Dr. Ehssan Sakhaee delivers a thought-provoking talk on the power of recognizing our delusions and embracing uncertainty. He emphasizes that our mental models are often mistaken for truth, leading to a lack of awareness and humility. By understanding that we are all equally deluded in different ways, we can cultivate compassion, love, and freedom from our limiting beliefs. Dr. Sakhaee encourages the practice of spacious awareness, which allows us to transcend our thoughts and perspectives, leading to inner transformation and a deeper connection with others and the world.

A lot of times we mistake our mental models,

What we generate in our heads of other people,

Of ourselves,

Of life,

Of reality,

All these mental models,

We mistake it for truth and then we become very deluded.

We then are not aware of this delusion.

Now we can break up this cycle of course by recognizing that pretty much 99% of the time we're all deluded and that's okay.

I mean the danger is not being aware of this delusion or this state of delusion or claim that we're less deluded than other people.

These are both dangerous.

You might for instance recognize the delusion of others but not aware that you yourself,

Me myself,

All of us are actually equally deluded in different ways and that's the danger.

The recognition of delusion in ourselves and others gives us access to humility,

Compassion,

Love,

Freedom,

Freedom from being stuck in the mental models in our heads.

We can step outside our thinking,

Our beliefs,

Our perspectives and recognize that it's pretty much everything we think of is an opinion,

A perspective and not truth or reality itself.

It's very discomforting for many when they recognize that because most of us want certainty.

We want to know that we know what is truth,

What is reality and the discomfort that arises that we actually don't,

It can be quite uncomfortable to sit in the realm of uncertainty about our beliefs,

Our views,

Our perspectives,

Our opinions.

To recognize everything we think is an opinion,

A perspective at first may be discomforting and then when you embrace that as well the discomfort is when you begin to gain access to freedom,

To a sense of peace,

To a sense of joy that arises from recognition,

Awareness and embrace of uncertainty.

And so new paradigms,

New chapters begin to open and unfold in life.

It's almost the first phase of transformation,

Inner transformation when one realizes that all these mental models,

Thoughts,

Beliefs about self,

Others,

The world,

Past,

Present and future,

Memories,

Imaginations,

All of that is secondary to the realization that they are secondary.

Let me repeat that.

Everything that you think,

All your opinions,

Your beliefs,

Your memories,

Your imaginations,

Your interpretations become secondary to the realization that they're all opinions.

The recognition,

The awareness,

The realization becomes primal and every single thought that crosses your mind from now on becomes secondary.

You have become larger than your thoughts.

You have become larger than your beliefs,

Your thinking,

Your interpretation that takes place almost every moment of your life.

You have become a larger container.

At that moment,

All you've got to do is keep remembering that,

Keep returning to that.

Because if you don't recognize that or continuously recognize and become aware,

Then you fall back to the old patterns of mind identification and thinking that your beliefs,

Your mental models are truth.

You mistake them for the truth.

To sit in that discomfort of uncertainty and spacious awareness will lead to a sense of deep peace.

But initially,

You need to embrace your delusion,

The fact that everything you think is just a perspective and not the whole truth,

Just a perspective.

But once you become that larger container that contains your mind,

You gain access to not just a sense of freedom and peace,

But also love itself.

This sense of love that arises that can embrace yourself and others for the state of delusion that we all find ourselves in.

And the mind becomes secondary.

This is a very beautiful experience.

Many who are stuck in mental forms and paradigms are not fully able to access this immediately because there is a deep attachment to their mental models that they've developed in their heads.

Do not be frustrated with those who cannot let go of their mental models because it may take a very long time for them to recognize what we're talking about here.

In fact,

It may take several lifetimes before a person realizes,

Recognizes their delusion.

They might even intellectually say,

Oh yeah,

Well,

I,

You know,

Sometimes I make mistakes or I might be wrong about things.

But that still happens at a kind of a intellectual level or at a temporary level rather than recognizing that the delusion is essentially constant.

Every time we believe our thoughts,

We enter that delusion again.

And so when you become that spacious awareness of your thinking,

Of your intellect,

Then you give yourself this space to be just awareness,

Awareness itself,

A consciousness.

As more and more people enter this space,

Something happens.

There is a shift in society when we all recognize that that consciousness is closer to reality than the thoughts.

And inherently that consciousness,

That pure awareness is pretty much exactly the same.

Whether it's you or your partner or your family or your friends or your strangers,

People in your society or other societies,

But also nature,

Animals,

Plants,

And the rudimentary awareness that all of life has from the vegetation level to the animal kingdom to humans and even inanimate objects.

There's a sense of presence in everything.

Pure consciousness.

And you are becoming one with that because you're letting go of the mental models.

That is when a sense of oneness and love,

A deep sense of interconnectedness with all of life arises.

And you rest in that peace which comes from the infinite that cannot be conceived or understood by the mind itself,

But it can be felt at the depth of your being because it's your true nature.

Before you even had a mind,

Before you even had labels and mental models,

You were there.

You existed.

And you're returning to that pure essence,

Your pure identity beyond labels and beyond mental models.

Let yourself rest in that peace.

Rest in that notion,

That realization.
