Hello everyone,
My name is the Mindful Dr.
E and welcome to Christ-filled series number 3 on emotion.
This meditation is on emotion and emotion is defined as a strong feeling derived from one's circumstance,
Mood,
Or relationship with others.
Emotion is also tied to every thought,
Perception,
And expression of human life and it rises and falls like the flow of tides.
In this meditation we will focus on what God says about feelings and managing emotions.
So let's start by settling down in a comfortable position,
Allowing our eyes to close shut or keep them open with a softened gaze looking down.
As you're getting comfortable in the chair,
Let's begin by taking some slow breaths,
Just a normal breathing,
Fully inhaling and exhaling each breath in and out.
Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth,
Just allowing your normal breaths to take place in its own natural rhythm.
If you're feeling any type of difficulty in breathing,
Just imagine how that feels and work toward taking some deep diaphragmatic breaths,
That's breathing in your belly,
To release any stress or anxiety that you may be feeling.
Encouraging yourself to settle down and enjoy the moment,
The special time that you have set aside for you and only you to experience and learn more about God and how He can help you through some of the emotions,
Good or bad,
That you may be feeling.
As you take a few more deep breaths into the nose and then out the mouth,
Notice how your belly contracts and the movement of air in and out of your lungs,
Through your nostrils or mouth.
Invite your full attention to the flow of each breath,
Noticing any cool air that enters your nose or warm air as you exhale,
Just really bringing awareness to the breaths,
The wonderful breath of life that God has given you.
Now at this time you may be breathing differently,
Take notice of that.
Bringing yourself back to your normal breathing,
Acknowledging and noticing how you're feeling.
Are your breaths calmer now,
More relaxed?
Are you settling more into the chair,
Relaxing your legs and arms?
We're going to start by doing an emotional body scan to just know how we're feeling from head to toe.
Starting with the top and the crown of our head,
Notice any emotion you may be feeling or thinking with your brain,
Letting the breath take that emotional flow,
If negative,
Out through that nostrils,
Out and releasing it and allowing fresh breath to come in,
Clearing the mind of all the clutter that it may be feeling.
Bringing your way down to the heart center,
Just noticing any heaviness you may be experiencing in your heart,
In front of emotion that you might have experienced before you've gotten here or through the week.
It was a good emotion.
Think about how that feels,
How it calms your heart,
How it makes you smile.
Imagine if you haven't experienced a good emotion,
Imagine one that happened today,
This week.
Or if you can't think of things that happened in the present,
Think of something that may have happened in the past.
Just acknowledging and noticing without judgment.
Now also,
If you have experienced a negative emotion,
Think about taking some of those diaphragmatic deep breaths and blow that negative emotion out.
Noticing it,
But just letting it go,
Releasing it,
Bringing in the thoughts of the breath and how wonderful it feels to breathe the breath of life normally without stress.
Also notice how the thought and the good emotion differentiates and may feel different.
Take some time to acknowledge and feel both those emotions.
I'd like you to turn your attention to the thought of emotions,
Taking our attention away from our heart and our brain,
Moving our emotion down to our gut.
This is where a lot of our stress occurs,
In the gut.
Imagine how through the breathing that we're experiencing,
These emotions that are negative have left and the positive emotions that you're feeling have healed the gut and made you feel better.
Now let's shift our attention to how God handles or helps us handle emotions and what he says about expressing them.
Psalm 34 17 says,
The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them.
He delivers them from all troubles.
This scripture confirms that although emotions won't go away,
You can learn to manage them because God hears your cries for help.
Imagine how it feels knowing that you can rely on God to listen and hear all of your emotions throughout your entire body.
He can hear the emotions of your heart,
Your mind,
Your stomach,
And he hears them with welcome arms.
Take a moment to imagine how it feels to know that you can rely on him to take those emotions.
Imagine the relief in knowing that those emotions that are burdening you are gone,
Taken away right here and now.
And just imagine how that feels.
Take a moment to really feel the emotion being lifted and the burden being carried away.
John 15 4 says,
Remain in me as I also remain in you.
No branch can bear fruit by itself and must remain in the vine.
Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
This scripture instructs us on how to manage emotions by asking us to remain in him so that he can remain in us.
Wow,
What a wonderful experience,
Right?
This means that one,
We are never alone in any emotion we're feeling and two,
That we can bear good fruit from the emotion if we trust in him.
This means that we can possibly react differently to things that invoke us or maybe shift a bad emotion to a positive one through Christ.
How does it make you feel knowing that in us,
Keeping God in us throughout any emotion will bear good results?
Take a few moments to think on this and how wonderful it feels in knowing that Christ is with us through every emotion and he can change the outcome toward positivity.
Now let's shift to thinking on letting God inside of us and how affirmations on emotions will help us manage this.
I'd like you to listen to the affirmations and then repeat them in silence to yourself and reflect on each.
The first one,
Affirmation one,
I will be anxious for nothing because God cares for me.
Affirmation two,
I will speak to God knowing that he hears me and delivers me from all troubles.
And affirmation three,
I am never alone as long as I keep with me God throughout my emotions.
Take a moment to pause on those three emotions,
Particularly the one that resonates with you,
The one that you need to experience more in your life and reflect on a behavior change that might let these emotions and these affirmations happen.
It's now time to set your intention,
Christ-filled intention from this practice and that intention is to throughout any emotion you experience,
Think about God being in you,
With you through that experience and how by having him in you,
You've already managed the emotion positively.
Also imagine taking one of these affirmations and using those to renew yourself throughout the day.
This renewal will help you accept,
Manage and satisfy positively any emotion through Jesus Christ.
Taking a couple more breaths,
Normal breaths through the nose and out of the mouth,
Knowing that these breaths are also calming those emotions because God is the breath of life and his scriptures flow in and out of you like the air,
Knowing that during this meditation you have brought him in and are keeping him in to help manage and take care of you through any emotion that you may experience.
When you're ready and only when you're ready,
Open your eyes with a new renewed focus on Christ inwardly and managing your emotions positively.
