to just think on that.

Let's bring our attention to another scripture given to us and that's 2 Peter 1.

3 which says,

God has granted us everything pertaining to life and goodness through the true knowledge of Him who called us His own glory and excellence.

God called us His own glory and excellence and He granted everything pertaining to life and goodness to us.

How does that make you feel knowing that God's Word provides us with all the things we need in every issue of life?

Imagine going through the day knowing that all of your questions and behaviors and how you should act has already been decided and you know what to do.

How does that make you feel knowing that Christ is there and all you need to know what to do is His Word?

Now take a few minutes to think on some of the behaviors that you might want to focus on to increase discernment.

This discernment that God has given you.

I would like to read three affirmations on discernment that I'd like you to repeat silently to yourself and reflect on these behavior changes and how they'll feel in your life.

Number one,

My biblical discernment has given me the ability to think biblically about all areas of my life.

Number two,

My biblical discernment has given me sharp perception so that I am able to judge only in the biblical sense.

Number three,

My biblical discernment has given me the ability to seize the gift of discernment that God provided me for His precious truth.

So think on those three affirmations,

My biblical discernment has given me the ability to think biblically about all areas of my life.

My biblical discernment has given me sharp perception so that I'm able to judge only in the biblical sense and my biblical discernment has given me the ability to seize the gift of discernment that God provided me for His precious truth.

Take these affirmations into your heart and set your intention to use and practice these throughout your day.

These will help cultivate and strengthen the gift of discernment that God has given you.

When you're ready,

Open your eyes,

Now focused on the beautiful gift of discernment that is uniquely yours through Jesus Christ.
